Overall an excellent guitar for a beginner or someone looking for a base for a project. Good quality, and good tone for the price. If you can put together a few more bucks I would go with an SGR by Schecter, but you really can't go wrong with the Epiphone Les Paul Junior.
Not much as as far as features. One pickup, volume and tone pots, tuners. Its about as simple as a guitar can get, but its expected in this price range.
For the amount of money you pay, the EpI LP Jr. is built very well. Bolt on neck, very sturdy. Very reliable. The only fault I found here are the tuners, where there is much more to be desired. I suggest replacing them soon after purchase.
This is where it really shines. There is no better new guitar for under $150 out there. The only thing that competes is the Squier Stratocaster, which I find to be pretty lifeless. The LP Jr has some "umph" to it, coming from its single humbucker. Some might argue that since there is only one pickup, the range of tone is lacking. The tone knob is very useable and you can dial in different tones using the EQ on your amplifier.

I am a rather new guitarist myself and after playing a lot for 60 days, I have noticed different things about this guitar.

Good:
Very simple design and very lightweight! It is definitely fun to play and the lightweight feel to it makes it easy to practice or jam out. The pick up sounds very good for just being 1 pick up.

Bad:
Tuners are really subpar in design. I noticed the mount screws that hold the tuners come loose frequently and the knobs feel loose. I have to check my tune regularly because of this. I also picked up a low E fret buzz with this guitar.

Over all, it isnt a bad guitar but the tuners are the big headache. If you dont mind checking your tune after a couple of songs, this guitar may work for you as a starter.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I've used this thing for 3 years as my workhorse. It was really my go-to guitar for the reasons that the neck was perfect, it's cheap(so I don't feel bad when i beat the crud out of it), and it tunes up quick. The high output sounds appealed to me a lot. I played in a loud rock band, so with the high gain and loud volume it excelled. But what really shocked me was its versatility. It could go clean and play at lower outputs. This is also a modifiers dream. I installed a Kill Switch in replace of the tone knob. I plan on installing a neck pickup and a selector switch along with a nice new paint job.

I bought one for my stepson at Christmas and wasn't expecting much considering the price. Out of the box was as expected but after going over every nut and screw this little axe came to life. It's not like playing a vintage guitar but for a first one this thing fits the bill

I've always been a Fender guy myself, but I love the looks of this guitar. I bought one for cheap from a friend a few weeks ago, and it is without a doubt my new favorite instrument. The pickup on mine was swapped out, so I cant comment on the tone unless you upgrade, but it is definitely worth it to. The neck is smaller than a Fender, which I really like, and the tuners stay in tune very well. All around great instrument to own. I'd recommend it to anyone

This guitar really only does one thing, but it does it very well! Single pickup has limited tones but distorts easily and has great lead tones. Great for power chords and screaming rock solos. Neck feels good and is easy to play. In spite of the almost non-adjustable bridge it tunes up nicely. I bought it because it was cheap (very cheap) just to fool around with, but now I use it on stage and I love it! Well worth the money.
