I bought one of these when they first came out however many years ago. I've used at practice, at jams, live, and for recording and through the course have beat the snot out of it and years later it still never lets me down. I liked it so much I bought a Vendetta Revenge for around eight times as much and while I loved that guitar, in overall value the XM takes it hands down. I actually like the pickups in the XM better too, it sounds a bit crazy but I've never played through better pickups. I've played through plenty of stock pickups via Ibanez, Gibson, Fender, LTD, Jackson, Peavey, Dean, and others including the Dimebucker and Dimarzio dual rail pickups but I still prefer the ones on my XM. I play a wide range of styles from classical-ish to jazz to pure metal and I can't make this thing sound bad for the most part. I've played it through Marshall, Peavey, Vox, First Act (lol), even the TBX150 that the salesman laughed at me for buying and this thing just sounds good. For the money it's an absolute no brainer, BUY IT. I have seen a few negative comments about this guitar and it's mostly about the finish. I can't swear that they still make the natural finish but it does exist, I have one. That being said, if they sent me a pink one I'd just paint it myself. For this price how can you complain about the finish?? If you want to hang something on the wall hit a yard sale, if you want a guitar worth playing for as near free as they get buy an XM. As for the fellow that gave it a con of poor quality because the action was too high, please just go google "how to adjust my guitars bridge" or better yet take it in and pay a guitar tech a few to set it up the way you like it. You can't get better for the money, but you can easily get worse for more money.

The other reviewers commented on how light the body is. What they fail to mention, is how soft the wood is. It's actually softer than Basswood, kind of like Cedar. Which fails this guitar for any sort of longevity. Screws strip the wood so easily, that alone rules it out as a contender.
The Neck is C shaped. Not Schecter or Ibanez thin, but it still feels good.
The Pickups are great for that Rock, Grunge/ Garage type sound. Not bass heavy, Very raw sounding with lots of bite.
My other gripes may have been reserved to my guitar alone. It came with the Nut slotted too deeply, lots of high frets, and curved parts of the body seemed whittled by a knife, not a CNC machine.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

I ordered this guitar in black for my wife to learn on. When the guitar arrived I noticed that it was a solid matte black not a black wood grain, also the headstock was damaged. I contacted customer service and the guy on the phone was very kind and helped me dertermine that the guitar sent was the wrong model as it had a whammy bar and the one I ordered does not. He sent me a ups label to send the guitar back and said he would expedite the shipping for the new one since I had been so calm and understanding. He also said I could expect the new guitar on Friday (this was Monday). I dropped the guitar off at ups the next morning. On that Thursday I received an email stating that the wood grain was not as noticeable as it was in the pic. I called in to verify the new guitar had been shipped as the wording of the email made it sound like they were not sending it. I was informed that the new guitar had not shipped because they had not received the first one back. They asked me if I had the ups tracking number because they said they did not see one in their system. Eventually he said I could expect the new guitar by Tuesday (one week and a day after the first one). On Monday (one week)I received another email leading me to believe a new guitar was not coming. I called in again and went through the same confusion of the rep not finding good notes. Eventually he said it would ship out Tuesday morning (the day I was told the second time it would arrive). Tuesday evening I decided to call to check in again this time about ready to try and cancel the order. The gentleman this time was able to find all of the notes and that the new guitar had still not shipped so he placed me on hold to look into it. When he returned he told me it would ship out the next morning (wed. 1.5 weeks after first guitars arrival.). I said ok irritated and in disbelief after the previous calls. The next day I finally received a shipping notice and today, exactly two weeks after the first one arrived I received a new guitar. When I opened the guitar I found it to be un damaged but still not as advertised with the wood grain. It is a solid matte black finish no matter how much light you shine on it.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

Upon very quick arrival, took out of box and tuned to 440. Could not put the guitar down and after approximately 30 minutes of string bending and regular playing, the guitar was still in tune. I've owned many expensive guitars over the years and I was blown away by the Vendetta. Great action, great pick-ups for being inexpensive, and the feel was awesome. Do yourself or someone else a big favor and get one. Can't go wrong with this baby. And by the way, very easy on your back.

