I bought a yellow one a year ago. I was interested in a lightweight shorter scale guitar as I mostly play Fenders, and also something I could work on and not worry about ruining. Out of the box it was OK, but it soon needed adjustments. The set bridge wasn't able to hold the tuning up to what my ears are used to, so I replaced it with a tunomatic bridge - this required plugging the holes of the old bridge with dowels and drilling new holes. While I was at it, I put on a surface mounted tremolo - both of these parts I got from a well-known internet discount supplier. So it worked OK for a while and then the tuners started slipping, so I replaced them with a set from the same place. Next, I found I was scratching the surface with my pick strumming so I bought a cheap black pickguard and cut it to fit. Then I repositioned the pickup switch, which my right hand was knocking off and on, so that it moves horizontally. Now the yellow guitar was working pretty good, but about 6 months later it got sloppy again and I had to adjust the truss rod and redo the intonation. But I couldn't get it exactly right so I took it to Shawn the guitar pro and he set it right! This guitar is very light, stays in perfect tune, looks great and the P90 pickups give it a unique sound compared to my other guitars. I do most of my practicing with it and have brought it on a few gigs. For just over double my initial investment I got some experience and a worthy instrument.

Overall a pretty decent guitar for the price. I was however, dissapointed that the body of the guitar is basswood with very very thin mahogany veneer on front and back. It is also very light. It also has some high frets @ 12-14th that will need leveling off to get better action. The pickups sound good to me and the guitar seems to have pretty good sustain. I'm satisfied with the guitar and really like the TV yellow finish.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I think Epiphone didn't realize that they were building the perfect rock guitar at this price.
I'm a fair guitar tech, so the first thing that I did was replace replace the tuners. Used Kluson 3 on a stick just like the original. Then I bevel and leveled and polished the frets. Then I set it up with low action and it plays and sounds amazing! I added a treble bleed to the circuit so the highs and mids weren't lost when you roll back the volume control. I used a 150k 1/4 watt metal film resistor and a 50v .001mf cap. Now you can roll the volume down to nothing and still have no loss of tone. I also replaced the output Jack.
And speaking of tone, these P90's are the best I've ever played, they have the biggest, fattest sound you'll find on any P90 anywhere.
I have many guitars, but I haven't played any if them since I got this little jewel. Its so light and sounds so good, I keep going back to it over and over.
I don't know what finish they used, but it feels great even after hours of playing.
Everyone who plays guitar at any level needs to own one of these. I've been playing for over 50 years and I can't put it down.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

this is the second one of these I now own. Cannot see how to get a better, truly playable guitar at the price! And I can just leave them lying around the house with little concern for their well being, which I cannot do with my Gibsons, Rickenbacker, etc. A joy to pick up and play.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I've had this monster long enough to change the tuners (Wilkinson locking) and the bridge (Tune-o-matic wrap around) and the strings. I LOVE the P-90s ! I play, for myself, in my studio and at my skill level, this guitar is great. I'm a Bass player as my main instrument so this guitar through a little Mustang 1 amp is all I need…… but this thing sounds great so I'm sure it could cut it as a main stage Axe.

All in all I give this 5 stars, for what it is and how it sounds. I'm sure "real" guitar players will be divided, depending on wether they are snobby about $$, brand name build quality and tube amp delusion. For beginners, intermediate and pro guitarists. for fun or work, this guitar is a solid choice for that P-90 sound in an affordable package.

For this low price, you can't beat this guitar. The P90's give this guitar that great bassy growl on the low end. Nice treble too. Adjusting the tone knob to get the right balance is a bit tricky, but attainable. Action was a hair high, but very playable. The bridge is cheap, but you get what you pay for. Adjusting intonation is very general, but the guitar I received was so close, it wasn't an issue. Even if you're unsatisfied, which you won't be, there will be no problem getting what you paid for it!!!!
