OVERVIEW

A country/rock classic in elegant black.

This model shares all of the same features and specs as the standard Hummingbird PRO except for its distinctive black finish.

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

I'm a Rolling Stones fan and won't shell out for a Gibson at this time. When I saw this guitar, I had just (the day before) ordered the Epiphone Hummingbird Cherry. I then turned on a movie I wouldn't normally watch, Yes Man, starring Jim Carrey. At the moment I turned the movie on, Jim started playing this limited edition Hummingbird. I loved it and cancelled the Cherry.

-2 stars because even though I love Epiphone Hummingbirds I have a few models as well as the Pro Dove they all have a spruce top but these Black ones don't have that same sining resonating tone imo it's maybe the paint is to thick & the clear coat is chocking damping the sound board. Epiphone needs to make sure the paint is applied lightly the natural & stain have much richer tones that the Black painted ones. Now live it wouldn't matter as much using the Pickup system but for small venues where it will be heard acoustically & recording w/nice mics it comes up short to the Artist Hummingbirds that are less than half the price.IMO because of thee thick coat of paint & clear. Bit it wouldn't be heard thru the PA so it looks great!!!

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My Ebony Hummingbird arrived today. I ordered it when it was on sale for and expected it to be back ordered until mid-August. Somehow, Musicans Friend found a new one and shipped it to me. That's excellent service. About the guitar itself, first the bad. There's a pretty substantial. flaw in the paint right on the top. It's like a dull spot that's about 2.5 inches long by .5 inches wide right in the spot where your right arm lays against the body. Hopefully, over time this will polish out. Other then that, fit and finish are fantastic. Well except for one other thing... The pick guard while fairly well executed and engraved is pretty much paper thin (maybe 1/32 inch thick). I would have liked to have seen it be at least two ply given and even better 3 ply. However, it is what it is. The action is very much to my liking, but with the guitar unplugged and finger picking, it doesn't project very well and is whisper quiet for a Dread. Maybe it's the strings, I'm not sure but it could definitely be louder and more defined string to string. With that said, when you be sure tighten that pin jack up and then plug it in (you'll find the jack slightly loose, but hand tightening will fix) - then this guitar comes alive and will show you it's true heart. True to the blues/country/rock heritage - buy this guitar if you are looking for that experience. I was and with minor complaints am a very satisfied customer.

Comments about Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have really enjoyed this guitar. It plays well out of the box and has a nice natural and amplified sound. The playability factor is solid performance. There are times when I do not want to drag the more expensive Gibson's or Fender's out, but I want a good sound for the sit in jam nights. This guitar plays all styles and fits my voice well. I use a VE-8 and GoRack and I have a gteat sound.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I played this Guitar in the sixties, it replaced the Walden I was playing, the Walden dried out. Now when did I get the Hummingbird, while I was writing / recording the album, 'Rod Stewart', you know the one with 'Maggie May'. I you listen to the album you should be able to hear the difference, the Walden retired and the Hummingbird brought in. Just like with the album 'Fleet', now called 'Fleetwood Mac'. My voice broke while I was writing / recording that one. My voice went through Puberty, there was a weeks plus delay in me completing that album, You want to check it out. Listen to 'Heart', I wrote / recorded that album before 'Fleet' and to 'Fleet'. In 'Fleet'' my voice is like in 'Heart' in a few songs, the rest, the voice is different, it went through puberty and sounds different on most of the album. Ask Barbara Striestand, she might remember talking to me about my voice. Voice lessons might help. Anywany EP said they come out with the Dove in time... and they did.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone Hummingbird Pro is an unbelievable guitar at this price point. The high mark-up on Gibson's brand must help subsidize the incredibly affordable pricing on the Epiphone line. This black Hummingbird Pro is visually stunning - gorgeous pickguard, black sheen on the body with white binding on the body and neck, Grover tuners, great feel, a joy to play. The sound has a little twang to it which lends itself nicely to country and country rock. Great sustain and slide playing will stand out nicely in the mix also. What's most amazing at this price is that it is an acoustic-electric. Wow! And strap button already installed. This guitar not only is ready to play on stage but will look great up in the spotlight. Add Epiphone's limited lifetime warranty and what's not to like? This guitar is a winner all the way around.

I got this over the memorial day weekend sale. Great guitar for the money . I owned a 2004 Taylor 310
This is not that but it also is not 1700 and broken in. I play through a loud box plugged in to a PA and it has a nice piano sound. the guitar is all wood with a solid spruce top and all guitar new wood needs time to cure. 5 years. I can tell this is will be even better in time. I have played out for years and no problem taking this out.
