OVERVIEW

Gibson's classic J-200 style with eSonic2 electronics and generous cutaway.

Epiphone's EJ-200CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar offers all the playability, sound and style of the revered Gibson original at an easier price. A staple of stage and studio, the original Gibson model has been played by everyone from Elvis to Emmylou Harris and is a favorite among singer-songwriters. The Epiphone EJ-200C has a jumbo maple body with spruce top, traditional mustache bridge, gold hardware, and classic crown fretboard inlays. The onboard electronics make it plug-and-play-ready for the stage. Unplugged this jumbo box creates a big, tightly focused sound. The eSonic2 preampWhen you're ready to take the stage, the onboard eSonic 2 preamp will help you quickly dial in the robust acoustic tone of the EJ-200CE. It faithfully captures the guitar's rich harmonic range. A precision chromatic tuner with automatic muting helps keep your intonation dead-on and allows discrete onstage tuning. The muting feature also keeps things quiet when plugging and unplugging the EJ-200CE into an amp or PA. NanoFlex pickupThe term "NanoFlex" refers to its ultra thin (nano-like) profile and its flexibility that allows it to conform to any surface shape. This assures complete guitar-to-pickup-to-saddle contact. Unlike other under-saddle pickups, the NanoFlex design utilizes 7 highly-sensitive and ultra-responsive layers of sensor material to not only sense the vibrations of the strings but the vibrations of the guitar body as well. The NanoFlex is the first pickup to incorporate active amplification directly at the pickup. As a result, the signal does not pass through even a single millimeter of the wire and therefore, the signal quality is uncompromised

I have been looking at this guitar for some time but was hesitant to get one. I had never played a jumbo before. I played a used one in my local guitar shop and liked it so much I ordered one from MF the next day! First thing you notice is the finish. Mine is the Vintage Sunburst and it is flawless... The way the color wraps around the guitar is stunning. It looks great from any angle.... Mine was setup perfectly. That is saying something! I like my Epiphones but most need work. This one is really nice. Plays very easy. It sounds great acoustic. Plenty loud. It really comes alive when plugged in! The electronics are amazing! From finger picking to hard strumming, it sounds fantastic! Line in a chorus pedal and magic happens! I am still getting used to the Jumbo size but it is over all very comfortable to play. It does jack your arm up a bit while sitting but you get used to it. I got this guitar to do acoustic gigs with my son. Very glad I did. This guitar is the whole package. Beautiful looks, great sound and great price! The only other Epi that I have played that was any better out of the box was the Masterbuilt. This Jumbo looks just as good or better, has the same electronics and is cheaper. I Am very happy with it!!!

Neck needs setup, different strings. Nice guitar, looks great. Lowering action, makes it a nice guitar. Sounds ok.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar. Always wanted one and finally ordered one a few days ago. As soon as I got it I opened it, got familiar with it and turned on the tuner so I could tune up and play some. The tuner would come on, scan and the red light was constant. I never could get it to 'tune'. The indicator lights would not work so it never showed you which string you were playing or if it was high or low. I changed the batteries, still no luck. I called Tech service here and they suggested I call Gibson before I send it back. I called Gibson this morning and they said since the batteries weren't the problem it had to be a faulty tuner to send it back to MusiciansFriend. I am currently waiting on a return label for the box. In the meantime, I have no guitar to play. MusiciansFriend won't ship me a replacement until they get confirmation from UPS that this one is on it's way back! I guess I can see their point but to say the least I am VERY disappointed. I paid for a guitar that I don't have and won't have for a while yet.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I used to own a Gibson L5 Custom back in the early 70s. It's a very expensive guitar and when I first played my EJ200 I was amazed at the feel because it reminded me of the L5. I have had this EJ 200 for three weeks tomorrow and have yet to pick up my Martin D 28 or the 1970 Gibson ES 335 TD. I absolutely love this guitar!!!

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am an over the hill musician. I quit playing gigs years ago. I play only at church now and occasionally at nursing homes (provides an opportunity to pick out a future room). The guitar was supposedly blemished. I am still looking for the blemish, can't find any. I am very satisfied with Musicians Friend concerning the purchase and delivery. I rated it a four because I am very particular about my music and the sound. It is too early for me to rate the guitar itself as top line. I have been playing Yahama guitars for years now. When I did played professionally I was playing a Gibson 355 stereo which I still own however do not play anymore. The EJ 200 is absolutely beautiful however in brand new condition and any guitar needs a lot of playing time to take on the sound wanted by the person playing the instrument. Ask me a year from now and I may give it the fifth star.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-200SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got hooked on the J200 back in the early 1980's. My father-in-law had a Guild version of a J200,, you know, big rich full sound...booming lows, perfect mid-range, and crystal clear highs, all with plenty of natural volume. He also had a Crown J200 (Japanese made) with a terribly warped top. He passed away in '92 and I ended up with the Crown guitar. A guitar builder (and great friend) rebuilt it for me....Martin D28 top, custom rosewood bridge, elk bone saddle and nut, Grover tuning machines, re-finished fretboard, New medium frets, and topped off with a piezo under-saddle pickup. I wore out the neck twice and now on the verge of needing re-fretted again. My sons (who are in their 30's) are already fighting about who gets this guitar and I'm not even gone! I said all that to say this....if you can't afford (like I can't ) the "real" thing but you just gotta have that J200 because you love great acoustic guitar that has real class beginning with looks and ending with pure, beautiful, heart pounding sound...look no further. The Epiphone J200SCE has it all. My boys just found something else to argue about when it comes to who gets what when I'm gone. I've played a lot of different guitars over the years...from Guild, to Martin, to Gibson, to Taylor, and many in between. This guitar is as good as I've ever played or heard. I was in the music business for 20 years so I think that somewhat gives creedence to what I've said. And, a big shout-out to MF.....the BEST sales and service staff in the music business today..by far. Thanks guys!

This is the guitar for you if you want something similar to the sound and feel of a Taylor but do not have the funds for the Taylor at this time. I was completely blown away by the feel and sound of this instrument. And it even plays better than some of the low end Taylors in my opinion.
