I bought a yellow one a year ago. I was interested in a lightweight shorter scale guitar as I mostly play Fenders, and also something I could work on and not worry about ruining. Out of the box it was OK, but it soon needed adjustments. The set bridge wasn't able to hold the tuning up to what my ears are used to, so I replaced it with a tunomatic bridge - this required plugging the holes of the old bridge with dowels and drilling new holes. While I was at it, I put on a surface mounted tremolo - both of these parts I got from a well-known internet discount supplier. So it worked OK for a while and then the tuners started slipping, so I replaced them with a set from the same place. Next, I found I was scratching the surface with my pick strumming so I bought a cheap black pickguard and cut it to fit. Then I repositioned the pickup switch, which my right hand was knocking off and on, so that it moves horizontally. Now the yellow guitar was working pretty good, but about 6 months later it got sloppy again and I had to adjust the truss rod and redo the intonation. But I couldn't get it exactly right so I took it to Shawn the guitar pro and he set it right! This guitar is very light, stays in perfect tune, looks great and the P90 pickups give it a unique sound compared to my other guitars. I do most of my practicing with it and have brought it on a few gigs. For just over double my initial investment I got some experience and a worthy instrument.

A decent guitar to have lying around. Setup is surprisingly good, action is decent & holds in tune fairly well. The neck is cheap, you can use it as a whammy bar. Fit and finish is OK, hardware is cheap. Pickups are a little flat, not a lot of dynamic response. A good deal if you are looking for an inexpensive beater.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great for the price and after some work on it can sound great. I absolutely love the P90 tone and let me tell you these stock pickups aren't as great as true P90's. They dont sound bad but they feel like something is missing, maybe the Mids, muscle and bite of the Gibsons. It's a great idea to replace these with other P90's, I highly recommend Duncans or Gibsons. With a nice setup, some real P90's and a nice tube amp this guitar sounds absolutely killer for anything you throw at it! Blues,Rock'N'Roll,Country,Jazz,Metal, you name it! The price is so great that you can use the guitar as a base for customizing as others have said. Overall I'm really satisfied with this purchase and I now have a great backup or I can even leave my trusty Gibson SG Classic and Vintage Les Paul safe at home. Blues-based raw Rock'n'Roll all the way!!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I am a big fan of P-90 pups and I bought this with the intention of raising the action and making it a slide. It came well packed and looked real good in all black. It played nice, right out of the box. The pups were hot and punchy. The neck was straight with no fret buzz. It was really fun to play and sounded great. Can't be beat it for the price. Anyway, I'm now in the market for another guitar to turn into a slide because I'm gonna keep this as a backup. It's just too much fun to not play regularly.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

Looking for different tones in my collection, originally a Les Paul Jr, I bought this guitar instead because of it's unique twin P90 pickups and sound. P90s are a Gibson single coil pickup with a sound somewhere between a Humbucker and a normal Single Coil. I was even happier when I took it out of the box because it is a really cool low rent take on a Les Paul with it's basic slab shape, little black P90s and matt black finish, I love it. It's well set up and plays right, straight out of the box. The voice I can get out of it varies from natural, articulate and clean to massive thunder 'killer' tone whilst retaining good definition. Mississipi Queen sound. It's not noisy at all like P90s are supposed to be. When the time comes, I'm going to put better strings on, 11s, and see how that goes. The bridge and tuners don't look too flash, they had to cut corners somewhere, but they work and I'll give them a bit of time to prove themselves or not before I start unneccessary 'improvements'. I would be happy to play it in front of an audience alongside my Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus if I needed that cranked up P90 sound, and that is a sign of true satisfaction beacuse I can't imagine ever liking any other guitar as much as the Standard Plus. All in all I am one very happy customer to have purchased such a special guitar. It's great value and it's fun and it's a really characterful electric guitar that you'll have great adventures with and want to hang on to. I recommend it to anyone .

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I've had my eye on Epiphone Les Pauls for a while and have been waiting for a super affordable P90 model: This Is It.
I ordered it (small money, free shipping) It quickly came. Out of the box the setup was clean and smooth. The fret ends and fretboard are well finished. The tuners feel low ratio and bring the string into easy tune; no pinging. The intonation is in and pleasant to the ear. The body is light and the satin finish is comfortable under my hand. While I was expecting a chunkier neck (like an early les paul junior) the thinner neck is very comfortable and playable.
The sound is pure P90 and can be dialed from Jazz to Rockabilly to full on Rock. I really like the simple controls: Single Volume and Single Tone knobs with a 3 way pickup switch. This set up is great for Gigging! No grappling for the right knob to twist for volume or tone in the heat of battle. The P90 design; being a single coil and sort of Gibson's answer to the single coil strat, seems to have the wide volume dynamic range I've gotten used to on strats, but with a way different kind of tone: Fatter, more Jazzy and bell like.
The only con I have is minor overall: the bridge string spacing is a little uneven with respect to the pickup screws but doesn't seem to affect the good tone.
This instrument gets my 5 star for it's all around practicality, good tone, light weight, playability and nice finish. This is a good playing and sounding guitar to knock around Gigs and rehearsals; Get One Today; the best instrument money you will ever spend

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I've gone through lots of guitars. They seem to come and go. Not this one. Why would I get rid of this one? It cost virtually nothing and it sounds and feels so great!

First, this a great sounding guitar. I will admit that I replaced the bridge p90 with another (Epi's bigger brother brand) that I bought on FleaBay for cheap. It's killer. In fact, it's the best sounding guitar I own, no lie. Tone and sustain are fantastic.

Second, the feel is great. The edges on the body are curved and the guitar just feels so comfortable and light (that's important). The neck is easy to wrap your fingers around and lightning fast.

Finally, The finish is just what you want if you want a working class guitar and you are not a snob. I love my semi-transparent TV yellow. And you don't have to worry about some war wounds as this just adds to the character.

What about the cons? There are virtually none. I adjusted the action super low and there is NO fret buzz whatsoever. The fret edges are a little rough and could be filed but I'm too lazy and don't care.

This is the best value you can get for a beginners guitar, bar none. Don't waste money on anything else. I own a couple Epis and let me tell you that they've really stepped up their game. There guitars/quality control is now as good as the big names for much less scratch. Seriously. And even if you are not a beginner, their fantastic. Think about it. You'll have a knock around guitar that'll sound as good as your big names and you won't have to worry about it being nicked or knocked over or having beer spilled on it. In fact, buy a backup for your backup! You will soon find out that you like the Epi even better and you'll leave those other snob guitars at home, in the cases, and you won't even miss 'em. You don't have to waste your money!

          HIGHLY recommended.

I have two of these,(HB&P90),the fretwork on both was very good for a guitar in this price range. With a little minor fret finishing and a good setup both play very well. If you replace the ceramic pickups and get an adjustable bridge, as I did, you will have a great playing and great sounding guitar. The tuners are not the best , but functional. There are some very good lower priced Alnico pickups available online that are perfect for these guitars.

Was given this doll as an early Xmas gift from my best friend-TV Yellow with a set of Ernie Balls, a cable, the soft case, and a strap. I've been learning guitar on my grandad's classic cordoba and a 1970 stratocaster by harmony- the strato was TOO heavy for me, had wire issues and the neck was too fat for me to reach some chords. The epiphone, however, is light weight, and perfect for my practicing/song writing. Considering this is my first NEW guitar I plan on dressing her up with a different bridge and lower action. Yet I am in love with her, couldn't ask for a better first guitar.
