Considering the modest price, this guitar turned out to be A LOT nicer than I expected it to be. The laminated flame maple top with wine red finish is VERY close to the shade of wine red that Gibson uses on its Les Pauls, and various other Gibson USA models. I couldn't find any real finish flaws on my 2005 Dot Deluxe. The wine red is truly awesome. Even if you can't tell by the pics, it's a dark classy shade of red with a decent amount of flame. It may just be a very thin sheet of flame maple laminate on top, but it sure looks nice! This Dot Deluxe also comes with gold Grover tuning machines, not some no name junk. These tuners actually do what they're supposed to! It has gold pickup covers, tone & volume knobs too. I like how the gold tone/volume knobs actually match the rest of the hardware on this model, unlike the standard dots which have chrome hardware that clashes with the goldish/amber colored knobs. This guitar has a nice beefy neck (not quite the baseball bat neck that my early 90's Gibson Les Paul Custom has though). As far as tone goes, the stock Epiphone Alnico pickups are hotter than stock/similarly priced Ibanez Artcores, making it better for rock, punk, or prog rock. In high gain situations, the smilary priced Artcore hollows & semi-hollows that I've tried, lose more bite & clarity than the Dot. One last thing that I noticed while making my purchase decision, is that the Artcores I've tried have smallish frets. This is coming from a 5ft 3 woman with average sized hands. I guess I prefer the larger frets like I have on my LP or my PRS CE24... that's another reason why I went with the Dot Deluxe. Many people replace the pickups on their Epiphones, but I think I'll keep' em in for a while. They sound pretty darn good for a guitar in this price range. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone who's always wanted to own a 335, yet didn't wanna shell out mega $$$. I used to buy only USA made guitars, basses, drums, etc., but the quality of a lot of imports these days is impressive. Don't let the fact that it's not made in the USA scare you off. This is a great guitar, and if you pick 1 up... just think you'll still have $$ left over for the rent, gas $$ for your car, and that must have sixer for band practice!

I love the way it looks, but the quality was poor. Loose screws, loose STRIPPED strap peg, the set up was pathetic and the E on the pick guard fell off, not that I wanted it anyway. The wires came loose inside on the jack during a gig!I paid to get it set up and STILL had to replace the Nut that was crooked and badly installed with a bone one. Now it's fine but it cost me $300 on TOP of the price. All I can say is I'll never buy another Epiphone.I will save and wait for a Gibson from now on.Beware!

I just got my wine red dot deluxe and I can't stop playing it... I have many other guitars but this one is a real piece of art... it feels great and it sounds as good as it looks. Great playability and amazing tone. I'm getting all these different sounds on it and it responds flawlessly. I highly recommend this guitar!

Amazed!!

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Archtop Electric Guitar with Gold Hardware:

I was a bit nervous buying a guitar online. I live about 2 hours away from the nearest quality electric guitar store, and I finally got the chance to try out an Epiphone Dot, Dot Deluxe, Sheraton II, and compare them side by side to a couple of new Gibson ES 335's. I currently own a Fender Strat, and have owned a Gibson Les Paul before, but I also had wanted a nice hollowbody with humbuckers for screaming blues and mellow jazz for sometime now. I was totally impressed and amazed by the quality and sound from the Epi Dot. In fact, the new Gibson 335's that I compared to had a poorer finish on the neck in my opinion, and would need to have a guitar tech tweak them before I would be happy. I bought a Red Wine Dot Deluxe from MF, received it about a week ago and have been thrilled by it since. My Gibson-owner buddies are impressed too.I'm not thrilled about the Epiphone symbol on the pick-guard, and one of the tone knobs was a little too close to the body (easy fix), but the sound, wood grain, color, and finish are otherwise superb. If you want a beautiful, high quality, great tone hollowbody and don't have the cash for a ES335, buy one of the Epi Dots or a Sheraton II, you won't be disappointed!

The Epiphone Dot Archtop is an excellent guitar. It plays just like an SG but has a fuller and better sound.

2000 Dot Deluxe

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Archtop Electric Guitar with Gold Hardware:

I bought a one with a natural finish in 2000. It had a few annoying issues, not least of which was improperly fastened frets - some were actually loose on the neck and could be pulled right out of the neck if I wanted to try. The action was pretty high, too. The store I bought it from re-fastened the frets (I'm no luthier - I guess they were hammered back in place?), and did a proper set-up on it, which fixed any playability issues. They did this for free, as it was brand new, and they considered it a workmanship issue. 11 years later, it still plays beautifully. Another issue that has cropped up is the pickup switch - it's scratchy and can even crap-out completely, especially when switching. Sometimes you have to wiggle it to get the pickups to work, but it usually works fine until the next time you want to switch (annoying). I suppose it would be easy enough to fix, but my Les Paul has never done this in 24 years of ownership. Good thing I have 2 other great electrics to choose from. Other than that, a bone nut would be nice, instead of the cheap plastic one. Overall, though, it has been a great guitar, especially considering the price. I would recommend this guitar, but don't be surprised if it has a couple of issues that need attention when you purchase it.

Dot Deluxo!

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Archtop Electric Guitar with Gold Hardware:

The bridge pickup isn't the world's greatest, but everything else about this guitar exceeded expectations. The finish is a deep burgundy with miles of maple - it doesn't photograph well AT ALL. I halved the stock action with no buzz, and the fit and finish is really much better than I was expecting - the binding, neck tenon, glue joints, pearl inlay on the gorgeous black headstock - everything, in short. I doubt I'll even swap out the neck pickup as I was originally planning to - it has a deep, mellow tone and 7.85 ohms of output. (bridge is 8.3). 2 volumes, 2 tones, a very fragile-feeling selector switch, and goldplate (we'll see whether it wears off!)

This is an exceptional value. My guitar tech was amazed at the quality of this axe. To hear that coming from some who works on ALL brands for a living was quite a testimonial, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to get the Epiphone case as well, it is a perfect fit.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Archtop Electric Guitar with Gold Hardware:

I just received my deluxe and I have mixed feelings. I've never played an ES 335 type guitar before so I can't give a comparison on the sound but I can say it sounds quite good, definitely different than a solid body but good. My main complaint about this guitar is the poor workmanship. As soon as I hit my first note and bent the string I was shocked! The frets were horrible! It felt as if I was sliding the string across sandpaper. I've never played a guitar that had frets dressed so poorly, in fact I can't believe they made it through the inspection process. I will have to have them dressed and polished before I can play it. Having said that the guitar is beautiful. Over time I will probably upgrade some parts here and there. I will likely change the bridge pup at some point. Once I fix the problem with frets I'm sure it will be a SWEET playing guitar.