has good frets tuners are good sounds good,
i bought a D.Vendetta guitar i was disapointed in the way it looked the color on the body, no shine at all ,and didn't look like wood as shown on the picture ,so i bought some,, lemon oil cleaner and conditioner by planet wave and i bought restore deep cleaning cream care buy planet wave, from this site , i took the strings off removed the tuning nubs and opened the pickups, and i used the lemon oil cleaner and conditioner ,and cleaned the body with it then i dried off the body and then put on the restore deep cleaning and cream care, rubbed it in good ,then i let it sit for a few minutes then i got a clean cloth a soft one , and rubbed (buffed it in ) i was so surprised at the shine and could see the redwood color come out , i buffed more and more ,,the more i buffed the more beautiful the body looked ,then i let it sit over night the next day i got another soft cloth and rubbed more ,i can;t say enough HOW NICE THE BODY LOOKS,, what a BIG difference it made,,i can honestly say i was real disappointed in how it looked when i first got it but now i am happy , i will say mine started falling apart because the company didn't screw in the parts good but i fixed it all ,it does play good has good frets and toners ..so if you want it to shine i say buy the lemon oil cleaner and the restore cream, follow the instructions on the bottles , you will be amazed how well they work and what a difference it makes to the body MUSH nicer, my friends can't believe its the same guitar,,,neither can i... this is a good guitar for the price ....

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

I've played guitar >30 yrs., and needed an electric for practice & stage. I've owned Dean electrics before, & prefer them; primarily, for the quality of the necks & playing characteristics (low, fast, & expressive). This very inexpensive guitar is a good choice for anyone (any skill level) who's strapped for cash. The only 2 shortcomings of the one I bought (IMHO) are the placement of the output jack, and the fret ends. The output jack is near the wide point of the body, which is too far forward to be completely out of the way when playing sitting down. The fret ends were slightly long, and abraded my index finger while doing bar chords. Also, the top E was getting caught under a fret end at 5th fret. I fixed this by running a sanding block w/ fine sandpaper along the neck edge; took 'em right down flush. I'd expected marring, and wasn't too concerned about it on a guitar this inexpensive - but, surprisingly, it still looks nice. I've taken this out a couple of times to open stage events, and everyone who tries it is amazed at what a great guitar it is for the price.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

I bought the brown one about 6 years ago, from MF. I hadn't played in quite awhile and had sold all my gear a few years previous. I bought to see if I had any desire to continue. Great choice. The pickups are fine, the neck is fast, the tuners are solid and the look is pretty cool. It stays in tune very well. I have since bought a few other guitars and this is still in the mix. I've tuned it open and use it pretty much for slide, only. I will say, it's got a good enough tone for pretty much any music. The neck isn't so narrow to make open chords difficult. No fret buzz anywhere on the fretboard. It kind of feels like plastic or like it has a paper finish over some really lightweight wood. It makes it very neck heavy, but if you sling it a little lower while you're standing, it's not a big deal. Two humbuckers and a three way switch actually give you three very distinct tones. That's not always a given on a low end guitar. Neck position is actually a really good rhythm tone with some dirt mixed in. The middle takes the bridge pickup shrill tone down a little bit. I don't use the bridge position alone too much. No shielding in the electronics cavity, but I really don't notice much noise. The humbuckers really keep the unwanted noise down. Even when switching, I don't hear any discernible pops or clicks. I can't say enough about the neck. It's not glossy on the back, so you can really get around pretty quick. I worry about the durability of the body wood, but I can't see any problems where the neck meets the body. The strap buttons do loosen up occasionally, but I'm a bit afraid to really torque them down as I think it may split the wood on the upper and lower bouts. I may just put some superglue in the holes. Overall, just a fantastic guitar for the price point. I think if someone were looking for a guitar to mod out, this would be the one. I think I might play around with the pickups and maybe do some cosmetic things, but it doesn't really need a thing. In fact, I'm gonna get off this computer and go play it, right now.

I purchased this guitar about 2 years ago. After a week of playing it, I wrote:"All you young whippersnappers should fall on your knees and thank Dean for putting out this fabulous instrument at such a killer price."TWO YEARS LATER, MY REVIEW IS NOW STRONGER THAN THAT. THIS is the guitar I reach for more than any other. The combination of lightweight feel, ringing sustain, and mucho-comfortable keyboard is a winner. If you are a beginner moving from an acoustic to electric, this is the one. This guitar disproves the notion that fancy tone woods and high prices are the key to good guitars. Guitar snobs, forget it. People in search of an instrument you might fall in love with, take note.

i just traded for a used one of these deans. man it is actually pretty good. light weight, good sustain, plays really smooth..... and the tone is actually good. i was very surprised. if you got a good pedal and amp, this will sound good for recording, for stage, jamming etc.

i have a bunch of guitars (dean, esp, jackson, schecter) and this is definately one of my favorites.

