Bought the cherry burst LP-100 4+ years ago, and it was my first electric. The frets were rough, with some buzzing, and I never liked the tone with the stock Epi PUs. About a year ago I started some mods for both looks and tone. Got rid of the creme pick guard and swapped the creme accents for black. Swapped out the muddy stock PUs for a set of GFS Vintage 59s (very cheap and worth the investment) and it now sounds awesome. Swapped the LP-100 truss cover for a stylish Epiphone "E" cover, not because I'm hiding it being an LP-100 (will tell anyone who asks about it), but because I hot-rodded it. Had a tech do the work, along with a fret dressing, and it now feels as good as it sounds. If you buy this for a kid/beginner and invest a little, he or she could play this for years. Really a very decent guitar for the money and fun to mod/personalize.

The best thing about this guitar is the reputation of an lp. Despite the dot inlays on the neck, and the epiphone headstock, this guitar looks just as sweet as a classic paul. The price though, tells you clearly that it isn't.The mojor short comings on this guitar are it's pickups, and it's hardware. The pickups aren't great. The tone they produce is kind of thin without any effects on it. Playing this guitar clean is dissappointing, and no where near the sweetness of a gibson of any price range. This is easily fixed with the installation of gibson pickups ( 490r and 498t alnico like in the supreme lp model or '57 classics rec.) though that will set you back a bit.A much quicker and also highly beneficial fix would be to add new tuners. Grovers are industry standard and are also used on gibsons. The standard tuners on this guitar fall short of keeping intonation. On mine, the strings were out of tune just about as soon as I put it down. easy fix. Overall, this is a good guitar for the money, especially for a begginner who won't require more and may not notice the difference. And when the guitar's initial tone is outgrown, it's a much smaller amount of money to upgrade this guitar than it would be to buy a newer and better one.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul 100 Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for a student I'm teaching. It's worth every penny I paid. If you are learning and want your first electric guitar I'd recommend it. You can't expect a 200 guitar to have the finish of a 5000 one. That's why I kept it without sending it back. I do recommend it to any beginner.

A real "fake" Les Paul for this price???? YES!!!!!
Ok, so my guitarist laughed at this purchase. But if you are like me, a keyboard player who always wanted to play guitar, you just can't go wrong! I'll never be a Jimmy Page but I COULD be a Malcolm Young IF I practice enough. But the feel and the playability of this guitar is GREAT! I use it through a Vox amp with a nice Korg effects pedal and I'm able to contribute to a few Neil Young and Cream songs right off the bat. Guitar will never be my main instrument, but for me; this is a joy to hold and play. Plus I have always liked the sound of Epiphones, regardless what the experts tell me! Get one, you won't be disappointed!

Just got mine yesterday in the sunburst and it's beautiful ... Love the sound , the feel,
The action ... And of course " The Tone " come on its a Les Paul ... Gibson quality control .. Just not the Gibson price ... If your a die hard Fender person then this is not for you .The only thing I'm changing are the strings . I like a lighter gauge ...

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul 100 Electric Guitar:

I have to admit, I was skeptical at first buying a "low end" instrument. But after picking up this guitar and just playing without being plugged in, I knew it would sound great with an amp. I was right. This guitar has a very warm, deep tone, but yet balanced with treble tone. I play though a Fender Mustang I, so I am able to play it with a "slew" of different sounds.

The action was perfect right out of the box and needed no adjustment. I did, however, change the strings right off. Matter of fact, I ordered strings when I ordered the guitar "just in case" the strings didn't sound and feel to my preference.

I also own a Mexican Fender Telecaster, so I am able to play one then the other. The quality of this Epi is right on par with the quality of my Fender, in my opinion. It also feels to be lighter.

I have been playing guitar (mainly acoustic) for 13 years, and even though I am not a professional musician, I do consider myself to be and intermediate player. So if you are looking for an affordable Les Paul, this guitar is the one to choose.

I would have given this guitar a 5 star rating, but I ordered a factory restock so the guitar came with a small scratch on the back of the neck, which I expected.

not what its hyped to be ..6 months earlier i bought a competitors l.p copy for much less..and used. with binding, sunburst finish-- covered pick ups etc. for half put new tuners and heavier strings she purrs like a wild cat feels great and sounds like what i call steel and glass (the lp sound.) so i says to myself, if this so called cheap copy that rhymes with (play thurser)sounds this good the epiphone from m.f. gotta sound better right ....Not... now side by side cant tell much difference.. and actually i like the sound from my used one better and it looks better.sounds better and feels better. the black gloss looks nice contrasted with the cream p.u rings and pick guard but i didnt buy it for looks alone .. the epi body is about 3/8 thinner,so i guess it is lighter but im from detroit bigger is better.. and no binding although i knew that.. the so called non rotating input feature is non existant in mine . loose from the git go. the action is so low i cant use e-flat tuning as i do on most of my axes. and after paying what i did im not gonna put another xxx into it for a set up ..... so like i said i think im gonna sell it sooner or later and stay with my used (play thurser)..ive read most reviews of this product and im confused ..but i bet most dont have a side by side guitars to compare ...

Well, to start off, i have the epiphone Les Paul special and have no complaints on that guitar. I think this Les Paul 100 is the one step upgrade to the one i have. Epiphone makes very good products no matter what guitar they make. I like the sound and feel of them all. Good job and just as good as a gibson in my way of thinking.
