Got this beautiful Pelham blue guitar as a Father's Day present for my husband. I had read numerous reviews on this model and most were very happy with it. The great price was a screaming deal. As soon as he opened up the box he fell in love with it, the fine craftsmanship, great feel, and excellent sound. Initially he was thinking about getting a Joe Bonamassa version, but once he compared this version with it he realized it is virtually the same guitar minus the signature logo. He is particularly fond of the light touch of the strings and their flexibility. All in all this is a great addition to his lovely collection and will be a regular player for his private jam sessions. We have bought 9 out of 11 guitars from Musician's Friend and have always been incredibly satisfied with the excellent price and superb quality of the instruments. I also purchased my Yamaha keyboard from them as well over a year ago and am still having a blast enjoying this fine quality machine. Not once have we ever had damaged goods, and the delivery has always been fast. We are very satisfied with our purchases and will likely buy all our future instruments and accessories from Musician's Friend as well.

This review has to be divided into two distinct areas, one to address the product itself and one to rate the quality of assistance from Musician's Friend's" Gear Heads". Let,s consider the guitar, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top.
For it's price point, the Epiphonr Les Paul Standard Plain Top is a pretty decent deal, especially if purchased with the intent of modifying this guitar. The pickups leave a bit to be desired, especially the neck.pickup which is "muddy" sounding. The tuning machines are a bit lacking, but do the job. The nut is poorly cut and plastic and causes the strings to "bind" or "pinch" which can make tuning difficult. The action was quite high when I received this guitar, so be prepared to do (or have done) a complete professional setup. The "shock" on this guitar came when I removed the control cavity cover from the back of the guitar-THE WIRING JOB WAS HORRENDOUS!!! It is obvious that, at the factory, the original wiring job must have been done incorrectly, and instead of being removed and rewired, the "incorrect" wires were simply "snipped off" leaving a bunch of one inch long wire stubs in the control cavity and the "rewire" job was simply added to the "mess". It looks as if your waiter dropped your plate of spaghetti on the floor and quickly scooped it back onto your plate. If this could make it through Epiphone's Quality Control, it's scary to think what else might make "out the door" at Epiphone. The guitar is acceptable, to me at least, because I bought it to go with a matched set of Seymour Duncan Antiquities Pickups and I intend on changing pots, caps and wiring ed well. If doing these mods weren't on my agenda, then I would have returned the guitar, but because of these mods and the great deal I received on this instrument, it's a keeper and when done, I expect this guitar to be "on part" with many Gibson Les Paul s. Due to the poor wiring job, I can only rate this guitar with a "3", as fit and finish is good.
Now, to Musician's Friend. I have to rate Musician's Friend a 5+.. Gear Head Sam Bingham is a wonderful person to work with and made everything too good to turn down. Not only did I receive a great deal, but Sam went "out of the way" to make sure that I was happy with my purchase and I am. Sam is not o.lay a Musician's Friend but is also a "musician" and a person that I'm both happy and proud to call "friend". As a musician, Sam understands your needs and is always able to steer you in the right direction for your equipment purchases and Sam follows up.Sam's exhuberence for the job, love of music and eagerness for all customers to be, not just satisfied, but happy with their purchase. This is a 'refreshing' if not an all too rare experience in this day and age. Give Sam Bingham a call...you'll be glad that you did.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar:

Super Guitar for anyone to consider if you don't want to drop a load of cash on a Gibson. I bought as blemished but there were no blemishes to the naked eye. Looked better than those hanging in the guitar stores. This model Epi plays fabulous. Its not a Gibson, but its the next best thing.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar and have to immediately send it back. The action on the 1st string is too high and cannot be adjusted properly - there is not enough thread on the Tune-O-Matic bridge. The same goes with the intonation - in order to set the right octave tone, there is not enough thread on the adjustment screws. There is strong buzz on the 3rd and 4th strings either open, or played on any fret. And finally unhappy with the tone - high notes stick out and it is practically impossible to play clean.

The guitar looks great, but I got a feeling that they screwed up the geometry, probably glued the neck at a slightly wrong position.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar:

I just got this guitar a couple days ago, and it is a great guitar. I needed an affordable electric guitar and this one suits me great. I play guitar with my school worship team, but i really wanted this guitar to play rock and metal, it does both very good. I love the sound of it, and it feels great to play. I'm no expert, but i think that the pickups sound fine, and even if you don't like them, it would be cheaper to buy this guitar and new pickups than to buy a Gibson. The only thing that i don't like is that it has a bit of fret buzz, but that is fixable.

I use to play in bands locally in my youth,i'm retired now and i had the money to buy one and this is worth every penny. The pic doesn't do it justice. I plan on putting lighter gauge strings like i use to use on all my earlier guitars, makes it easier to play for me.And i have played on Gibson's and these are just as good to me.I wouldn't turn down a Gibson though. You will have to get a case for it.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar:

I'm so glad that I bought this guitar. I used to play a lot of guitar, but became a bass player about 15 years ago because my band needed one. I still play bass and love it, but I wanted to get back to guitar as well. I have a Strat, but always wanted a Les Paul too, so I picked up this one. I don't have any experience with Gibson Les Paul's, so I can't really compare, but this Epi Les Paul is great. It's built as well as my American made 1983 strat. I read some reviews that said there were problems with the frets catching on strings and with fret buzz because of poor set up. I haven't had any such problems. The feel is great. I'm pleasantly surprised how comfortable and smooth it plays. It sounds great to my ears, and I'm having a great time getting back into guitar with it.

My wife bought this for me a few years ago. Nice little guitar. I just couldnt come to pay a few thousand for a gold top and this one fits the bill without shelling out a ton. There was a little fret buzz but I think I have that worked out. Otherwise a nifty guitar for the price providing all the LP features. I replaced my bridge pickup with a Dimarzio PF pro in My Gibson Studio LP, but left the stock ones in this one for the sound. Works great.

This guitar absolutely smokes! I received it as a gift from my uncle I had my eye on a cardinal red standard for a while! When I got the guitar I was floored it was flawless out of the box only thing I did was tweak the pickup height to my taste. Epiphone has upped their game I can't knock it out of tune! I had a les Paul custom years ago and loved it but I got rid of it cause I needed a 12 string for the band I was in at the time! I have been playing Hot rodded Jackson guitars for years now and I still do but it feels good to get a Paul back in my hands! I love my jacksons and I love my Les Paul's I've played the gibsons they are great but i will take this Epiphone over a Gibson the craftsmanship is great and the guitar is amazing! Pick one up today you won't be disappointed!
