A mahogany body, a hard maple top and Gibson's '57 pickups with series/parallel switching.

Epiphone's long friendship with innovator Les Paul dates back to the late '30s and early '40s when Les and fellow guitarists such as Charlie Christian and George Barnes were at the forefront of jazz guitar. Epi Stathopoulos and Les were good friends and Epi would let Les use the Epiphone factory on 14th Street in New York City at night after hours to experiment on guitar and pickup designs. This also was the era when Les, inspired by the stinging sustain heard in electric steel guitars, began dreaming of making a solidbody guitar. He built his first, the legendary "Log," at the Epi factory in 1941. Over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone luthiers, reviewing new product ideas and offering suggestions.

Now, the Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus honors Epiphone's friendship with Les by combining his classic design features with legendary Epiphone quality and value with the added power of Gibson® USA '57 Classic humbuckers. But this guitar is not just about recreating the "old," it's also about looking ahead, just as Les himself continued to do throughout his lifetime. Using 4-conductor pickup wiring, Epiphone has added two push/pull tone pots to allow for series/parallel pickup switching. The result is a Les Paul with all the standard sounds plus a huge palette of tonal possibilities at your fingertips. The Les Paul Tribute Plus also features Epiphone's famous built-to-last hardware and electronics including a U.S. Switchcraft™ 3-way toggle, Mallory-150 tone capacitors, Epiphone StrapLocks, 16:1 ratio premium Grover® locking tuners, and a premium hardshell case.

I wanted a Les Paul model guitar, but can't afford a Gibsonn. I did some research on the Epi Les Paul Tribute and liked what I read. Let's get right to it, starting at the top: It has Grover locking tuners and so far I have not had any tuning problems. It has a cool truss rod plate that reads "Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus". The only thing I didn't like was the thickness of the finish on the back of the head stock that prevented me from deciphering the serial number that is stamped into the wood. Luckily the serial number was on the shipping box in two places. The neck is the "C" shape thin neck and is easy to play. I have small hands and it fits me perfectly. The strings are .10 - .46. The body is real mahaogany and is not chambered. The top cap is real carved maple, not a laminate. I got the midnight ebony color and it is a tranparent finish to showcase the flamed maple finish of the wood. The only problem with the finish is it appears to have two small sand marks made before the finish was applied. Not very noticeable and it makes my guitar different from anyone else's. The pickups are USA Gibson 1957 humbuckers. I play through two amps - a Fender Twin Reverb reissue and a Fender Frontman 25. The sound from the humbuckers are amazing. I get the full, mellow sound through the clean channel which is what I was looking for. The tone pots are push/pull to take the humbuckers out of parallel to make it sound like single coil pickups. The knobs are black speed style knobs and look great with the black finish. I put the guitar on an electronis scale and it registered 8.6 pounds. The only thing I don't care for is cosmetic in nature. I don't care for the creme pickup rings and the creme selector switch plate. That is a personal preference and nothing to do with the fit, finish or performance. For all intents and purposes this guitar is a Gibson with an Epiphone headstock. I am really pleased with the effort Epiphone went to for this guitar. I play it every day. This one is a keeper.

When I asked MF rep initially, he said they looked at the guitars before sending them out. Then, it came to me with a broken pot. Called, got return, and asked if this was a common problem with the model and was told NO. Replacement not shipped, called to find order not put in two days later. Then I got a different color since they sold out of the first. No worries- Cherry and Sapphire are both great looking btw. Finally got it again a week after that- same pot is broken on the new guitar, but not shorted like the other so not in need of soldering. I find the replacement on line to see its construction, look under the hood, and see that the one in the guitar had broken into two parts (stem from other piece) and never could have held to the body in its condition. I was able to put the pot together after perusing the internet to see how it should have been assembled in the first place. Be careful to protect the holes with the plastic initially used around them on the outside of the guitar to keep the finish nice when you reinstall the pot. It works fine now, but the USA electronics by Gibson seem to boast a faulty potentiometer that looks allot like inexpensive ones sold online. Others have noted this problem with the pots on this guitar. Two faulty pots in a row does not suggest an isolated problem. All in all this is a pretty nice guitar, but there are quality control issues with some of the minor stuff so it is good if you are handy or do not mind being a regular at the UPS facility in your area. Very nice guitar otherwise-but my experience was not good initially. I will better be able to evaluate it after a more prolonged period of use. I had previously never experienced problems with other Epiphone guitars, and this model is unique and may be worth the effort. In the worst case, if you are handy and can solder a little, worse come to worse, a better quality pot is inexpensive and easy enough to replace should you need to down the road.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus Electric Guitar:

