OVERVIEW

B.B. King Lucille is Epiphone's version of King's famous Gibson.

Made to play the blues, the Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar features 2 humbuckers with stereo output to two separate amps (one for treble, one for bass) and a Vari-Tone control that tailor your pickup sounds.

The body is laminated maple while the maple neck has a rosewood fretboard with block inlays. Body, neck, and headstock are bound. The TP-6 tailpiece allows precise tuning. Gold hardware adds another classy touch, and Lucille's name is prominently displayed on the headstock to remind you never to run back into a burning building.

King’s singular tone has everything you’d want to hear in electric blues guitar—a bell-like ring with a hint of overdrive, soaring highs and gritty lows, and all driven home by King’s mighty left hand tremolo. The Epiphone B. B. King Lucille was designed by B. B. King himself and puts all the tone and nuance of King’s own favorite guitar in your hands.

I received the first guitar and the neck was broken off! I immediately contacted MF and they sent a replacement - no questions asked. I also noticed that the first guitar had a finish that was not very good so I was skeptical about even requesting a replacement of the same product but when the replacement arrived, I was more than happy with the quality. The guitar felt very solid and the finish was beautiful. I know there are purists out there that refuse to purchase the Epiphone models of Gibson guitars and if money is no object, buy the Gibson but for the rest of us, Epiphone is a quality instrument. I have owned 2 Gibson ES-335's, 2 Rickenbacker 360's, a PRS, a couple Fender Telecasters and this Epiphone BB King Lucille is every bit as good as anything I have ever owned. I DO wish they would return the manufacturing of these products to the USA but of course, they would probably have to raise the price. The set-up right out of the box was very good and the guitar will require a break-in period but I could not be happier with this purchase and the service I continue to receive from MF. I am not giving this rating 5 stars only because the first guitar should have been checked for overall quality more closely before being shipped.

I just bought this guitar and I am very well pleased with it. The fit and finish are flawless. The pickups are great and she plays very easy. I play it with and without distortion and the sustain seems to go on forever. This is one beautiful guitar. If you're into the blues or even rock, this baby can handle it.

I bought this is a few years ago. I was initially disappointed in the sound. Action was good. It sat aroung for a few years with little play. I read a review by a guy who put Gibson '57 pickups in his Lucille. I decided to try this before selling the guitar. Wow! The pickups made this a whole new guitar. For a little more money, I turnded this guitar into a much more expensive sounding guitar. No, it is not a Gibson Lucille, but for less than 1/3 the money, I now have a highend sounding guitar.

    A Gentlemans Guitar

    By Alan S.

    from Freeport, Pa.

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

I have had my Epiphone Lucille (Chinese) for about 7 months or so. Pickup are good. Some say muffled, I say mellow. Make no mistake about it, it will rock. Sounds similar to my Sheraton(Korean) which has been modded with Gibson 57's, CTS, orange drop and Switchcraft stuff. I'm glad the Lucille sounds different, probably due to no F holes. No plans on changing pickups, at least not yet. It's surprising how much the varitone alters your tone. Great when messing with effects. I can even get some real nice acoustic tones. Overall quality is very good. The only issues I have is a small color bleed on the top binding at the neck / body and a small spot near the nut. Overall finish is beautiful. It's got some weight to it. With the right amp settings, I can get almost a piano like sound when playing single notes on the low strings. I have several guitars and play this and the Sheraton most. The guitar certainly has class and character. Personnally, I think it's a versatile guitar. Try one!

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

My wife bought me my Lucille for my birthday back in '09. Ever since then, it has been my go-to-guitar. The first thing that you notice is, of course, the appointments; the beautiful black finish with gold hardware really catches the eye. Epiphone has a reputation for having their hardware fade. There has been some fading on the pickup covers, but, for the most part, it has held up remarkably well in the six years that I have had it.
Now for the real issue: how does it play and sound? I read a review that suggested that the pickups be swapped out for a set of Gibson PAFs. I can't say that's a bad idea... maybe it would improve the sound. All I can say is that I am VERY happy with the tones that I get from mine. I can go from rough humbucker tones to just about any desired sound by toggling through the different positions on the Vari-tone switch. The stereo output is something that I have used on occession with good success, but I usually don't bother with it.
Other reviews try to compare the Epiphone version with the Gibson. Let's be honest about a couple of things: first is that, after playing both, this is no Gibson. However, I am not a professional musician, nor am I made of money. The Gibson is far and away the better instrument. For my money and for my abilities, though, the Epi is more than enough! B. B. King often said that the Epi is "a fine instrument." Les Paul would say that Epiphones provide a quality instrument at a price that young people can afford. Who am I to disagree with them?

