OK, you can't tune this like a normal guitar. That's why the instructions tell you not to.

It won't stay in tune, because when the neck is so short, the strings need to be really loose to keep the same low pitch as a normal guitar. That's why the instructions say you're supposed to tune it up 3 half steps.

So, you can either tune it higher like they suggest, or you can use really thick strings.

I modded mine to have adjustable saddles, and then I put the thickest 6 strings from a 7-string pack on it (you need the adjustable saddles because the regular saddle isn't correct for a wound G, which is what you end up with with those strings). With those heavy gauges (13s), I can tune this guitar to regular pitch, and I've used it many times on stage in order to look like I'm a giant.

Is it a great guitar? No. But if you apply a little knowledge, you CAN get it to keep tune decently, which is what most of the complaints have been about.

You want something to stay in tune spend more Money, I have a Deluxe Fender Strat that has the hardest time staying in tune, 1st off most of these post are from kids just starting, I bought this for my daughter for x-mas and you get what you pay for, It's made of Plywood, The Pickup is decent and the scale of the guitar is part of the reason it does not stay in tune well, but if you stretch the strings good before going to town on it it stays in pretty good, I've been playing for 25 years and for a beginners setup it's perfect, this little package will make or break a beginning guitarist, If they really want to play they'll figure out how to get by with it, if not then they can burn it, all in all a good little starter kit and tuning is good practice, It's the 1st thing any beginner needs to learn before they can get into riffing chords,Scales, and Modes.

Seriously?!

This piece of trash may look cool, when you first look at it, but seriously?! When I played it into the amp it came with at my local guitar store, it sounded terrible.First of all, let's start off with those crappy tuners.............They feel and are so cheap, and gets out of tune in less then 30 seconds! That is not normal. Even a cheap Squier stays in tune better then this.Secondly, that single pickup. It sounds like trash. In clean mode it is bad, but in distortion mode, it is extremely bad. When I first looked at it, I was like "Oh cool!!!!!!! A Flying V for so cheap! I am trying it out and maybe going to buy it" I don't care if this flying v was free I wouldn't buy it. Thirdly, The neck. It is so uncomfortable. It felt like a hard piece of metal. Also, it is very hard to put this instrument on my lap, of course, like all Flying Vs. That's why I would buy a Les Paul PeeWee over this, and that is the same garbage too, maybe a bit better, but not much. Also, don't think that this is a beginner's guitar. A beginner's guitar is something that is decent and will stay in tune often! Do yourself a huge favour and do not buy this. I own a Gibson SG Classic and a Squier Stratocaster. Comparing this crap to my squier is very embarassing. At least the Squier stays in tune!Overall, this is a great project guitar, but a terrible stock guitar. Also, don't think because it says Gibson on headstock that is a great guitar. It is an Epiphone, one of the worst guitars I have ever tried in my life. Terrible, absolutely terrible.

Not Worth It

By DudeGuy-ZIn1h

This guitar is great for collecting things but it is horrible to play. When I bought this I thought it was something that you could least play for ten minutes in tune but you couldn't play at all. It is a cool collecting item but not worth the price.

This thing is pure garbage. My nephew, age 9, bought one thinking, I could teach him to play on this garbage. I have played for over 30 years and this thing totally sucks! Would not stay in tune for more than about 15 seconds and sounds really bad. We bought him a Squier Strat pack and the axe is pretty decent and the amp is fine for a beginner. You get what you pay for and it amazes me that Gibson put their name on this trash.

this guitar is god

By MrWinkles

I used this guitar on tour with Metallica and it rocks! I can play anything with this bad boy. It?s better than all my Gibson les Paul?s. The reason I gave this 5 stars overall is because once I dropped it on my cat and he died. Awe poor Mr. Winkles. If you don?t own a cat I suggest buying this guitar!

its okay....

If you spend a little more money on this thing it isnt that bad at all.. first off, you need new tuners ... the sock tuners just wond hold a tune for more than an hour of consistand play. Second, have the frets done, well, mine needed to be redone. But now it's flipping awesome!! The amp is okay... but I tossed it.. lol no need. And the pick up isn't all the bad but I switched to some emg's I had laying around... But really though... you get what you pay for.

Very Cool Guitar Package

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I tried this little thing, and at first I was laughing at it. Then I played it. This is a cool guitar, and I would recommend it to anyone who travels alot, or is a beginner on a budget. Put portability isn't the only plus; this guitar sounds pretty good, for it's price. The amp has some cool distortion, which I didn't expect. Though not too easy to play, it's great for the price. Oh, and looks cool too.

I dont own this guitar, but I played it once at a friends house. Before I saw it in person, I knew itd be small, but wow-- it really is small! It plays well, the time that i used it anyway. kind of hard to keep in tune though. I suggest the suggestion for tuning they have up. I hope to be buying one of my own soon, maybe as a birthday present for myself (teenager-15 yr old) and if youre considering it, go for it. This is just my opinion. It's a good travel. I own a number of guitars and none are as small, but ive wanted a travel guitar for a while now and the one that really pops out at me is the vee wee...so again, go for it!
