This is an okay guitar. I would recommend this guitar to someone who is just looking for a decent affordable guitar. This guitar is INCREDIBLY light. The body and neck of the guitar resonate very well with each other. This Dean also has slight internal reverb. The tremolo does stay in tune fairly well. I can dive bomb it and it comes back to "zero" perfectly. I really like the neck on this guitar, it has a thin neck profile with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard is very smooth and easy to play on.My main problem with this guitar is the pickups. The stock pickups in the guitar are sort of muddy, I recommend switching out the pickups. The guitar lacks sustain, the note usually just dies out after maybe 3 seconds.

Out of box - guitar was not color pictured (natural satin)- this one is more dark cherry matte finish, can't see woodgrain, guitar had no scratches or dents, however plastic parts (pickup holders, etc)very thin with sloppy untrimmed edges, toggle switch very loose, low quality, often fails to connect to neck pickup, tone and volume pots (adjusters) very low quality - tone adjuster is noisy, action ok, but buzzed on 13th and lower frets EAD strings, many frets have sharp edges. All guitars need some adjustments right out of the box, but if you took this guitar to a shop to be fixed, would cost you at least 150.00 USD. I do my own adjustments (set up), so after about 8 hours (change strings, adjust truss rod, file frets, clean toggle switch and pots with contact cleaner, adjust bridge) this guitar is almost ready to play. Final assesment - if you want a cheaply built guitar as a hobby to fix up, you might like this - but if you are a beginner with little repair / maintenance knowledge, buy a better guitar, you will save yourself money and fustration

The Dean Vendetta XMT w/ Tremolo

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Dean Vendetta XMT Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

I bought this electric about two years ago from, you guessed it, musiciansfriend.com. It was a decent guitar... at first, but then I noticed a slight crack on the end of the neck. I returned it and got another one, this one had a damged headstock, but I decided I was tired of waiting for another guitar and kept it. This one played alright for a couple of months. Since then, however, it has become slightly aggravating. About a year ago it started to buzz (All 6 strings) and the way it is set up, in order to turn the truss rod you have to take the strings off. The sound is decent, but if you aren't such a metal fan, DON'T BUY IT. If you like to play rock, funk, etc. you should probably find a good Yamaha, Epiphone, or Squier for a couple bucks more. Me? I'm going to sell this and buy an Ibanez Hollowbody. Hope this helps!

Comments about Dean Vendetta XMT Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

Playing this guitar about 3 months. I found no fret buzzing and push pulling the dual humbuckers I was able to create a wide range of sustain to sharp bell sounds from the strings. This is my 4th guitar and I play this one all the time. I have a 10 watt amp and a 25 watt amp I do recommend using 25 watt amp or higher with this guitar, that way you get all. Replacing the original strings with bullet ends is also a plus.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XMT Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

This is a double digit pricetag guitar, You aren't buying a Fender Custom Shop instrument here. Great for beginners. Might need a little work to be a good back up instrument. From the previous reviews it sounds like Quality Control is all over the place on these.

I have been playing for 28 years, and have played plenty of high end guitars (Fender, Gibson, PRS, Jackson, ESP).

The Good: Looks great, satin finish natural wood grain, a little darker than advertised but not an issue. It also plays pretty nicely, with some caveats which I will get to in a minute. I will say that (in my case) the action and playability is equal to any of my Fenders that get used daily.

The "Meh": Had about 4 high frets causing some string buzz. Had a tech friend fix the high frets with a little filing/crowning. The nut is cheap plastic and in my case needed to be filed wider (not deeper) because the strings were pinching in the nut. Best to replace the nut with a decent quality one. Also once the strings were off, the neck was a little loose. A couple of turns of the screwdriver resolved.

The Bad: Tuning machines are cheap, I play a lot of blues, i.e. a lot of bending. This thing goes out of tune in under 5 minutes. Replace the machines with decent ones, possibly even some locking machines, problem resolved.

Summary: A decent guitar overall with some minor annoyances. All of which can be fixed relatively cheaply. If you're willing to invest in the inexpensive price tag and then spend that amount again on updated nut/tuning machines plus a little one on one time with the instrument you will have a back up stage guitar that rivals most guitars that cost 5 to 6 times the price.

