Just got her today...natural finish.I also own a Gibson hummingbird and a martin D-16.Here is my take on this guitar.1st it really bugs me that people buy this type of guitar and start trying to compare to the over-priced brands.First thing i did was set the action and replace the strings with martin silk and steel and what you have is a very sweet sounding auditorium size guitar.Thats not meant to compare with the big Dreads buy gibson and martin. If thats what you really want to hear you are just going to have to shell out the big bucks and buy one and stop slamming these guitars.I plugged my dean into a roland ac-60 and the sound was very pleasing and clean. You can take my martin and plug into a cheap amp or P.A and it will sound hollow..You just have to know how to make everything blend. When im alone playing i would be just as happy to play the dean as well as my gibson but if im going to jam with a band i want the gibson or martin i would not expect the dean to perform in that situation. You just buy any guitar based on what you are going to use it for.And it took me some time myself to realize that too. There are some pretty good guitars coming from china and indonesia these days with decent sound and craftsmanship is pretty darn good these days.As players we have alot more choices these days..Enjoy what you have or spend more money..You will not get times the sound for times the money..belive me i have tried.

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar seven years ago as my very first guitar. Out of the box it is a little shaky. I would reccomend getting the action adjusted. I did a year or so after purchasing and it did wonders for the playability. Its sounds decent with a good set of strings. It projects very well with good volume and a warm tone. All in all for a first guitar to learn on its a great instrument. I would reccomend for an entry level instrument.

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Purchased this to improve playing ability and frequency of playing seeing how ya can just bring it anywhere ya want to... Opened up the box and was immediatly impressed with this guitar. Most likely not a live stage instrument unless in the proper hands, however and extremely excellent practice and learning tool I would recommend to anyone at this price.. I have played others around this price range and this one is TOPS..

EPIC Acoustic Axe!

By Paul Lowery

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is all I expected of it and more. I ordered mine online in the blue sunburst finish and when I got it I couldn't believe my eyes. It comes with a LOT of premium features for an UNBELIEVABLY low price. High quality finish, multi-ply binding, an abalone rosette, and MORE. I got mine to replace my Ovation Celebrity, and I know what you're thinking...."Buying a Dean to replace an Ovation! Idiot." Well.....I love this Dean more than I ever loved my Ovation but that's just me. One thing I noticed is it didn't come with the tuner/preamp shown in the picture, it came with a BETTER one a Dean i2Nr preamp w/ built-in tuner and let me tell you it is EPIC! Now for the sound, unplugged this axe has a full, rich, raw acoustic sound but plugged in to my Marshall, this thing comes ALIVE!!!! No other guitar in my collection can out match it! Overall, if you like Deans and you want an affordable, good sounding, acoustic axe.....BUY THIS GUITAR!!!!!!

      • pick it up anytime and play it without an amp

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First off, I have nine guitars including a real cheap Emilio Esteban acoustic that you can't kill. It stays out in the garage or in my car when I travel. It has and NEEDS NO TRUSS ROD. It's in tune all the time and was free from a friend. I can't play a Martin or a Taylor because their necks are too fat. The cost and the name don't mean squat although I do own two "gotta-haves" that cost over 3,500.00 each. I also own two customs that I had built from 2-page specifications. I hand picked everything from the nut to the strap locks.

The bottom line is this (with any guitar): If you are comfortable playing it, like the sound and you bond, it's a great guitar.

In my case, I went to one of the local small guitar stores because a friend of mine said I should try two different acoustics guitars there (knowing I have a small hand). Needless to say I picked the Dean Acoustic Performer E. I don't play it out, but I use it at home when I'm just sitting around, writing music, and playing to the radio or my i-Pad to add / learn a cover song. I don't plug it in much - you don't need to. Our band actually had an acoustic practice once. It's an acoustic! It has a full bodied sound. I keep new strings on it and oil the fret board when I change the strings. If my parents would have bought this for me when I was 8, or 12, I would have stayed with guitar lessons, and not waited until I was 14, when I bought my first electric, to go back to lessons. This is a nice guitar and the price doesn't hurt you either. Every guitar has it's own sound, some good some not so good. This is a good guitar to own. It's been in my arsenal for six (6 years now.

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

So yeah, i read all these peoples comments on, don't get this guitar, get a Taylor or Martin. Well if people had the money for it, they would. I'm a FIRM believer in this guitar. I have had it going on 4 years now. Yes it goes out of tune easily, but that's about it. This playability and the sound quality for something so cheap is SOOOO worth it. I'm a VERY active musician, I'm a worship leader. My nest guitar is going to be the Breedlove Pro Series C25/CR Herringbone Acoustic-Electric. BIG jump up from this guitar, BUT you get what you pay for. And for this price, I honestly don't think you can beat it.

