Once again. Because of the price, and the ease of chording. This guitar stands at the top with others in this price range. The looks of it is a work of art, and they even have one in a tobacco burst if thats your thing. Keep in mind that this needs a good case/gig bag, and one is not included. Because it plays so well, if I were going to be taking it all around town I would invest in a good gig bag or hardshell case. This is a guitar worth keeping in nice condition, and without a good bag you won't be able to do that. This may not work for you, but give it a try any way.
I really wasn't sure how to rate this area, since there were many in the same price range that could also be played as an electric. My review is based on an accoustic guitar, and nothing else.
My Grandson decided he wanted to learn to play the guitar, and since I can play and he can't. It was my job to find the best acoustic within this price range, so I remembered how much my fingers hurt on the Martin D-18 my Dad taught me on. While there is no way from needing the tips of your fingers being nub while learning to play, you can make it a little better on the student with a guitar that doesn't kill your fingers when you play. As I set in the acoustic guitar room, I had 6 guitars around me that I had tried. An Ibanez, Fender, Takamime, Yamaha, and then I saw this Epiphone. To be honest, I thought it would be blown away by one of the other models. Since all of my guitars are much higher end in cost, and I only have one acoustic. I'm used to playing the top dollar models, and after playing a few of these, I saw why. However, when I played this Epiphone I couldn't believe the ease of play and sound. In order to see if I was right, I asked a few guitar players to pick each guitar and tell me their thoughts. Keep in mind that I didn't tell them my thoughts, nor which guitar I liked the best. In order to have a full amount of reviews in different age catagories. I had 3 good playing pickers below the age of 20, then a couple more in my age category, which is over 55. Each one of them picked out this Epiphone. The only downside, and I don't see it as one. If your looking for a guitar with a eletric input switch, this doesn't have it. Having a recording studio, never do I record an acoustic over an amp unless the song calls for it. I always mic the acoustic with a phantom power mic so I can get true acoustic sound.
This is a great guitar for the money, and the only reason I didn't give it a nothing is perfect. Nevertheless, for the price this is as close to perfection as your going to get. In order to establish my credibility. I have 2 Fender Strats (Jimmy Vaughn & American Deluxe), Fender American Deluxe Telecaster, Gibson LP Classic and double cut-away, Gibson ES-335, a pre China made Epiphone with mini humbuckers, and a PRS McCarty. I think I'm pretty well qualified to review how a guitar plays. If your wanting a lower end guitar with a higher quality sound, look no further. It played so much better than both the Fender and Ibanez, and only the Takamime came close to it.

Nice guitar but not great. Overall construction is good. Get a lot of compliments on the color, etc. Ya got to admit the cherry sunburst and embellished pick guard does make for a nice looking guitar.

When I put it in to be setup the overall construction was pretty good except for 3 high frets that were fixed easily for 35 bucks. I found this guitar stays in tune pretty well also.

The strings that came on it are terrible, trebly and twangy. Put Martin FX130 custom light strings on it and it got a much more favorable rich sound but a tiny bit of fret buzz. Went to Martin SP7100 (12) strings and now its perfect for practice and jamming with a buddy that plays a pretty mean harp.

I just picked up a Martin DX1RAE and of course there is no comparison in construction nor sound/tone so if I were to look at this purchase with the old 20/20 hindsight I would save my money on the Epi Hummingbird and throw it into a nice Martin.

Seriously.....This guitar blew me away!!! I own a Martin 00028EC, Taylor 314CE, and a couple of others, and I would say that I enjoy playing this acoustic every bit as much as all my other guitars. I find myself playing if actually more then I play my others. The action is set up perfectly right out of the box and the sound is incredible. I couldn't believe it. What a deal for the price!!
Believe me...You won't be sorry buying this guitar.
I have played in bands almost 30 years and I absolutely love this guitar.

Much success!!

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased a hummingbird after looking at them for a long time. I own a few high dollar guitars and some low end (budget) guitars also. I like the setup on this guitar. The action is nice and low, but not low enough to buzz, and the sound is very nice also. Seems to play very easily for me. The cherry sunburst has always been an eye catcher for me. I would see one from a distance and have to take a closer look. This one attracted me in the same way. Just looks and plays great.

