OVERVIEW

Gibson's classic J-200 style with eSonic2 electronics and generous cutaway.

Epiphone's version of the Gibson classic J-200, known as the "King of the Flat Tops", a guitar that has graced stages across the world in the hands of musical legends from Elvis to Emmylou. This modernized EJ-200SCE, features a jumbo maple body with a select spruce top, a stylish mustache bridge, gold hardware, crown inlays on the fingerboard, and a huge sound easily amplified by the an eSonic2 preamp with built-in tuner and NanoFlex/NanoMag pickups. Case sold separately.

A body full of grace
The EJ-200SCE's construction features a solid spruce top with select maple, back and sides and a striking cutaway that provides you better fret access than its predecessor. This 25.5" scale beauty also comes with Epiphone's SlimTaper select maple neck which helps give you a smoother ride up and down the rosewood fingerboard. The rosewood fingerboard has vintage style pearloid crown inlays and a 1.68" nut along with our iconic Sloped Dovewing Epiphone headstock with premium die-cast gold 14:1 tuners.

A fresh spin on classic tone
The tone from the EJ-200SCE's select maple top is enhanced by the classic rosewood "mustache" bridge and synthetic bone saddle. A tortoise-style pickguard with a unique dandelion art pattern helps round-out the EJ-200SCE's iconic look. Thanks to it's combination of tonewoods and construction, the EJ-200SCE provides you with a solid, yet balanced tone which lets rhythm guitarists and singer-songwriters feel like they're being backed up by a band even when they're playing a set pared down. The rich and complex tones the EJ-200SCE will truly inspire musicians everywhere over and over again.

Plug it in, plug it in
Taking the J-200 to whole new levels sonically, the EJ200CE features the Epiphone eSonic2 preamp system which features a built-in, easy-to-use tuner. And when you're playing, you don't have to worry about any accidental popping as the eSonic2 automatically mutes your output. When you push in the tuner button and unplug your guitar, it also keeps it "pop" free. The EJ-200SCE also provides you with tone-shaping options - NanoFlex Tone, NanoMag Tone, Stereo Blend - as well as Master Volume, and a Low Battery indicator and a Phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback. The eSonic2 is powered by two 2032 lithium watch batteries which are not only lightweight, but also last significantly longer life than more traditional, heavier 9V batteries.

Revolutionary stereo pickups
The EJ-200SCE features a compensated saddle with Shadow Germany's proprietary NanoFlex, low-impedance pickup. The NanoFlex's unique flexible sensing material has integrated active electronics that picks up string vibration as well as top and body vibrations for a truly acoustic tone without the harshness usually associated with piezos. As a compliment, there is a NanoMag pickup mounted at the harmonic-rich end of the fingerboard. It features three Samarian-Cobalt magnets and an integrated active circuit to capture all the highs and lows, including a wide range of harmonics. The preamp allows you to chose 1/4" mono output blending both pickups or 1/4" stereo output splitting the two pickups, giving you incredible flexibility and opportunities to create the perfect acoustic tone live.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select Black, Natural or Vintage Sunburst finish.

I own several guitars -- a Martin D-35, a 1958 Martin 00 Classical, an Epi Les Paul, and a Fender Acoustic electric, and have played for about 40 years, professionally at one time, but now mainly as a hobbyist. When I need it, I play through a Peavy Delta Blues 210 amp, which is a great amp.I have always wanted a jet black acoustic guitar, and when I spotted the Epiphone EJ-200CE Acoustic - Electric, I thought I would give it a try. The first one arrived with a flaw on the 4th string tuner, so I sent it back for a replacement. The next guitar arrived OK, looks great, has a pretty big sound, not compared with my Martin D-35, but then this was about 1/4 the price, and I could use it for more knock-around purposes. I really like the sound I can get from tweaking the Esonic electronics, which really helps make up for a lack of much depth in the bass strings when I play through an amp. But after a couple months the fingering has developed a problem, and the 6th string won't play from the 5th to the 7th fret, it?s not just a buzz, it basically won?t play. I tried making small adjustments to the neck, but no change, that string is still dead in the middle of the neck. I am taking it to a guitar repair facility to see what they can do, but honestly, if I had it to do over again, I think I would throw in a few more dollars and buy a Gibson Songwriter Special or something similar with a bigger bass sound, and no neck/fret problems.