I just got mine and I'm very pleased. Natural finish looks great. I got it for a Song. I'm not affraid to buy one that's been returned. If your affraid of working on one don't buy any returned equipment. MM has always been great to deal with. This Baby Rocks! I'm starting to look at a 12-string Dean to add to my group of 5 guitars. This one is a keeper.

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar in "used" condition but it appears to be in new condition from Musicians Friend. This is the first Dean guitar that I've played or owned. I own an Epiphone Masterbilt and an Ibanez AES10ETBS. The sound is very good. Not as good as my Masterbilt but probably a little better than my Ibanez. The action was very high when I received it. Not a bad choice for a first acoustic guitar or (like me) someone who wants one of each!!!

Don't expect a Martin or Taylor

      By John

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Very pretty guitar! hadn't been SETUP when purchased, had to adjust to get lower action as it had very HIGH action when I got it. Not impressed. Also, the strings mine had were Diadderio, Medium I think. Made for nasty pain when first tried to play. I have put Martin SP phosper bronze Light strings and adjusted the action, plays pretty well now. It does what I wanted, to have an acoustic stage guitar that retained the acoustic sound when amplified internally. HOWEVER, it will never replace my Martin! I have a love affair with it :) Finally, would I recommend it? Yes, with this condition! Know you will have to set it up before you really use it. The Electronics on it are very good

I have two and they both stink!

      By 4Music

      from Reno, Nv

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My wife and I got one each as a wedding present, we love the look of them and how they sound unplugged. To our disapointment plugged in they sound hollow and tinny no matter how we adjusted the EQ. Also both of our tuners don't match with a standard pitch which is really frustrating when your playing with a band. My wife's guitar now no longer will plug in with the XLR output or the 1/4 inch all we get is this aweful buzz and static. I have had my neck adjusted to lower the action but amazingly it just keeps getting higher and the intonation has started to suffer because of it. We play everyday for 2-8 hours everyday, these guitars don't seem to beable to handle it. We have had these guitars for only 4 1/2 months. Hope this helps!

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been a picker for four decades. On a gig I just happened to stop in to get some strings, and saw these Dean Guitars, I tuned and played a 6 and 12 string-the six a cut-away model this was in 2002-I said, give me both of them, grabbed a couple of hardshell cases, and these gits are just fantastic for the price, and what's more they sound better than ones costing a grand more.

Dean Performer gives Bang for the Buck

      By BigBear1

      from Gastonia, NC

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased my Dean Performer as my first guitar. I looked at lots of guitars in the $300-$500 prices range, and the Performer seemed to win out on several levels. The workmanship of the Dean seemed to be a cut above most of the guitars in this range, as I saw several guitars with excess glue, gaps, and finish problems that do not exist on my Dean. The mini-jumbo shape, cutaway, and sound hole inlay and neck and body binding just make the Performer a great looking little guitar. Being a beginner, I had the dealer play the Dean for me, and was impressed with the tone emitted by the solid spruce top both plugged and un-plugged. I bought my Performer, and took it to my instructor for my first lesson. Although he is a classically trained guitarist who plays a guitar that cost 10 times what I paid for my Dean, he was really impressed. He played it and stated "You've gotten yourself a nice guitar, and at a steal, too!" He has asked to play it on more than one occasion. I had the Dean set up for me by a local Luthier to lower the action ever so slightly from the factory set-up,a replaced the factory strings with Martin Marquis med gauge. I have been very happy with the guitar I've been playing for 3 months now, and couldn't be happier with my Dean Performer. This guitar will give you alot of "Bang for the Bucks". I would suggest anyone looking for a solid guitar in the $300-$500 price range give the Dean Performer E a good hard look.

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have played the DSC model for over 2 years now live- every week. Overall the tone is great and the workmanship is excellent for the price. No regrets on the purchase. Not a lot of deep tone, if that is what you are looking for. Using a plugged-in system really can compensate. controls freally functional and useful. Rings bright and true with light gauge strings.

Comments about Dean Performer E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a very sharp looking guitar. It does sound good pluged in, but as far as being an acoustic I would not recomend it. The guitar is has a very pingy sound and does not create much volume. Do keep in mind this is a concert size guitar, but if you every plan to play out doors and acoustic don't rely on this guitar. I would recomend you to play it first before ordering. I ordered before playing and didn't like the sound from the start. Weeks later I traded it in and bought an Alvarez RD20SC. It's a great Acoustic Electric to grow with (as a learning musician). Sorry the Dean acoustic was just not for me.