Great Guitar

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I've been playing for over 30 years, sometimes for money somtimes for fun. Right out of the box this guitar was ready to play with just a little tuning. I have played and owned many brands. I purchased this Hummingbird and to my surprize it plays as good as my Gibsons J45. This guitar has a very nice sound and easy to play. It could be used from beginer to pro.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I was honestly shocked when I recieved my Hummingbird Acoustic. I have had it for a week and play it every day. I can't seem to put it down. ( A little of my backgound: I have played in bands for over 30 years and currently own Martin, Taylor and Takaminine acoustics and several Fender Strats.) I just felt like having something I could plunk around on that wasn't real expensive so I purchased this acoustic. WHAT a SURPRIZE!!! For the money, this is the best made guitar I have found! The action is great and it stays in tune and the sound is nice and deep without losing any highs. I can't seem to put this guitar down. I HIGHLY recommend this guitar. I PROMISE...you can't go wrong.
The quality you get for this price is unbelievable.

You get a 45/45 guarantee. Musicians friend will not be beat on the price and you can return it if it's not right! BUY THE GUITAR
I have owned Yamaha, Hohner, and Fender guitars. Each had their own sound and spirit, and I have no regrets about any of them. HOWEVER.....my Hummingbird was my first brand new guitar. My two buddies own Simon Patrick and Metcalf guitars (look those names up and see just what kind of quality they are!)......and both tell me they like the looks of mine better! I'm not exactly Garth Brooks, but I can guarantee you that this is one purchase you'll never regret. STOP THINKING. BUY THIS GUITAR RIGHT NOW AND FALL IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

The structure of the Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar produces a rich, full sound, and the color combination is beautiful. If there is any thing I didn't like it was that the location of the strap buttons do not allow the guitar to remain balanced and the headstock drops straight down if not holding the neck. But, I would recommend this guitar for anyone, from beginners like me to the pros.
When I first wanted to order the Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar it was not yet in stock, so ordered the Epiphone Limited Edition Hummingbird Artist because I didn't want to wait, but then changed my mind and exchanged it for the Hummingbird as soon as I received it. I am really glad I did. I love the Hummingbird. Right out of the box it blew me away for it's beauty, volume and tone. I have only owned a low cost beginner guitar before this, so can't compare it to other better guitars, but I couldn't be more satisfied with it. All of my family, many of whom own and play guitar, have been very impressed with my choice of the Hummingbird. All of my experiences in dealing with Musician's Friend have been pleasent for the value and service.
The structure and appearance of the Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar is of outstanding quality.
The value for the cost is fantastic. The cost allowed me to get a quality instrument at a price I could afford.

Great Guitar for The Price...

By Dan Pereira

from U.S.A.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar because I wanted an inexpensive go-to guitar for songwriting. Turns out I've been using it for recording, sounds great mic'd up, and plays really well too. It's got a lot of character and warmth in its tone. Sometimes it's hit and miss with inexpensive, foreign-built guitars but this one is a definate hit.
Nice bridge, tuners, inlays, and bindngs. I also like the strap pegs that allow a normal guitar strap to be used instead of an accoustic strap.
The guitar seams sturdy, action is divine with no buzzing or dead notes.
I would expect to pay much more for a guitar like this. It's a great value.

A Beautiful Instrument

By Matt Lindquist

from SLC, UT

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I just got this guitar last week, and let me tell you if you are in the market for something that is affordable but professional and a collectors piece, this is the best bang for your buck!!! Its got grover tuners which alone make it sweet plus the picture does not do the guitar justice at all. Its solid spruce with solid mahogony back and sides and that alone makes the tone of this perfect! I bought this to learn on and I am so stoked on it. Everyone who has played it is in love with it and jealous that its mine and don't hesitate at all, just buy it. Trust me you won't be let down!!!

Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar by Epiphone

By Gerald Ely

from Michigan

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

If you want a beautiful hummingbird guitar Epiphone makes an affordable unit but if you have lots of money get the World famous Gibson.
This is truly a beautiful guitar I got the Heritage Cherry Sunburst. I purchased this guitar for my granddaughter, for her up coming birthday. The guitar sounded pretty good right out of the box but it had high pitched tinny sound, so I replaced the strings and that sweetened up the tone.
This Epiphone Hummingbird was made in China and set-up in the USA. The nut is to high on the Low E side the High E side is perfect. So I will have to take this guitar in to have aprofessional set-up the action so the guitar is playable.
Compared to my favorite guitar my Hohner HW-300 series it is no match in sound quality but in looks there is no comparison, the Hummingbird is pretty and it will look good on my granddaughter.