Well pleased

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I read all the reviews, and was optimistic. I wanted a gig guitar with stage presence, convenient modern electronics, & an alternative voice to take over for my battle scarred Martin D15 that I want to preserve.
I was surprised how nice this ax looks in person the quality of fit & finish was above expectation. The sound is not as jumbo as the body suggests but the tone is nice, & the amplifier will make it as big as I need. My keyboard payer actually prefers the sound over my d15. That may be a bit over the top, but that's what he said.
The action & setup out of the box was also surprisingly good. I expect the sound quality to improve via the solid spruce top but even as is I can't imagine anyone being disappointed considering the price. I will probably install a bone nut & saddle, to improve sustain (although it's quite good as it is). I'm a tinkerer though, & like to customize my possessions if they warrant the effort, this guitar does.
It's not a complete solid tone wood guitar, but neither is the price. As others have said,"great bang for the buck".

not what it was represented to be

By britto71

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as an "open box" that was supposedly in "mint" condition. It came in the original packaging, with big, wide tape holding the box closed with the words "QA INSPECTED" printed on the tape. I opened the box, and it was packed securely in what appeared to be factory packaging, with the original literature enclosed. BUT.....when I unwrapped the guitar, it became painfully obvious the the guitar had not been quality checked at all. It was also obvious WHY the guitar was sent back buy the original buyer. The pickguard was scratched up, and the bridge was actually BROKEN! I read a lot of comments on this site with guys griping about an economy guitar not being of the same quality as a Taylor, or a Martin, or a Gibson.....to me, that is just frivolous, because an economy Epiphone is obviously not going to be of the same quality as a D45 Martin. But when someone tells you that "this guitar has been quality inspected" and it comes to you broken, somebody is BS'ing you! I knew, going into the deal that the guitar had been purchased, and sent back. I also admit that the price was reduced slightly from their regular price. BUT it will cost me at least that much to fix what is broken on the guitar. And i don't care that I can send it back......the point is, the guitar was NOT quality checked. It was stuck back in a box and re-sold BROKEN, while being advertised as "MINT CONDITON", which can only be said to be an itentional misrepresentation. Take my advice.....pay the full amount and get a new guitar. Or better yet, Buy from a store, so you can actually see the product before you buy it. Then you don't have to put your faith in someone's loose interpretation of the words "MINT" or "INSPECTED". This purchase is really disapointing, and not up to the usually very high standard set by Musicians Friend.

    1. SERVICE - Best. Very friendly, helpful support. 1st guitar had a loose jack, support talked me thru fix, but my hand was too big to access plug. They arranged quick free return and sent me a new guitar They also gave me a price break on the new one.
    2. GUITAR - Sounds awesome. Very full and bright, even without amp. Thru amp is really cool. What a deal for the price. Very happy

I've already made one review, but just had to make another. This guitar is SUPERB! I use it at Church, onstage, in our band & for solo performances. As soon as I take it out of the case wherever I am, I get attention immediately. I have the natural finished guitar & it is well worth every cent it costs & more. Thank you Epiphone/Gibson for such a great product.

This is the best and favorite of all my guitars!
My only regret is that Epiphone quit making EJ-200S and I want one. My EJ-200SCE sounds much better than my partner's $2000 Taylor Dreadnought.

I decided to do things I enjoyed during my early life again in retirement - "Senior Renaissance." The staff have been excellent in their personal touch and professionalism and I will definitely go back to this company for any future needs. Customer service is so appreciated and seldom found any more. I'm taking lessons again 50 years later and hope to do justice to this beautiful instrument.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

A fabulously beautiful guitar, wood grains, fit and finish-flawless. Let it sit for a couple hours, humidified house cold travel. Tuning, intonation dead on. Mine is the White Natural body color.
This is a huge guitar body, but comfortable and the neck is sweet. Perfect set-up. Playing it 5 days now on supplied strings... going to call Epi Support for recommended string specs. Have been changing electrics from Darco-25 years to David Gilmore GHs's. May stay with Darco PB 80/20 12's on first restringing of acoustic. Buy the case, you'll never find one and this is a fine instrument. You'll be glad you did. Epiphone is beating Gibson to pieces in my book. Value, workmanship, fit and finish, great new PU's, split coils, etc. Bought one Black Genesis on-sale, got it, played for 15 minutes and bought a Tobacco burst... plugged it in...all OK... back in it's Epi case... great guitar and split coil capable. The Ultra III is really being overlooked or under-advertised...amazing sound combo's from Nano and HB's---Play on...

Had this for a week before a fellow musician bought it from me on the spot. Immediately ordered another one. I've barely touched my solid body since I got this. Clear bass, almost jangly high end, great for rhythm in a band (and slide, too) or to accompany a solo singer. And it's nice to hear all the compliments on how great it looks!
