OVERVIEW

Epiphone's EJ-200CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar offers all the playability, sound and style of the revered Gibson original at an easier price. A staple of stage and studio, the original Gibson model has been played by everyone from Elvis to Emmylou Harris and is a favorite among singer-songwriters. The Epiphone EJ-200C has a jumbo maple body with spruce top, traditional mustache bridge, gold hardware, and classic crown fretboard inlays. The onboard electronics make it plug-and-play-ready for the stage. Unplugged this jumbo box creates a big, tightly focused sound. The eSonic2 preampWhen you're ready to take the stage, the onboard eSonic 2 preamp will help you quickly dial in the robust acoustic tone of the EJ-200CE. It faithfully captures the guitar's rich harmonic range. A precision chromatic tuner with automatic muting helps keep your intonation dead-on and allows discrete onstage tuning. The muting feature also keeps things quiet when plugging and unplugging the EJ-200CE into an amp or PA. NanoFlex pickupThe term "NanoFlex" refers to its ultra thin (nano-like) profile and its flexibility that allows it to conform to any surface shape. This assures complete guitar-to-pickup-to-saddle contact. Unlike other under-saddle pickups, the NanoFlex design utilizes 7 highly-sensitive and ultra-responsive layers of sensor material to not only sense the vibrations of the strings but the vibrations of the guitar body as well. The NanoFlex is the first pickup to incorporate active amplification directly at the pickup. As a result, the signal does not pass through even a single millimeter of the wire and therefore, the signal quality is uncompromised

Gibson's classic J-200 style with eSonic2 electronics and generous cutaway.

I have been looking at this guitar for some time but was hesitant to get one. I had never played a jumbo before. I played a used one in my local guitar shop and liked it so much I ordered one from MF the next day! First thing you notice is the finish. Mine is the Vintage Sunburst and it is flawless... The way the color wraps around the guitar is stunning. It looks great from any angle.... Mine was setup perfectly. That is saying something! I like my Epiphones but most need work. This one is really nice. Plays very easy. It sounds great acoustic. Plenty loud. It really comes alive when plugged in! The electronics are amazing! From finger picking to hard strumming, it sounds fantastic! Line in a chorus pedal and magic happens! I am still getting used to the Jumbo size but it is over all very comfortable to play. It does jack your arm up a bit while sitting but you get used to it. I got this guitar to do acoustic gigs with my son. Very glad I did. This guitar is the whole package. Beautiful looks, great sound and great price! The only other Epi that I have played that was any better out of the box was the Masterbuilt. This Jumbo looks just as good or better, has the same electronics and is cheaper. I Am very happy with it!!!

I own several guitars -- a Martin D-35, a 1958 Martin 00 Classical, an Epi Les Paul, and a Fender Acoustic electric, and have played for about 40 years, professionally at one time, but now mainly as a hobbyist. When I need it, I play through a Peavy Delta Blues 210 amp, which is a great amp.I have always wanted a jet black acoustic guitar, and when I spotted the Epiphone EJ-200CE Acoustic - Electric, I thought I would give it a try. The first one arrived with a flaw on the 4th string tuner, so I sent it back for a replacement. The next guitar arrived OK, looks great, has a pretty big sound, not compared with my Martin D-35, but then this was about 1/4 the price, and I could use it for more knock-around purposes. I really like the sound I can get from tweaking the Esonic electronics, which really helps make up for a lack of much depth in the bass strings when I play through an amp. But after a couple months the fingering has developed a problem, and the 6th string won't play from the 5th to the 7th fret, it?s not just a buzz, it basically won?t play. I tried making small adjustments to the neck, but no change, that string is still dead in the middle of the neck. I am taking it to a guitar repair facility to see what they can do, but honestly, if I had it to do over again, I think I would throw in a few more dollars and buy a Gibson Songwriter Special or something similar with a bigger bass sound, and no neck/fret problems.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the guitar for you if you want something similar to the sound and feel of a Taylor but do not have the funds for the Taylor at this time. I was completely blown away by the feel and sound of this instrument. And it even plays better than some of the low end Taylors in my opinion.

Upon opening the box, I was blown away by the beauty and craftsmanship in the fit and finish. Solid maple back and sides. Spruce top Rosewood bridge and fingerboard. Out of the box,, it was playable, but I knew it could be better. The neck has a slight up bow. I turned the truss rod slightly to my right, facing down the neck from the headstock.. After playing a couple hours, I made another adjustment equal to the first. The neck has a slight relief and plays much better

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Nothing but good things to say here. This is an attractive and nice sounding instrument. Set up and ready to go paired in its matched case, it was great right out of the box. The guitar shines best if you have a finger picking style where strumming is OK but the warm Gibson like tone comes out best picking the instrument. The sound is a bit subdued for a jumbo where I would have expected a louder acoustic tone where this unit is more reserved. But once plugged in you can certainly enhance the EQ and level to taste. Though I prefer to buy US made and do own several including a Martin which I love. This guitar is a nice addition to my stage and practice line up. The electronics set up is a little different in that you can run the guitar stereo off the body with a second 1/4" jack and then you have three sound configuration selections much like an electric has. I prefer the blended position. The tuner works great and frankly I can't come up with any faults. I bought the matched case with the guitar which I would recommend and this is a proud addition to my acoustic line up. So all smiles here and as I have never bought a guitar un-tried through catalog order. I did find that all the positive reviews are well deserved. A good buy!

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought new. Finish was excellent. Electronics are great. I read so many great reviews that I needed to buy one. The tone unplugged is good but not great. A little thin sounding especially for a jumbo (compressed sound). Granted the guitar is cheap with laminate back and sides. If you spend a little more for a Masterbilt you get a much better tone. For its price it is great but it is not comparable to more expensive guitars.

The sunburst finish is awesome but the guitar never sounded good. The volume is very low for a jumbo and it had a buzz I could never get rid of. I adjusted the neck and tried different strings. I believe it had a high fret. I finally sold it.