This was a gift guitar to a child. Unfortunately, each of the guitars I received were damaged. I sent back 3 guitars total. Of course, MF was very easy to work with on this. The damage was always a cracked or broken headstock. that being said, the guitar felt nice in my hands and had a nice look. Poor craftsmanship.

The Dean Vendetta XMT provides a LOT of guitar for very little money. It gives you a cross between a Strat and an SG. The natural wood finish is particularly nice and the 24 fret fingerboard is a huge bonus! If you aren't trying to impress someone with a popular brand name, this is a great guitar to have in your arsenal!

I play at home, in church and for family gatherings. I plug in to a fender amp and it sounds great with plenty of punch. Wish it came with an adjustment book for setting pickups and string heights. I had to figure out on my own, but once I did it was a good sound. Tunners aren't that great, but you can change them. I mean after all, for this price It is a great guitar for beginners, practice and small gatherings. I would recommend this to anyone.

This is a very cool guitar for the price you pay. I bought it for my son who already has three others and he loves it. Needed to be adjusted when we got it and the only real complaint I have is the headstock had a very large chip knocked off the top when we got it. Looked through the packing and didn't find the chip-or I would have just glued it on. Must have been shipped that way. Besides that which I have yet to resolve I do like the guitar and would recommend it.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XMT Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

This guitar is far better than the price would imply! I bought it specifically for shred
practice since it was inexpensive and has a 24 fret neck. Out of the box the trem
was "flat down" and I had to remove one spring from the back and readjust the
anchor bracket. Once retuned and given time to settle in everything works great
and it stays in tune during hours of vigorous playing. I could find no workmanship
flaws on the guitar at all. The Dean quality control must be excellent or else I got
that one "cherry" from the production run! The body is slightly smaller than a Strat
and the neck is slightly thicker, wider, and flatter than my Strat. I've thrashed on it for
hours a day and I think it's the bomb! The looks are totally understated and the black
satin finish is pitch black and menacing. The guitar feels solid and I get some
unusual tones and resonance from it that my Strat doesn't do. I highly recommend
this instrument to any metal head on a budget! As an old pro myself I wouldn't
hesitate to rock it on stage. Plus, Musician's Friend did a price match for me that
lowered the tag even more! Delivery was swift and the unit was packed inside three
different boxes for shipping protection. Whadya got to lose? Order one today!

Comments about Dean Vendetta XMT Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

I'm a beginner, and this is my 2nd electric. My 1st guitar is an Asian made Fender Stratacaster. I thought it sounded pretty good until I played this XMT. The Vendetta has a better feel, the frett board is almost flat which I personally like. I would'nt say the neck is lightning fast, but it's still very fast. The sustain is realy good, the kind you would expect from a much more expensive guitar. The clean tones are as nice as the distortion, and it delivers great chunk. That's the main reason for my purchase, SERIOUS METAL. I also looked at the Ibanez Mikro, which did have great reviews, but it only had 2 bolts on the tremalo compared to Deans 6 bolts, which is obviosly stronger. Plus, I also wanted a real full size guitar, and the Ibanez Mikro has only 22 frets. I can't say much about the wammy-bar, because I never use it, but it does seem to work just fine. Now, about the quality, the volume and tone pots are probably about as cheap as you'll find on any guitar in this price range or even a bit more expensive, but they work just fine. The pick-ups are suprisingly good, I don't plan on changing them out any time soon. It's lite, but with good balance, which is actually kinda nice. This is a sweet guitar that I would recomend to any beginner or anyone for that matter. Again, if you want better parts in your guitar, you're just gonna have to pay more money, maybe 2-3 times as much. But, for the money I spent, I'm very happy. I hope this review was helpful.

Asked for a guitar for Xmas when I was 12. Got this one now when I'm 19. Thanks mom. Got it when it was on sale, didn't know how long it'd last. Anyway, most excellently set up guitar. One fret buzzes. Only complaint. Well, that and the 5 year wait. This is my 4th guitar, quickly becoming my favorite. Well worth the money, could see it becoming a project guitar in the future. Not that it's not good, but it could be fantastic with a few tweaks.

Comments about Dean Vendetta XMT Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

Mine was a nick & dent, missing the tremolo bar, with a nasty chip out of the wood on the neck. But, I knew what I was buying, and I was buying a beater guitar with good sound for my son's 1st. Sounds great, feels great with only a tiny fret buzz that won't be there too long.
