I bought one of these when they first came out however many years ago. I've used at practice, at jams, live, and for recording and through the course have beat the snot out of it and years later it still never lets me down. I liked it so much I bought a Vendetta Revenge for around eight times as much and while I loved that guitar, in overall value the XM takes it hands down. I actually like the pickups in the XM better too, it sounds a bit crazy but I've never played through better pickups. I've played through plenty of stock pickups via Ibanez, Gibson, Fender, LTD, Jackson, Peavey, Dean, and others including the Dimebucker and Dimarzio dual rail pickups but I still prefer the ones on my XM. I play a wide range of styles from classical-ish to jazz to pure metal and I can't make this thing sound bad for the most part. I've played it through Marshall, Peavey, Vox, First Act (lol), even the TBX150 that the salesman laughed at me for buying and this thing just sounds good. For the money it's an absolute no brainer, BUY IT. I have seen a few negative comments about this guitar and it's mostly about the finish. I can't swear that they still make the natural finish but it does exist, I have one. That being said, if they sent me a pink one I'd just paint it myself. For this price how can you complain about the finish?? If you want to hang something on the wall hit a yard sale, if you want a guitar worth playing for as near free as they get buy an XM. As for the fellow that gave it a con of poor quality because the action was too high, please just go google "how to adjust my guitars bridge" or better yet take it in and pay a guitar tech a few to set it up the way you like it. You can't get better for the money, but you can easily get worse for more money.

The other reviewers commented on how light the body is. What they fail to mention, is how soft the wood is. It's actually softer than Basswood, kind of like Cedar. Which fails this guitar for any sort of longevity. Screws strip the wood so easily, that alone rules it out as a contender.
The Neck is C shaped. Not Schecter or Ibanez thin, but it still feels good.
The Pickups are great for that Rock, Grunge/ Garage type sound. Not bass heavy, Very raw sounding with lots of bite.
My other gripes may have been reserved to my guitar alone. It came with the Nut slotted too deeply, lots of high frets, and curved parts of the body seemed whittled by a knife, not a CNC machine.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

I read quite a few negatives on this but decided to try one anyway. My guitar came in flawless condition. The set up was almost dead on. All I had to do was some tuning and lower the action only a hair. The electronics are solid and the pups sound decent for a hundred buck guitar. I'm playing this through a Peavey Vypyr with heavy distortion and it crunches!!!! The neck was straight and I had no fret buzz at all. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would not hesitate to buy another.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

I bought a Dean Vendetta XM due to a sale price. My principle objective was to buy a guitar from which I could build my own, and a 24-fret bolt-on neck was a key driver. I had budgeted a much larger sum to build a solid-body using some 2" ash planks milled by a neighbor...but then financial woes set in and the project got held up. Receiving the Dean I was skittish, having read many very positive reviews, as well as some very negative ones. My story: Good news, bad news. The bad first...the neck pickup had been pushed in, I guess, stripping out one of the adjustment screw holes. Not fatal, as I could deform the sheet metal in some Vise-grips enough to make it work, so didn't even consider returning it. Little stuff beyond that...loose screws and hardware, easily fixed; no pickup pocket shielding, but fixed with some foil...and will do a more permanent job if I decide to keep it in original form. Since this was to be an organ donor for a self-built guitar, I wasn't too worried, and it really didn't take a lot of work to fix the oversights. Then I noticed a much larger issue, and one not covered in the reviews, that I can remember. The neck pocket was not machined parallel to the body, tilting the neck far out of alignment. Shimming it with about .070" put it right, and I could set it up properly. Again, not a big deal, as I am pretty handy with woodworking, but this would be a show-stopper for one less capable. Good news: Once I shimmed the neck with a custom, hand-fitted walnut wedge, tightened things up, set the action and bridge, it sounds really good for a low-cost experiment. I'm playing it in as it adjusts to the new set-up, and will decide in fairly short order if I keep it as is, or if I cannibalize it for the project guitar. At this point, it's a toss up, but both options are pretty positive. For anyone else considering this guitar, it can be a real treat if it's given a chance to get correctly set up by one with patience and some woodworking skills.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

I've played guitar >30 yrs., and needed an electric for practice & stage. I've owned Dean electrics before, & prefer them; primarily, for the quality of the necks & playing characteristics (low, fast, & expressive). This very inexpensive guitar is a good choice for anyone (any skill level) who's strapped for cash. The only 2 shortcomings of the one I bought (IMHO) are the placement of the output jack, and the fret ends. The output jack is near the wide point of the body, which is too far forward to be completely out of the way when playing sitting down. The fret ends were slightly long, and abraded my index finger while doing bar chords. Also, the top E was getting caught under a fret end at 5th fret. I fixed this by running a sanding block w/ fine sandpaper along the neck edge; took 'em right down flush. I'd expected marring, and wasn't too concerned about it on a guitar this inexpensive - but, surprisingly, it still looks nice. I've taken this out a couple of times to open stage events, and everyone who tries it is amazed at what a great guitar it is for the price.

Good value, playes great out of the box. Pickups are better than expected at this price. Down side is the color. MF showes pic of nice natural finsh, Guitar came with a ugly opaque brown paint job. If you want this model get it in black. You won't go wrong.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

Firstly this is a great "bang for your buck" guitar, but it may be a better deal to snag an Epi or Squier Bullet for the same price.
Neck: Feels pretty good. Between a Strat and an Ibanez. No complaints.
Tuners and Headstock: 8/10 one tuner bushing vibrates and the nut needed filing.
Frets: 9/10 Pretty good. I polished them a bit anyway.
Bridge: Needs replaced. Cheaply made ABR TOM. Intonation screw for G string slides out of place. The string thru ferrules should be a little further back, but not a huge problem. Despite this it does stay in tune relatively well.

Overall, it's good for the money, but to make it better there would need a hardware overhaul. New nut, tuners, and bridge. And at least on mine, the pickups' pole to pole barely matches up with the strings, especially on the bridge pup, which is actually installed a little croooked.
I will say i like the sound of the pups and the guitar plays well after a quick setup.

Tip of headstock splintered during shipping.
Modified headstock to get rid of splintered part.

Wow! How could Dean make a guitar this good, for this low price. I guess the thin finish helps to save manufacturing costs. But, it's a great guitar, anyway.

I like it so much, that I bought a matching EVO model the very next week, and I build guitars !!!

Comments about Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar:

Let me start by saying that I thought it would be fun to have a collection of low priced guitars. I have been pleasantly surprised overall, and this guitar pretty much blows me away. The overall quality is quite good. The neck is thin and flat (large neck radius), which is exactly what I like. The sound is good, pickups seem pretty nice. If I had one complaint, it's that it didn't seem to be set up at all - the string action was crazy high. But that was easy enough to fix! I thought back to my first electric guitar from 50 years ago - some unknown brand Japanese wonder that cost more than this - and am truly amazed at the overall quality of this guitar. This could easily be your ticket to garage band heaven!

Customer service has been good and other than the chip/broken headstocks, sounds awesome, feels great right out of the box.
