The more I play this and play with the features the more I like it.
Epiphone should improve the software manual. First step: "install disk" - there is no disk - it's a download once you register at special /U3 site. You should just know this??? Downloading the software was a process of downloading compression software and other horsing around, guessing what to do - took a long annoying time. That was frustrating. But I really like the guitar rig software and how easy it works with guitar.
Now all is well and I'm loving this guitar. It is my favorite of the six I own - some costing 3X as much.
The Epiphone and MF people I dealt with were very helpful - although the Epiphone/Gibson person seemed uninterested in my suggestion to improve their manual or adding a card so it reflects what a person actually needs to do with software load. Hope they fix that soon for others.
The satin finish neck is super fast and feels great.
The built in tuner is discrete, super bright leds, easy to use and see and cuts out guitar when unpugging from amp. I suspect all guitars will have this soon.
The sounds from the computer with guitar rig are very good - even at low volume through computer speakers sounds like a full set up but only a usb cable hooked up.
The software comes up fast and is easy to use.
Playing through two amps - acoustic and guitar makes for some really interesting sounds.
The acoustic pickup really does make the guitar sound like an acoustic.
I like the Gibson strings too. They're 10s but play like 9s and have a bright sound.
The faded cherry sunburst finish is beautiful. The fit is tight and it feels and plays very well. I like it better than my strat and PRS SE. The set up was very good. I had low expectations after reading other reviews but the only flaw I can see on the guitar is some plastic at the point of the pick guard that needs to be trimmed off and a rattle inside that made me nervous but all is well - so an 8 because it seems like these would have been easy for an inspector to see and fix.
Many useful features, easy to play - looks and feels great.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
Buying a Condition 2 guitar, is a good value. I had to look fairly hard to find what I think is the 'gently used' condition. To get a guitar like this and is comparible in condition with 'new off the rack' is the way to go.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
I purchased my first one at another store. The Vintage Sunburst finish was beautiful, the action was a little high, but the neck felt nice and I expected a little fret buzz from the reviews. The buzz got worse and I brought it back and after a week of trying, the luthier admitted defeat. I loved the NanoMag and the USB port and I decided it must have been a bad run. Decided to give MF a try, although a great store, I am not a big fan of the delivery folks. It arrived well packed and none the worse from its journey.
The AAA Vintage Sunburst Maple top is REALLY beautiful. This one arrived setup perfectly for my tastes. It only needed tuning and there is NO fret buzz what so ever. First, the NanoMag through an acoustic amp, I'm using a Kustom Siena 30, sings although you may want to lower the treble on the back of the guitar. The three Nanomag control are VERY variable. Second, the Probuckers sound very good and even better played along with the Nanomag.
The push/push switch does have a slight delay when switching between pick-ups but is not terribly annoying. My MAC recognized it immediately in Garage Band though there is some high pitch whine bleeding over into my Fender Blues Jr. when connected to the USB cable and I am using the one provided (USB with Ferrites attached) by Epiphone.
After 1 month I am very pleased with this guitar. The 60's satin finished neck plays wonderfully, it kind of feels like my '74 L6-S, my very favorite. This Epi has taken over as my second favorite betting out my '98 California Strat. It feels solid, lighter than a Gibson Standard LS thanks to the chambered and contoured body, it is also comfortable to play for extended periods of time. On a one to ten I would give it a nine. For the price I don't think you can get better value for the money. Oh, I have been playing guitar for over 40 years and I have owned many guitars and although I never buy one with the intent of selling it later I have, for whatever reason. This one is definitely a keeper.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
I've had my Ultra III for a couple weeks and I couldn't be happier. It is a beautiful piece and it a lot of fun to play.
The probuckers provide an excellent electric tone as you'd expect. But the way they work seamlessly with the nanomag is what makes this guitar worth every penny.
The nanomag delivers a shockingly rich and full acoustic even through a passive DI. But the best results I got came using my Behringer ULTRA-DI100 and a Boss AD-3.
I use mine primarily in a worship setting and it is helpful to be able to switch during a medley or even mid song from electric to acoustic.
Its also useful in solo gigs to have both sounds that compliment each other so well.
But most of all its just a fun guitar to jam with alone of in a band setting.
On the software, I haven't tried it yet. There is, as of this, a free version of guitar rig 5 on its site (the Ultra III come with guitar rig 4). I started the setup but it was tedious and didn't hold my attention. I'm sure I'll get around to it but I'd rather just play the guitar.
All in all a great guitar for the money. It won't totally replay your acoustic but its a great tool to have available.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
Had this Ultra 3 for a couple of weeks now and am really liking it a lot. It's comfortable and the dual pickup system fills out a venue when needed. There is a very nice contrast in tone between the nano-mag and the humbucker pickups.
The only negative thing is the cryptic guitar rig instruction manual for initiating the audio software for this Les Paul. I haven't set that up yet and hope it doesn't spoil the party!
