Comments about Epiphone Jeff Waters Annihilation-V Electric Guitar:
Literally nothing bad was found on this guitar. For the price, you get an amazing playing and sounding guitar.
First off, I was a little skeptical about the Phenolic fretboard, but it's actually a great sounding and fast playing fretboard. It also looks great with the guitar, especially with the Pitch Black finish (the finish I bought).
This guitar will definitely turn heads. It's very comfortable to play sitting or standing, and is a pretty nice weight. Your back won't be hurting after carrying it for long periods of time
Regarding the pickups, you can coil split them, and Jeff Waters designed them to be in his words, "almost blues sounding" and he is right. These are not super hot pickups like EMGs. They sound awesome through my Blackstar HT Club 40 with the gain around 2 o'clock and a Boss DS-1 with the level and distortion at 12 o'clock with the tone all the way down. Kinda specific, but this is what I run the guitar through and it sounds incredible.
Notes are very clear, and fast, thrashy riffs can be heard with ease without any mush.
Leads cut through without any harshness, and Jeff Waters was right when he said you'll sound awesome if you nail a solo, but if you make a mistake, it's quite noticeable. For me anyway :)
All in all, I love this guitar. I use it to jam at home, with my friends, and someday hope to take it on stage.
Check out this guitar, I bet you'll love it.
Also, the killswitch is a nice touch.
Comments about Epiphone Jeff Waters Annihilation-V Electric Guitar:
I highly recommend this guitar for any guitar player looking for that perfect, low cost guitar to play metal or hard rock. This thing can pull of some really nice clean tones as well but the look of it screams METAL! It is great in the studio and out live. Jeff Waters has personally even gone on a guitar clinic tour showing off this guitar and I have talked to many other guitar players who also own it. Not a single one has regretted buying it!
This guitar has an extremely comfortable neck. It's a bit more flatter than normal flying v necks and just makes it really easy to play. The fretboard is a little weird. It's a phenolic fretboard which actually sounds suprisingly good and plays really fast. The neck is made of mahogany along with the body. The pickups are Jeff Water's custom JWT and JWR pickups. They sound very clean yet aggressive. There are no tone controls and only one volume knob but it doesn't need the rest. It's a very simple design that works and also includes a nice killswitch for added effect as well as coil tapping for a more twangier sound. It also has some nice Grover tuners which can stay in tune pretty well.
I have never played such a perfectly crafted Flying V before and I own 3 others. It felt like a lot of effort and care was taken to make this guitar. It sounds fantastic and I personally think that Epiphone should make this guitar a permanent model for years to come. Jeff Waters and Epiphone truly crafted a masterpiece aimed for metal. This guitar doesn't even seem like it should be branded "Epiphone". More like a true Gibson.
For the price, this thing is well worth it. I have tried out alleged "higher-end" models and they were no where near the quality of this baby. I don't think you will need any other Flying V guitar with this thing in your hands unless you want some sort of tremolo bridge. Other than that, this thing will get you through thick and thin.
