This LITTLE guitar is a lot of fun, but needs some work to set it up. The recommended tuning for this guitar (with the light gauge strings it comes with) is a 3rd higher than normal, which is really frustrating when you are trying to tune it normally (almost impossible). I put much heavier gauge strings on it and it tunes to normal E A D G B E and stays there. The tuners are not bad, but could be replaced for even more improvement. The small size of the frets makes this guitar great for my daughter's (age 6) small hands, but it is difficult for an adult to manage if your fingers are normal size, so an adult wouldn't want this as their primary guitar. The pickup is good for the price of the guitar, but not top-of-the-line. The little amp that comes with it is not a capable as you would want for everyday use, but really fun to travel with and it works very well. All in all, with about 30 minutes of set-up work, this is a great little guitar for a great price. I am very satisfied, especially for the price I paid.

With the stock strings, this guitar is quite unsatisfactory. Either you use a non-standard tuning, or it is untunable and unplayable. If, on the other hand, you replace the strings with Ernie Ball "Not Even Slinky" strings, which are extra heavy gauge, designed for detuning standard guitars, then this guitar becomes a very good value. You can use standard tuning, it stays in tune, it plays very well, and has a great sound.

Value?

I ordered one of these little guitars. It is untunable and unplayable. Cute though. Great if you want to hang it on the wall.

It is what it is

By edw_telecaster

This is not a real guitar. It is a kids toy. The scale length makes it a difficult instrument to play and eliminates it as a teaching instruments. Tuning in any key is difficult. Maintaining tune is near impossible. I bought one for my son to bang-on with me. That's all it's good for...banging around. Fortunately, they sell 'em for a hundred bucks, so if you are looking for a high quality musical toy for your kid, this is ok. It is what it is. The little battery powered amp is the best thing in the package.

Different bridge

By Aksak

from Slovenia

Can there be a different bridge between the Pee Wee models which have been produced?Mine has a fixed bridge, almost no possible adjustments, same as on the pictures on this website. When I visited EPIPHONE website and click on the Pee Wee pack, I noticed that the model shown has a much more complex bridge, if note a Tunomatic. That may allow the guitar to be much better set up.

Terrible !

By Wintermute

Unplayable as sold. Can't tune, can't setup for proper intonation. To make it barely playable, I changed to .013 strings, replaced the tuners and put on an adjustable bridge. Definitely not worth the hassle.

Good Little Gem In The Ruff

By MikeyJon

from Groton, CT

Overall, I like the little thing. It is going to be a nice little travel guitar, and that is the sole reason I bought the mini. It is a little hard to tune like so many others have said, but it does hold its tune very well for being a cheap little beater. I have found that the fixed bridge has a tendency to slant forward on higher tunings, but that can be fixed by putting in a new bridge and its sustain is not the greatest, but that is an expected feature of bolt-on necks. It is more suited to smaller hands and it is very beautiful for what it is. The amp is another whole story. It doesn't have any kind of overdrive and is not a very loud amp either. If you are looking to buy an amp, especially travel/ battery operated types, go for the Marshalls (MS-2/MS-4). They are very outstanding for what they are. One of those two amps and this little mini guitar produce a very good little show.

Frammer...

By RC Rocker

I bought this for my 5-year-old, he loves music and was always grabbing my or his older brother's guitars to fram along. I was suprised at the realness of the guitar, very nice for the money and purpose. I haven't had any tuning problems mentioned in the other reviews. I did have to replace the jack nut - it was missing out of the box. I was also suprised at the amp, not an ounce of quality when comparing it to the guitar. The guitar sounds much better through my older boys 15 watt Fender. It very much suits the purpose I bought it for, it'll be cool when he graduates up and we can hang it on the wall. If you have a frammer in the house, buy the guitar but not the amp.

not bad

I bought this guitar for my deployment to Afghanistan. It's cheep, and I wouldn't really care if it got too dinged up. So far, it's done ok. You get a little buzzing on the frets, but nothing too bad. I have to tune up to A in order for it to stay in tune, though. The neck is small, and if you have big hands, like I do, it's hard to solo higher up on the neck. Your fingers just won't fit. But, for what it is, it's working ok for me. I get to play and that's what's most important, right?

Cool practice toy

By Epiwanker

from NY, NY

Like the other guy said after about 30 minutes of setup, this thing is pretty nice. I play it through my zoom box out to headphones and it sounds great. I can jam away and no one else even knows. I kinda like the abnormal tuning. I don't see why it would be a problem, it plays the same, just a little higher pitch, no biggee.

Great!

By Guit5150

from Oakland, CA.

I've just been playing my new Epi Peewee, it's awesome! For the money, it's an excellent bargain as a practice guitar to take on the road for a day or an overnighter. My recommendations straight out of the box: STRETCH those strings!! Then rub down the neck, and the fretboard with strings on, with some good polish..remove all the grime from factory handling, etc. If you want to get the most out of it, without it driving you crazy tuning wise, adhere to Epiphone suggestion of tuning up a step and a half. I did that and it stays in perfect tune. So..if your buddie is playing in E, solo in G, he or she is in A..noodle in C, it's no big deal! The amp is just that, don't expect too much, but cool to carry with you to your favorite spot and jam for the afternoon. I've been playing for more than 20+ years, and am very satisfied with this little baby. Bottom, great little axe.