I recently purchased this guitar for my husband because he needed one to carry/leave at church. He has his 1964 Mustang Fender, but as soon as he picked this one up and played I can not get him to put it down. He loves the sound. He was impressed that he played ,bending strings as he calls it, for almost an hour and it was still in tune. Great guitar , regardless of money spent.. that is just an awesome bonus...oh and it looks great as well..

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

I bought the silver one from another store. I wanted to see if I could buy an inexpensive but quality guitar. This one far exceeded my expectations. Out of the box, after I tuned it, it played pefect. No setup needed. The guitar has no flaws. My weights in at 7lb 4oz.

The tuners are of good quality and are thin, not trapezoidal. The neck is thin D-shape and about 19mm thick. It feels better than ibanez's rg350 neck. Very smooth. The fretboard is a nice dark rosewood and there is no fret sprout. Intonation was almost dead on. Neck pocket is nice and tight, no gaps. Nice solid three way toggle switch and tone/volume knobs. Metal neck strap buttons. Pickups sound fine to me. It's very loud acoustically. Action out of the box on high e-string is 1.8mm and 2.4mm on low e-string. Not much to else to say except that it's an incredible buy. Would definitely buy again.

This guitar was a gift for my little bud back in Kansas. The guitar came in earlier than expected and he loves it, and thats what counts.

                      Thanks.

I have had this guitar for a few years now, and I play it at least once every two weeks on stage. Its solid and it's lasted. I have considered putting better pickups in it... but in the end I always hesitate because I really like the stock sound.. Its unique and very versatile, you can get cleans that shimmer for some U2 type sounds, and some dirty Nirvana and really mad metal sounds. I love it. Its also very light, and very easy to play. I'd recommend it for beginners, and experienced players on a budget, like myself.

Overall, just buy it, great price, great playability. Go for it! you wont be disappointed!
Feature-wise, its really simple, just your usual HH setup, a tone and a volume pot, a 3 way toggle, all which work well (but may need to be tightened every now and again.) And the neck is really fast, and GREAT action. But i'd say the only con for it would be the tuners, they're not the best, but they work. also, its SUPER light, so easy on the back.
For the money, the quality is really great, i wasn't really expecting anything too special about it, but its built well, the frets are very well done, and i was extremely happy with the all around build and quality of it!
The value on this baby is quite amazing, it really can't be beat, for the money you get a great guitar thats easy to play, light, and just really fun to rock out on!

i was not happy with this guitar when i got it, it didn't look anything like it shows in the picture i want the natural stained wood as it shows in the picture with a little shine , it don't look nothing at all like that,or had any shine,,,,,? but my friend said it was a good guitar for the price that it has good frets good sound , and yes i agree i was truly disappointed in the looks .. so i got some guitar wax and waxed it up nice it brought the redwood color out and gave it some shine ,really improved the look, but i have only played on it a few times and its already falling apart ,one of the turn volume controls broke,i haven't even used that part yet sense i am just learning, and the nut keeps comming loose i wish i would of sent it back from the get go like i wanted to,shore its a low price guitar , but i still don't want it falling apart on me ,, i have been very careful with this guitar just because ,that's the way i am with my belongings ,i take care of what i have so it last, i will NOT buy another D,Vendetta guitar again,,

                        .
I am buying this guitar because my lead guitarist swears by them, he broght one over and I played it. .
It plays better than most of my other guitars and just as good as my GIBSON LES PAUL it disgusts me to even type that. because of the differences in the prices. its just not right.
the thin neck and 24 JUMBO FRETS. make it insanely fast. and I definately recommend this for metal players and the neck pick-up is AMAZING for bluesy solos.the other pick_up is OK..

A friend bought one of these for my school music class. It is bad. It won't stay in tune, and parts are coming loose. Also I personally think it is ugly. It has a wierd feeling neck on it. very wide. The input jack is very messed up. and the knobs don't really stop they go all the way around and have sunk onto the body. Buy an agile copy of a fender, gibson or prs. they are cheap, they have better pickups, and finally mine came stock with some grover tuners and stays in tune for around a week. Les Paul style ones have set necks. Finally they actually have looks I have one that matches to some real Les Pauls that I have used, they are that good. Don't buy. Just save and buy something better

I read quite a few negatives on this but decided to try one anyway. My guitar came in flawless condition. The set up was almost dead on. All I had to do was some tuning and lower the action only a hair. The electronics are solid and the pups sound decent for a hundred buck guitar. I'm playing this through a Peavey Vypyr with heavy distortion and it crunches!!!! The neck was straight and I had no fret buzz at all. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would not hesitate to buy another.
