Comments about Epiphone DR-90T Acoustic Guitar Pack:
Have played drums for 50 years and have decided in retirement to learn a new instrument to keep my mind shape. Purchased the Eppiphone guitar package based on the price and items included. My son, who knows basic guitar, played it and said he felt it is a very good guitar for the money. I haven't started teaching myself yet but have strummed it a few times and really like the sound and feel. The built in tuner is really handy too, especially for a beginner.
Pros
- Good Bang For The Buck
Cons
- Lack Of Back Bracing

Comments about Epiphone DR-90T Acoustic Guitar Pack:
Purchased this made in Indonesia guitar for my grandson to learn on and can't wait until we can play together! While the finish on this guitar is nearly flawless (it is a pretty guitar!) you will have to do some set up to get this to play decently. I threw away the strings that came with it, lowered the nut slots and the bridge, readjusted the neck relief, polished the frets and installed some ultra-light strings. It now is a very suitable instrument for him to learn on. If you're not into working on your own instrument, it absolutely is worth paying a good tech to set it up properly.
Although the ultra light strings affect the sound somewhat, it sounds decent for what it is. Once my grandson has some calluses built up, I'll install a little heaver gauge strings which will improve the sound and volume.
The only gripe I have is that there isn't any bracing at all on the back and the linings are eighth inch plywood. This means that you're going to have to be a little careful about throwing it on the back seat of your car. On the plus side, the neck profile is good for smaller hands and the satin neck finish makes it easy to move around.
The "Shadow" tuner installed in the sound hole is a neat trick, works well and has the advantage of being invisible to everyone except the guitarist. But you have to twist your finger around awkwardly to turn it on or off.
Bought this through MF's Stupid Deal and it is well worth what I paid.
Comments about Epiphone DR-90T Acoustic Guitar Pack:
It gets a ten out of ten, why? Try making a guitar from scratch some day and you can answer that question. The Shadow tuner is cool and works. The strings need replacing on mine, I recommend MF for D'Addario EJ16 PB lights, who can afford elixirs? We've had the PB's on a workhorse Taylor and when we did get around to changing them they were two years old. Sold me on D'Addarios. Enjoy your guitar, you will like the DR90T once it is tweaked a little. Make some music. Keep it until the day you die. Never trade guitars or sell them. Every time a guitar leaves your hands it costs you money. Remember, the guy / gal who dies with the most guitars wins. You'll be in heaven way before your time..... bd
It has a vintage sunburst solid plywood top. You expected me to say spruce top didn't you? Okay it's a plywood spruce top. Don't be fooled laminated or words like select, or even choice spruce top, are plywood. You get an electronic tuner, a wall hanger, a strap worth, and some picks. Good for newbie guitar players. That CD is likely worth the price of the guitar itself, but to be on the safe side lets value it at fifty cents. The guitar is worth the money, the fit and finish are amazing for the price and so are the tuners, cheap but work better than the ones they put on the Great Divide. If you buy a great divide from the two hippies, order a set of tuning machines to go with the instrument, but that's another story....
Ten out of ten. This guitar is made either in China or Indonesia, me thinks Indonesia. This guitar is missing the back ladder bracing common to every guitar ever made, except for those manufacturers that think domed plywood is plenty strong enough. It is, it won't fall apart but that is not all braces do. They create extreme rigidity in the back of an acoustic guitar, cause the back to be a very reflective surface rather than an absorptive surface. Again, for the price, I'd buy one braces on the back or not.
Ten out of ten. You can make a lot of music. Do yourself a favor and put lights on this instrument. Find a luthier and have him lower the action. Both ends.
