I do quite a bit of recording in my home studio. I have a Tele which I love, but I needed a set neck, dual humbucker guitar to get "that" sound when I need. Problem was, I really don't like Les Paul type guitars, so I was looking for something else and luckily I found this. It's exactly what I was looking for and more. Light weight, but not too light. Great feeling neck, sustain for days, and the pickups sound awesome! Warm and thick, with a really nice crunch when you turn up the gain. They also sound great clean, especially in the middle position, very full. I played several "real" Gibson SGs ($1200+) to see how this one compared and I actually prefer this one, and it's less than 1/3 of the price! The body is a tad thicker at the edges than a normal SG, which makes it feel really solid. It's also not as bright/brittle sounding as the Gibsons (maybe it's the walnut?). Awesome guitar. A STEAL at this price. I haven't found a better set neck, humbucker guitar at this price, or even double the price. Epiphone Les Paul Standards are great too, but if you're like me and a LP is not quite your style, you owe it to yourself to try one of these. Get one while they're still around!

I dragged my feet and these were sold out before I decided to purchase this guitar. I was fortunate to purchase a level 2 return. Someone had set the action too low, and damaged the plastic nut. for $15 I got a TUSQ nut for this guitar, only need to be sanded to proper height, spot glued, and WOW, what an awesome guitar! Looks great, plays like a dream, and everyone comments positively about the sound and appearence. The few folks who I let play it say the same thing, "what an awesome guitar". Currently I play in a friday night jam band, and I love this guitar. Could not be more pleased!
I highly recomend the TUSQ nut upgrade for this guitar. Stays in tune now.

A Quality Ax!

By One Cool Ax

from Amherst, NY

I have owned over a dozen guitars through the years, and usually they involve an intensive set-up process once I receive them. This SG was a happy break from the norm, no special set-up required. The action was perfect, no buzzing and the neck is extremely fast. Make no mistake this guitar is a player's dream and has the look and feel of a custom shop piece. If you want an AX that you will cherish for years to come, get this guitar, it will reinspire your love for Rock & Roll!

WOW Beautiful guitar!!!! The finish on this SG is amazing!!! not a single flaw!!! intonation is perfect, neck perfect !!! a little adj to the action, and shred away!!! it plays like butter!! the solid walnut body and bound neck gives the SG sustain like my Gibson Les Paul!! The pick ups are plenty hot and filthy ( I was worried they would not be hot enough!) This is a Epiphone custom shop guitar, but not advertised as one!!! a real gem!!!

Having a great time with this guy

Ask me a question

Great playing and great sounding SG. I am not an SG guy -- this is a bit of a reach for me. But I like the playability and tone, the figured walnut is great, love the 1966 pick guard and slim profile neck, and it stays in tune. The nickel hardware appears to be decent quality. No reason I can see to change out the pick-ups. This will probably never be my #1, is not the equivalent of a pricey Gibson, but it has scratched an itch at a workable price point, and will get lots of use.

Great guitar

By Jim-PwAPE

Very well made, great pickups, came with perfect setup. The solid (not veneer) walnut body and neck has excellent sustain and great tone. Quality machine heads. I cannot think of a better guitar for the money, even at twice the price.

Nice

I would rate this one hot baby... except that it only has one color... i'd recommend this guitar for either a begginer or advanced guitar player....i'd even recommend this since it has a limited edition. This is a great guitar and i would say its 99% same as the Gibson guitar, and that the only difference is the name...

I bought this for the looks and was far more impressed by the actual guitar. It's a limited edition worth easily three times what I paid. Everything about it is top quality and and sounds and plays better than you would think possible at any price. Sell your house or car and buy this guitar. You'll never regret it!

THE best axe for the price

By BernieDawg

from Findlay, OH

I recently purchased this guitar after playing the cherry colored version in a store. I loved the feel and sound. It's fairly lightweight, and easy to play. I decided on the walnut version because you always see red SG's and I wanted something different. This guitar is b-e-a-utiful. I'd highly recommend this guitar to anybody looking for a rockin' humbucking guitar and especially if you can't afford a pricey gibson.
