i bought the drive s-101 and the Behringer GM-108 amp. i love them both.this s-101 has shielded 2 conductor wiring on its pickups. the body appears routed for 2 single coils and a humbucker at the bridge. it came with 3 500k pots installed. I put tinfoil on the entire pickguard and trem cover and subjectively i would say there is no hum now. the jack plate was loose and the fret ends are pretty rough. the pickguard was warped around the neck pickup. i installed fender super bullet 10's and the sound seemed much improved. i bought the behringer gm-108 amp instead of the drive guitar/amp combo because for a little more i got cd input (for playing along), headphone out, modeling and a bigger speaker at 15 watts. this amp is loud, powerful and versatile for the price. i cant believe all the different sounds this combo puts out. This is my first guitar.

I bought this guitar because I wanted a cheap Strat to do some practicing with until I got my new Fender, and I have no complaints. I have had it for a couple of weeks and have had no real problems (except for the quality of the strings that were on it). This would be a great guitar for anyone who just likes to have some fun and play/practice guitar without being too serious.

Best present ever!

I got this guitar for Christmas, and I am proud to say that it has just as good of sound, if not better, than my friend's Fender Strat. Great guitar!

I have this guitar, but mines a fat strat model, so it has 2 singles and a humbucker, which I replaced with a seymour duncan invader, but standard it was great too. its a really nice guitar, I recommend it for a beginner to get a nice guitar for a sweet price.

Great Guitar

By Mrkr

from chicago, illinois

This is a great guitar, especially if you're just starting to learn how to play. It is easy and comfortable for me to play because it has a pretty thin neck and is very light. But the whammy bar is a bit stiff at first until you get the hang of it. I recomend this guitar to anyone, novice or expert, for rock or blues, it's a great guitar.

This is an excellent guitar for the great price.

By Driveman

I took a chance on buying this guitar, not knowing what I was going to be getting. Well, the gamble paid off nicely. I am so pleased with the "playability" of this guitar and I have been playing guitar for years. I have no complaints. Anyway, folks, young or old, if you are on a limited budget, this guitar is nice and I am very, very pleased with it. It reminds me of an old Washburn that I had years ago before they became a big name!

I was shock with this little axe. For the price, it's a big guitar. I just love the fast neck. It frets as good as my MARTIN D-41. Awesome guitar. What a buy.

Drive S101 Guitar

By Rock Star Beginner

Features 3 knobs, 5-way switch. Quality is great for this price and especially if you're a beginner. The price is affordable! It sounds different on with an amp. Overall, this is my first guitar and I like it!

Decent guitar to modify

By RyKor

Get this guitar if you like to make things into your own. You'll want a new pickguard at least and definitely new pickups.

don't let the low price or the unfamiliar brand name fool you. I have had this guitar for about 2 weeks now and aside from a few minor glitches (a tight tuning peg and a missing pickup mount), I really love this guitar. The action and the sound are far better than most guitars costing 3 times this much. I must admit though, after 20 years of guitar playing this is my first single coil guitar and it really is turning out to be a bit of an epiphany. I first bought it to take camping, but I think I'll be using it for much more than that.

Its sound quality is quite normal, but fits in your arms carefully and comfortably. I recommend this for beginning artists.

Second time around...

I liked my black S-101 so much, I was given a sunburst S-101 for my birthday! Now I have one to diddle with (I want to change the tone pots to 250K, and wire pickup selectivity and series/parallel connection) and one to keep stock. As far as hum goes, this stock S-101 is quiet -- as quiet as the S-101 I shielded with foil on the pickguard, tremolo plate, and in the cavity. So much for my foray into shielding. I think the lack of hum is due to (besides keeping the volume and drive on the amp low) the shielded two conductor wire on the pickups, the metal plate on the bottom of the pickups, and the potting (either epoxy or wax, I'm not sure which) on the pickups. Any hum out of the amp is the same whether a guitar is plugged in or not. There was a small warp in the pickguard near the neck, and a small tilt in the neck pickup.

its a great guitar

this guitar is awesome. I've had it for 2 years and it is still one of my favs to play. The only thing thats not so great is the whammy bar... it's a lil stiff. but this guitar has almost the same tone as my Fender Strat. It plays faster has a straighter neck and is definitely better than any Squire strat. the amp sucks...i blew it in 2 weeks... but who can complain when you get a guitar like this and an amp for so cheap. Overall... it's great!!!

Great guitar!

By bassman59

from Puyallup, WA

For a cheap guitar, this is a great axe! I have compared it to the SAME thing with a different brand name that sells for more - and it's no different! If you want a knock around guitar, that you don't have to worry about, that does a really good job - this is something you can't miss on. No regrets on picking this up!