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

I am admittedly a BB King freak, so may be somewhat biased. I have many guitars, including two Dot Deluxes (Koren & Chinese), but this one is destined to be my "go to" guitar. I have found nothing about it that I do not like. I have searched for several years for "that" guitar, one that I could really bond with, and I believe this is the one.

Setup was fine right out of the box for me...good intonation & string height. Musician's Friend gave me a great deal on her, which amounted to getting the case for free! And, with free shipping to boot.

As far as some of the other comments about being razzed at open jams, etc., all I can say is...Let the dogs bark!!

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

This is a quality guitar... I was nervous about paying 7 bills for an a Epiphone made in another country. Everything in my collection is made in the USA and ranges from Martin, Gibson to Fender. This guitar only needed a little fine touch-up to the out-of-the-box set up. The quality of this guitar makes it a real value for the price. It is almost like buying American quality at a discount. I am not fond of buying signature guitars, usually they are overpriced for having a name attached to them. I still get a little embarrassed when I pull it out bearing BB Kings name and Lucille on the headstock. But one it is plugged in that shy moment disappears. This is a sweet guitar...

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

Just received the guitar two days ago. Stunning appearance. Nice playing. Set up out of box not too bad, except for strings, which were probably made in China, like the guitar. For the money, you will find few guitars of this quality. This is a specialty guitar. Great for cleaner, BB King style blues. Fabulous for chordal work and rythymn guitar. Going from rythmn to lead requires upward adjustment of volume control. Rather bassy sound, and lead on higher strings can seem weak compared to bass strings without raising volume. Have not fully explored Varitone capabilities. Not designed for heavy overdrive. Certainly not a metal guitar. A welcome addition to my guitar arsenal.

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

I've had my Epiphone Lucille almost three years now and I can't find one bad thing to say about her. I've played her older sister and to tell you the truth, there is no difference in quality, craftmanship or tone. I seriously can't see paying that kind of money for a Gibson if you are a working musician. I would never take that kind of money out on a gig. I've had so many guys come up to me and ask if my guitar is a Gibson and I love it when I tell em it's an Epiphone. They play it and go nuts! Don't let the Lucille name scare you, this guitar is not only for the blues, but it stands out in rock and roll and jazz. If I ever lost it for whatever reason I would buy another one in a heart beat. Whoever made this guitar and whatever country it was made in, they have something to be proud of. Good job guys and gals where ever you are.

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

I was looking for an inexpensive hollowbody, and found this. Wow. It sounds wonderful plugged straight into my Fishman SA 220 PA which is why I chose it. As a solo acoustic act, this lets me throw in some electric flavor and feel without lugging around another amp. I can also use the stereo outs to run it through the Fishman and a tube amp at the same time. I also have a American Standard Strat and a 76 Les Paul that sound bad through the Fishman. This guitar really works well. The Lucille is excellent driving a tube amp. The varitone is awesome at obtaining a lot of different sounds, but it does take some volume out as you proceed up the dial. You can adjust for this. It plays great, feels great, and sounds great. Intonation, tuning, and action are spot on. I am very, very happy I bought it. Used with a case, the price could not be beat. If you are looking in this class of hollybodies, try one of these used. You will get way more bang for your buck than its competitors.

I have been playing 20 years and own 2 Strats, a Les Paul and a Hagstrom Viking. I originally went shopping for a Telecaster and came home with Lucille. This guitar has a build quality that I would rate B+ but the sounds this baby can create are incredible. You can make this guitar sound like a strat or a 335 or anything in between with a little tweak of the controls. Action is good and the finish is deep ebony with gold hardwear (that honestly I could live without) Deep resonance from the maple semi hollow is almost like reverb. Buy this guitar! I swore I would never buy an Epiphone! I swore I was always gonna be a Fender guy! Happily I've had to eat those words. I love Lucille!

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

Keep in mind you are paying for nice hardware. Also for B B King's name. But it's worth the money.
The amount of nice trim on the guitar is nice. Gold hardware, binding, inlay on the fretboard and headstock. But you can see all that on the pictures. I think the pickups are top of the line. They can be kind of "boomy,", but the Varitone will take some of the bassiness out of the tone. Neck is great. I've let other guys who are way better than me play it, and they love the neck.

