Overall an excellent guitar for a beginner or someone looking for a base for a project. Good quality, and good tone for the price. If you can put together a few more bucks I would go with an SGR by Schecter, but you really can't go wrong with the Epiphone Les Paul Junior.
Not much as as far as features. One pickup, volume and tone pots, tuners. Its about as simple as a guitar can get, but its expected in this price range.
For the amount of money you pay, the EpI LP Jr. is built very well. Bolt on neck, very sturdy. Very reliable. The only fault I found here are the tuners, where there is much more to be desired. I suggest replacing them soon after purchase.
This is where it really shines. There is no better new guitar for under $150 out there. The only thing that competes is the Squier Stratocaster, which I find to be pretty lifeless. The LP Jr has some "umph" to it, coming from its single humbucker. Some might argue that since there is only one pickup, the range of tone is lacking. The tone knob is very useable and you can dial in different tones using the EQ on your amplifier.

At my local guitar store, I wanted to try a cheap guitar, just for fun. The salesman gave me the Epiphone LP junior. It is cool looking, though. I plugged it into a Roland Cube 60 and there is very bad news. The tuners!!!! They are so bad, and feel so sloppy and cheap, that they get out of tune every minute! The sound from that single pickup is so bad. It doesn't even sound like a guitar......It sounds like a harp or even a violin or something like that. Also, the craftsmanship is not good either. The materials feel extremely cheap and is so hard to slide around the neck. It is not meant for soloing. This guitar is very uncomfortable and put it down after a couple of minutes because I couldn't take how bad it was. The frets are extremely sharp, and it hurts and got a cut when I tried to slide my finger down the neck. It was kind of impossible to do that. Everything is not good about this guitar. It is not even a beginner's guitar. It is a guitar that you keep on the wall after playing it for a couple of minutes. If you want a beginner's guitar, get something that will stay in tune! This does not. It is not a good guitar at all. I am not impressed. Comparing this to my Gibson SG is actually funny lol and the gibson lp junior, the higher quality LP Junior.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar about 4 years ago when it came with the small amp, guitar case, and the guitar itself. I am a beginner myself, and I am once again attempting to play. However, it has been less than a week and I can already tell that this guitar was worth the money that I spent so long ago. It has a great feel, it is lightweight, and is just an all around great guitar for a starter. Spending more money on a guitar for someone at the starter level just wouldn't be a smart idea when there is this cheap yet valuable guitar. It sounds great even with the small amp that it came with, and I am anxious to continue playing with this piece. Definitely pick this guitar up if you are looking to start playing.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I got one of these guitars used in a trade. When I got it, it was fretting out on the high E string. I leveled and crowned the frets, installed Ernie Ball Cobalt strings and this baby has become my favorite guitar! I recently bought a "real" Les Paul and I was thouroghly disguted with the Les Paul. This Junior is a much better guitar. I highly recommend it for rock and metal. The lack of a neck pickup hinders it for being used in less gain scenarios, but for what it is meant for, it does it's job as well as very expensive guitars of this type. I recommend it!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

Got this for Christmas 2012 as I wanted something to tune open for slide. Got the sunburst finish which, when you see it, is unbelievable.Plays really well and didn't have to do much setup other than change strings. The stock ones were horrible. Thought what the heck and took it to the first gig this year.Tonight will be the fifth straight gig with it.Growls beautifully but turn back the volume a smidge and it cleans right up.Turn back the tone knob and it mellows it right out.Never did get to tune it open and play slide but I will. I have always been a Gibson player and just loved having Gibson on the headstock. Two years ago I bought the epiphone 58 flying V and thought I'm spending a lot less money and getting a really good guitar but was a little leary of the Juinor. I mean c'mon I paid about the same for my starter guitar way back in 64 and It was'nt this nice. I don't know what pickup they put in this thing but It just screams. I have been playing classic rock before it was classic. about 45 years and have had all kinds of Gibsons,Fenders, and Rickenbackers and still do and will always love my Les Paul, but this little baby is a real standup guitar and a whole lot easier on my aged back. Will change out the tuners as they don't quite hold tune like Grovers or Klusons but I have a spare set. Will change out the nut for sure as it is plastic and will not last. Other than that I can't find anything wrong with this guitar. Would like to put on a P-90 pickup, but I like this one. Guess I'll just have to buy another one and put a P-90 in that one. I love this guitar alot!

I was very suprised at just how good this guitar is for the price.
Nice feel, great neck, and doesn't sound to bad with the stock pickup.
    Definately worth the price.

Some fret buzz to start on low E, but easy enough to deal with. Came tuned pretty well with minor setup. Pretty much ready to play out of the box. Great price and value for a guitar that's much easier to play for those with smaller hands. Just what I was looking for.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I just got this guitar for my Bday, and let me just say. This is a great guitar for and affordable price and it is great for people everywhere from a beginner to hard core rockers. The only thing I have to say is if you are a great guitar player and you like metallica or any metal band I would not recommend this to you. This is more for people into punk and classic rock. I have played Gibson versions of these and there is not much difference. The Gibson is better built, but both the Epiphone and the Gibson sound almost exactly alike.

I just got one for my daughter-in-law's little sister. I also have a Gibby LP Jr Armstrong Sig. I had to trot my Gibby down to the luthier to get it right. This baby is right, right outa the freakin' box! Get one and you're happenin'. Go find a band and rock. It's that good.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I think I bought this guitar last winter, and when I did have it, it was really fun to play, which makes me wonder why I sold it. For you guys who play metal, obviously you'll have a really hard time squeezing that much tone out of this thing (I tried), but it sounds very good, regardless. I, myself, mostly play metal, but I still loved how it sounded. Plus, I've never been able to intonate a guitar so perfectly; I loved the bridge on this thing. I had the red, and it looked very good, and very natural, unlike the bright red the picture above shows. Also, the tuners weren't half bad, but I would go as far as to say you may 'eventually' want to replace them. Overall, you can't really find a better electric for the price, which is why I'm planning on buying another very soon.