The guitar was very well protected during transit(triple boxed and padded)and my shippment came on time as expected. MF also gave me a nice discount when ordering by phone. I just had to ask the operator and it was cordially done. I've had nothing but good experiences with Musician's Friend. Thank you once again!
Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
Really been pleased with this product. This is my second les paul and unless they come out with an american version of the les paul ultra 3 I dont see myself ever needing another one. Really love the finish on the neck; I dont get that sticky feeling after playing a while. USB port, Built in tuner, and acoustic pickup make this guitar amazing. Never again will I have to carry multiple guitars to a recording session or gig.
Really like the built in tuner. Acoustic pickup sounds amazing and I really like the cut in the body. Makes it really light weight. Tuners themselves make it very easy to tune. Never really had any trouble getting the guitar in tune quickly.
Love the finish on the neck. Makes it easy to play. Solid instrument.
Not a bad price. Wish it came with a case but alas a good buy.
Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
Also got the case and strap locks.
Great pickups and tone quality. Knobs are smooth and feel great. Back neck satin finish is easy to get use to and promote speed. USB port and Guitar Rig softeware are definite pluses. Tuner is also a nice touch and complete the whole package. Would highly recommend this for the price.
Very nice finish and construction. No flaws whatsoever. Plays great and tones are amazing. No bzzzing straight out of the box.
Can't complain about the price. Most bang for the buck in all my stash of guitars.
Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
Overall this is a great guitar. I usually don't like LP's. I stick with super strats, but this is an exception. My one issue isn't even with the guitar. But be warned a standard epiphone case will not fit this guitar. I think because of the NanoMag pickup the guitar is slightly longer than a standard LP which makes it too long to fit in an LP case.
Stellar guitar. The satin neck is great for high speed playing. The onboard tuner (which automatically mutes the guitar when activated) is an amazing bonus. I haven't messed with the USB yet so no opinion there. Chambered body makes it light and easy to play for hours. Midnight Ebony finish is absolutely gorgeous.
So far so good (only had it for a day). The action will have to be taken down a bit, but that's to be expected on a new guitar... And the standard pickups are kinda quiet for me. Probably gonna slap some EMG's in it...
For the money I don't think you can do better...
Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
Very impressed with this guitar! cant put it down.
Really love the built in tuner, usb, and the options to do acoustic and electric. Tune keys make it super easy to tune very quickly.
This les paul is super light weight, but the quality is not sacrificed. I really love the satin neck; much easier to play then my les paul standard.
Given what you get with the guitar, this is overall the best value in a les paul. With the usb port and the free software which alone is $200, its a no brainer that this guitar is the best in value. Wish it included atleast a gig bag, but thats not a deal breaker.
Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:
As mentioned above, all my problems are with the neck. Shape, finish, frets. Not a "FINISHED OUT' guitar.
I enjoy the weight loss from (yes) my LP's- RD's. 1966 ES-335 Kalamazoo, Firebirds V and VIImy first electric guitar 1964- Epiphone "Wilshire" strings thru body non-adjustable bridge, single PU, scalloped headstock--- I will pay ... for it's mate in 8-9 condition-next Gibson TS-125 Cherry sunburst- played that with Eric Burdon, Beau Brummels, The People (Ted Templeman) and a bunch more you name itI own it. Including my famous L-4 purchased from one of the great jazz guitarists ever, and what a life story (hint) autographed with his Boogie Heartbreaker...eat your hearts out---calm down,,,,,,,,, I'm 63+ your time will come. Buy quality, you will learn faster, enjoy it more (so you don't quit) and the insturments will be with you for life. Never sell a good axe. Go work for more money. It takes 10,000 hrs. to be bellamismo, grande, good enough to make a living. Good Luck To All.
I bought My Ultra used- no problem with MF, as always a great deal. If any single thing made me buy this insturment (a firm LP hater for years) it was the fabulous demo video. The guitar does everything the young man played (THROUGH WHAT AMP? i DON'T CARE) a beautiful combination of luthiers art and technology.
A beautiful insturment in fit and finish. I would rather the neck back was raw and smoothed with a fingernail buffer and handoil... play it...
My significant problem is with the necks shape, fret size and board finish.Running scales on a new insturment should not feel like a first time endeavour. The Ultra-III neck is U shaped, unlike any other neck on any of 175+ insturments. So, you will have to get accoustomed
to playing on your tips, or pads...thumb over the neck or reasonibly centered. For a neck grabber like me it's new, different and coupled with the finish, a pain the the wrist. That takes us to the fretboard finish, POLISHED WITH A GRINDING WHEEL... I strung it with Darco 10's Get hip to Darco's/ 10 to give the 'acoustic sound' a fair shake, I don't care about the string other thanisit suited to the insturment. The frets SUCK, rougher than a cobb and not big enough-make em wider, taller smoother...
Great value for a unique insturment- do not overlook Guitar Rig and the usb/PC marriage or you will miss half of this guitars unique capabilities.I'm a nerd too.