Frets have been properly dressed and no sharp edges (one of my pet peeves, so I'm happy to state that.)

It would have been really cool if it came with a Bigsby, as does its Sheraton cousin, but I do a lot of palm muting and really have no use for a Bigsby. But darn they do look cool.

I do think this guitar can be kind of difficult to re-string because of the slots in the bridge. But the tuners are nice, and I really only need to re-tune (minor adjustments) once a set.
Overall, quality is good. I was somewhat disappointed that I had to adjust the saddle for the high e string to fix an intonation problem, but that's all I had to do for intonation.

Also, the nut for the mono jack was kind of loose and had to be tightened, so watch out for that.

              Other than those, no complaints.
This was my first nice professional level guitar. All my friends are jealous.

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar shortly after Mr. King passed away as a not so subtle nod to his influence on my playing style, and I must say that it is an absolute blast to play! Out of the box, it was setup and intonated almost perfectly, I just needed to tune it. After a string change and a couple days out playing it, I noticed that I rarely had to tune it and when I did have to, it wasn't very far off. Holds tune very well..haven't even had to use the fine tuners. I should also add that the "E" on the pickguard is only lightly glued on and can be removed and put away, or removed and glued more securely or left alone to stay and/or fall off eventually. Not sure why Epiphone does it, but it's there and can be dealt with/ignored based on your personal tastes.

The Varitone makes this very versatile, however you will lose some volume as you go, but that can be adjusted for. The finish is of good quality, the frets were dressed nicely, no snags. The neck feels good and the action was great all out of the box.

The pickups are good and handle distortion fairly well from what little I've played with distortion. The clean tones are good. There's a little boominess to the neck pickup, but you can either use the varitone or back the pickup itself down away from the strings. The bridge pickup sounds really good as well. A nice change of pace for someone whose played single coils since they started playing.

You're paying for nice hardware and the name as another reviewer said, but this guitar is definitely worth the money...especially if you can't afford to buy the Gibson but can manage this. Glad I bought it!

I purchased this about a year ago and it's still my goto guitar. Great sound, feels perfect. I agree with most the stereo jacks are awesome especially when run thru Line6 x3 live. With two inputs and dual paths on the x3 the sounds are unbelievable.. Only complaint is that it didn't come with a case. Other than that...I'd buy this beauty again and again.

I am very satisfied with the guitar, however, I am surprised that it did not come with a case or gig bag. I know it is not a Gibson but it still deserves protection. Could not even find a case with Musicians Friend. Had to go elsewhere to find a case

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

I just received this instrument and was thoroughly delighted. The only action I had to perform was to tune the guitar. I have read several negatives, but have not experienced any of them as of yet. Tone, intonation and variety of sounds are fantastic. The only recommendation I have at this time would be to add a hard sided case to the package, as I had to order one after the guitar arrived.

For those of us that our wives will not let us pay 5-7000 for a Gibson "Lucille" I feel this is the hottest bargain around.

I don't feel that i can give it an excellent rating due to the short time I have owned it, but I definitely give it a GOOD+.

Comments about Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Electric Guitar:

This has to be one of the sweetest guitars I've received. Epiphone is continuing to put out nice quality guitars at an affordable price for non-pro's and pro's alike. Everyone will have a pro or con to a brand, die-hards to Fender, Gibson, etc. I personally look for sound, feel, and how well they hold up, don't care about the brand. Heck, Petty's Mike Campbell comes up with some variations and look what he can do. That said, I also own a Sheraton II and would never part with it. This are wonderful selling guitars and for a wonderful price. You should be disappointed. I've had top end guitars that I'd match the Epi line with and have lasted an eternity. I also had BB King himself sign the Lucille which is now in a showcase in my music room with his signed photo. At 83 yrs, he may not be with us much longer I'm sad to say. But for now, try to see him if you can. He's a great show.

I got this guitar as an early college graduation gift from the parentals! It has been THE guitar I wanted since I started playing. I have been nothing but impressed with it!The tone is amazing! You can make just about any sound come out of it. I play in the Praise Band at my church and all the musicians noticed a HUGE difference when I first plugged in. The stereo output option is an awesome feature. I have a FX board and it sounds great through it. She deffinately catches the eye as well. I love her and wouldn't have another guitar!