Having owned a few lemons in my day I was cautious when considering this guitar. I read the reviews, i checked the Epi's web site, and listen to demo's. I compared this to the equivalent Gibson. With a 45 day return policy I took the chance. I DO NOT REGRET THE DECISION. I bought the Midnight Ebony. Beautiful and classy with amazing tone. Give it a chance. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus Electric Guitar:

I had been waiting for another Epiphone LP that has been back ordered for the last 5 months. I started checking other options and found this one to have similar specs with a lot of hardware upgrades. So I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. Guitar arrived setup pretty good from the factory. Finish was perfect. Beautiful book matched tiger maple top. I got the midnight sapphire model. Played decent out of the box. I checked the setup and changed a few things to my liking. The neck was almost straight and the bridge was set a little high. Truss rod worked smoothly. I lowered bridge and re-set intonation. Plays like a dream. Great tone. The coil splitting feature gives you plenty of tonal options I own a few Gibson LP's and this Epiphone model is every bit as good. A great bargain for a classic guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus Electric Guitar:

The tone on this one is sweet. I upgraded from an Epiphone Standard Les Paul and the difference in sound is like night and day. I play a variety of music from clean to distorted and it sounds great on all of those tones. The parallel coils sound decent. not quite like a strat but definitely thinner than the humbucker mode. That make this guitar full of tonal possibilities.

I find the 60's slim taper neck to be very comfortable. The neck is glossy but isn't sticky and plays smooth. The Grover locking tuners are awesome. They make string changes quick and easy while keeping in tune.

This guitar is heavy. Mine comes in at 9lbs. I highly recommend using strap locks when playing.

The only bad things I can say is that the flames on mine a very mild and it looks just ok. There are also some minor finishing imperfections.

Overall this guitar is a great deal. It doesn't need any upgrades, the sound is awesome and it feels like a sturdy high grade instrument.

I wanted a Les Paul for a while but could not justify $2K. This guitar has a great feel, the look is beautiful (Faded Cherry Sunburst) and good electronics, it has 57' Gibson pickups. The price made this purchase a no-brainer.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus Electric Guitar:

I played Gibson guitars in the early 70's and switched to Fender's in the 80's and have been playing Strats and Teles ever since. After playing Fender's for so long, I never felt comfortable playing any Gibson at all. Not sure if it's the string spacing, the neck radius or what. On a recent recording session in Nashville, I picked up several Les Paul's in the studio and fell in love with the tone, I actually used a few different models on the recordings. I decided to buy a Les Paul when I returned to PA. I read a lot of positive reviews on the Epiphone Les Paul Tribute and decided I did not want to spend the ridiculous amount of money on a Gibson, so I went for this model. This has now become one of my favorite guitars! This guitar sounds absolutely amazing and feels just like the Gibson's that I played in the studio. The craftsmanship is excellent, the Gibson '57 humbuckers sound awesome, and the finish is beautiful. If you're thinking about buying this guitar.... Just do it, you will not be disappointed.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus Electric Guitar:

I'll keep it simple: I purchased one of the used ones, came with a new case. I have many years experience as a luthier, it needed a good setup and new strings. The weakest point on this instrument is the bridge, it doesn't match the quality of the rest of the instrument. I had a new Gotoh nickle bridge in the shop and installed that. But you know what, for the price you can't expect top quality on everything. I removed the neck pickup, to look at the wood, nice big chunk of maple under the veneer. I've owned several Les Pauls.. tonewise and playability this guitar matches up to any Gibson I've ever owned. Sustain is forever, the pickups are great sounding.. yes, there are small details that don't match up to the made in USA Gibsons, but the important parts are all there. Take my advice, if you're inexperienced at setting up an instrument, get the guitar professionally setup. All new guitars need to have this done, tell the repair person to check the string height at the nut.

Bought this as Condition 2 / Very Good.
Website pics hinted at scratch across front, under neck pickup. Have had for several months, still cant find the scratch.
Black Cherry finish is amazing. Not the (big brother) Les Paul,, but still, Epiphone did an excellent job.
Packaged well no damage. Broken pot when I opened it. Got it fixed at local music store(VERY REASONABLE).
Looks great, Sounds great, Plays great.
                      Thanks MF..

bought this guitar a few months ago. im blown away by how inexpensive this guitar is for the hardware thrown into it. to get a Gibson of this level your looking atleast 2000$. pick ups and coil taps with a huge tonal array. as far as im concerned this is a must have guitar! I play mainly rock/blues.
