I've been using this guitar regularly for a year now and I'm still amazed at the quality of the tone, great playability and classic appearance, every time I take it out of the case. I was looking for a good playing and relatively inexpensive acoustic electric to use at an outdoor gig I've done for several summers when I order the Epi Dove Pro last spring. I had looked at several much more expensive guitars that used the same Fishman pick up system and really like their amplified sound. I did not want a pick up that needed a large hole in the side of the guitar to mount the preamp because of the difficult in finding a replacement when they fail. The Fishman with the controls inside the sound hole is ideal for my needs as well as sounding very natural.

When the guitar arrive my biggest surprise was how fantastic the Epi Dove Pro sounds unplugged. It is loud and very well balance. I was concerned that the maple back and sides might be overly bright, but this is not the case. The tone is robust and works well for either strumming or lead work. I generally prefer guitars with Koa back and side, but IMHO Koa guitars are too expensive to be exposed to the extremes in temp and humidity of a weekly summer gig in the Midwest. Sure the Dove is a litter brighter than say an instrument with solid rosewood back and sides, but nowhere near as bright as a some of the maple Guild or Taylor dreadnoughts I've been around. Full and neutral is the best way to describe the unplugged voice.

So now I'm entering year two of using this guitar and I'm still in love with it. I routinely get positive comments about its looks and sound. It stays in tune extremely well and is very easy to play I did not have to do any setup after it arrived. Put on new string and start using it. I also like the fact it had a strap button installed on the neck heal, something I wish more acoustic guitar makers would do.

Are there any negatives to this love story? There are a couple of items, but neither is anywhere near a deal breaker. I've never been crazy about the oversize, historically accurate Epiphone headstock. I'd much prefer it if the Dove used the same more compact headstock design / size found on the Epiphone Les Paul guitars. I also noticed over the very cold winter that the Dove needed more humidification than any of my other acoustics. Maybe because it is the newest and / or because it was played out in the summer heat a lot. It's something I'll keep an eye on next winter.

Bottom line, I whole heartedly recommend this guitar and would immediately buy another one if it was destroyed or stolen.

I was extremely disappointed with this product. Thought Epiphone was my answer to a good acoustic. Although the finish is beautiful, the sound when playing unhooked is dead. My cheap Gibson acoustic gets better resonance. One string was misplaced on the bridge causing a tuning issue, the frets are sharp and cuts my hands when barring a chord and sliding upward. The pick-up is great, but I just can't recommend it.

A FEW LITTLE CHANAGES MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE

Comments about Epiphone Dove Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I really like the looks of the Dove guitar and Epiphone has done a great job capturing a little of its glory. When I first tuned up the guitar I thought it sounded pretty good and had a similar sound to the Gibson's I've played. I decided to lower the action a bit by sanding down the saddle. (Something I am familiar with and have done before.) After I removed the saddle I noticed something under the fishman piezo itself. There were two shims used to build up the saddle, I guess. Of course I felt that was actually hurting the sound of the guitar both naturally and amplified. I ended up replacing the saddle all together and removing the shims. I noticed a huge difference in the sound quality right away. This guitar really came alive and gave me a better woody tone that I thought it should have. It not only looks good but now, sounds good too. It's nice to have both.

In Love With MY Dove!

Comments about Epiphone Dove Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Own a fleet of many git types, but often chose the Dove because she has such a big, old-school, hard-body sound with a soft, broad sustain. So easy to set bridge and rod for unbelievable playability because the D-neck is as solid as a railroad tie. Fishman is bright. To me? Worth FAR more than I payed.

I had to have it while it is still being made!
The need was not adjusted from the dealer, strings buzzed, so I had to adjust the truss rod. It sounds good now.

Comments about Epiphone Dove Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great play-ability and looks. Good sound. From factory strings buzzed because of a hump in neck. It was easy for me to adjust the truss rod to put some bow in the neck. Plays good now. The sound/tone controls are well placed just inside the hole edge and are easy to adjust. I have not figured out how to get the battery bag out to replace the 9V batt.

Beautiful guitar, sounded great right out of the box. Came with a near perfect setup- something I've never encountered with an epiphone. No fret buzz, solid workmanship, beautiful finish. You'd be hard pressed to find an instrument that could compete for less than 500$.

        Better than expected!

        By

Comments about Epiphone Dove Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great guitar for the price. Looks good and plays better than expected. Action was perfect out of the box, no setup was necessary. The only negative about this guitar is the location of the controls for the pickup. You have to stick your fingers inside the sound hole (I have big hands). This cannot be done while playing. Replacing the battery is also a hassle (you need to loosen or remove the strings). Other than that, it's a beautiful guitar and fun to play.