More than what you pay for

By Rodrigo Cotelo

from Montevideo, Uruguay

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

You can't be mistaken investing on this instrument for the price you're paying, you get a lot more value.
Grover Tuners themselves are 100 bucks when upgrading your guitar, That itself makes it keep on pitch as a way more expensive guitar.
Other than some razor sharp edges on the bridge this baby sounds like a pro instrument worth 10 times what you pay for.
Great overall instrument for both a pro requiring a robust option B or for a begginer that won't change that guitar for the rest of their lifes.

a future heirloom...

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

Years ago, an ex-girlfriend loaned me her 1972 Gibson Hummingbird--best acoustic guitar sound, ever. Period. I've been searching for that sound ever since, but have lacked the cash to procure it. Rather than waste money on a pretty good but boring acoustic, I've been playing a junker-Takamine for years searching for that Hummingbird sound in an affordable package. I read up on Epiphone's model and went down to the local guitar shop to see if the hype was justified. It's no vintage Gibson, but by Jove, the tone is there--warm, smooth, velvety acoustic tone. With proper playing and aging, this guitar will sound absolutely top notch. A comparable Gibson Hummingbird will cost you thousands. A low end Martin dreadnought will still cost you hundreds more and sounds pathetic in comparison (not to mention questionable workmanship). I've searched for a long time--this is the best acoustic guitar for the money, hands down.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I like the sound and the craftmanship of this guitar
I recieved my Hummingbird on time and undamaged. I like the look and the weight of the grover tuners. They keep the guitar in tune and have a nice feel to them when tuning. The rich colors of the Heritage Cherry Sunburst and hummingbird pickguard give it a lot of eye appeal. The workmanship and fit & finish of the guitar is well worth the price of the guitar. The action is only slightly high and have decided to leave as is. This guitar has a very bright sound and the longest sustain of any of my guitars. Like everybody else I put on some new strings that were more to my liking. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a inexpensive quality guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I've read reviews from people who say this guitar sounds as good as the Gibson
version. It does not. However, it does sound much better than the difference in
price would indicate. This is an excellent choice for the price. Good enough to
take places where I don't want to take my Martin.

By JOSH WOLFE

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

Overall, this is the best guitar for the money, you can get great craftsmen ship for a fraction of the price.
I have wanted one of these guitars for a long time so when i could finally get my hands one i did. Let me tell you it was well worth the wait. Right out of the box the intonation and action were right on. The fret board is fast and clean which makes chording a breeze. The tone is warm and full and i am sure will only get better over time. The finish is georgeous, not one minor flaw or blemish, the pictures really dont do it any justice whatsoever. I have played a lot of guitars over the years and this is the one that stands out above all the rest. Now im sure the Gibson is 100 times better but coming up with that kinda dough just wasn't going to happen. As far as im concerned, this is the best guitar anyone, beginner or old school pro, could purchase.
Wonderfull, eveything was perfect, only had to tune her up.
Can not beat it, the amount of guitar you get for the price is just unreal.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I recently bought this ebony Epiphone Hummingbird. I had been looking at the cherry sunburst for quite a while and when the ebony came out it was a done deal. The sound quality of this guitar is really warm, rich and full. It sounds great for ally types of music whether it be classic rock, blues or country. It comes with the Gibson Masterbuilt strings on it which really give it that full sound. The finish on my guitar is flawless and really polishes up nice. This is really a good looking guitar. The chrome Grover tuners really seem to keep the guitar in tune most of the time. I have had other acoustics that it seemed like I was tuning all the time. I have an ebony epiphone Les Paul that I have really been pleased with also. My recommendation is buy this guitar. You will love it! Great deal for the price. I give this guitar a solid 9 out of 10. Which is always the highest rating I will give on anything.

Great guitar for songwriters.

By Eric Connolly

from Montana

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

The solid construction with vocally tuned design of the Epiphone Hummingbird give it solid playability as well as great tonal quality. For the price, it is hard to beat this guitar. I've been playing it as my "daily" instrument (for songwriting and playing) for 4 years, and it has aged beautifully. The bright and clean tone also makes for a great recorded sound, especially for recording scratch tracks. If you don't have the budget for it's Gibson-made big brother, this guitar will not disappoint.

Only complaint, the "chrome hardware" has needed some repair, albeit after about 3 years of use.
