Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar! I got mine in Alpine White and it looks great. The only things I do not like are the finger grunge from the fret board and the orange toggle switch knob. Apparently Epiphone uses a treatment on the fret boards that is not adequately dried when delivered. A few cleanings and it disappears. I replaced the toggle switch cover to a white one. The "aged" cover looked out of place on a black and white guitar. The tone and playability are to kill for. The pickups are hot and have the bark and bite a P90 should have. The setup was good out of the box, and only tuning was required to play. I was concerned about the lightning bridge, and it appears to be a hybrid between a compensated saddle and a "normal" bridge. As the intonation was good, this is not a problem thus far. There are two set screws to adjust, should a problem arise. I put .010-.046 strings on it, and it plays like a dream. Throught a DRRI it sounds like an SG should. I love this guitar, and at this price! Epi says this is a limited run, but I do not know how long a run that would be.
Also, Kudos to Musicians Friend! I ordered on Thursday night and received the guitar on the following Monday! Not as fast as Wiley Coyote with Acme, but nearly!

this guitar is a great little secret. I love it but it could have a better set-up. A great deal is only a great del if your not spending another hundred to set it up. Neck adjustments and string height should be donemore effectively.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

i loved this guitar when i first seen it,so there really could be nothing wrong with it for me, it has some small dots in the paint but thats just very small, besides that it was setup almost perfect, the string hight is low, the pickups sound great, the color of the guitar(cherry)was amazing, the bridge is solid with no buzzing from the pickups really, p90s will have some buzzing, the neck is not really that heavy to me it might be to somebody else but i rest my palm on the bridge and my arm on the upper body so it stays up for me. the nut that came with mine is almost white not black like in the photo, maybe the newer made ones have a white nut. but anyway this guitar sounds great, plays very smooth and is light weight, i mean it is easly worth much more than the price. it is so great even if you like your guitars to be spotless and absolutly perfect just buy this and do what ever you want to it. bottom line just get this dont pass it by because its limited and its just special. sorry about spelling was always to busy learning importint things like music. goodbye thanks for reading hope i helped.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for one reason, To turn it into a Tony Iommi Monkey clone. It arrived early & packed very well. in very good shape. Not a scratch on it. The set up was awful & unplayable
out of the box. The bridge is GARBAGE, but I knew that before I bought. So I changed the bridge to a Schaller & got a pro set up, Now it plays like a dream. The pickups are better than I thought they would be, i'll be changing them to chrome John Birch pups. For me its just a plank for mods. Fit & finish is great. To play as is I would not. The bridge is useless, just a paper weight. The tuners are O.K. for now. Plan on spending some extra cash on a good set up & a good bridge. Then it can be a GREAT guitar. Also move the strap button Very head heavy. Heavy nose dive.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

I seldom if every write this, but I'm making an exception. I just bought one of these for a friend and expected the standard epiphone. Good quality with mediocre electronics (hence the price). I was shocked at how good these P-90s sound. Nice and crisp, clean, not muddy or dull at all. After that, it's what you expect from an Epi SG special. Bottom line, if you have a budget and don't mind the normal minimal compromise on fit and finish (which was still acceptable), buy this for the tone, which compares well to the Gibson.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

              Nice guitar for the money.
Mine's Alpine White like the SGs that Pete Townshend's had before he smashed them. I was concerned that the tailpiece bridge would be dificult to intonate but it was not an issue. The guitar arrived not very well set up but it was not difficult to get everything adjusted to my liking. The P90's sound great and the guitar stays pretty much in tune. I have two other Gibson SGs and the quality on this Epi seems comparable. I did replace the bridge studs with TonePro locking studs. I got the metric sized ones and they screwed in without having to remove the factory bushings. They keep the bridge from coming loose when you change strings and correct the angle that the factory studs allowed the bridge to have. They also increase sustain because of the more precise fit. Other than that, it's a really cool axe. I will NOT be smashing this one.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

My bass player bought this guitar for grins and giggles.
I played it for an entire rehearsal today, about 2 1/2 hours or so. It was simply great. It plays like a dream. That said, he did take to get setup locally. All he did was add some Hybrid Slinky's and a Strap Lock system.
Great sound from clean Blues to crunchy Metal.
Plays like a much, much more expensive guitar.
I own, and have access to, some really great playing guitars, US Charvel So-Cal, Ibanez RG3550 etc.. this plays as well, if not better than any of them.
Beautifully built. As far as the tuning, it stays in tune fine for a hard tail, non locking system.
Had to tune maybe twice in a couple of hours.
If you aren't familiar with the SG charm it is the 12th fret being 6 or 7 frets left of the cut outs.
For a guy like me that struggles past the 12th, chubby fingers, it is awesome. (This is true with any SG).

For the money, you cannot find a better deal on a really great sounding, playing, and built hard tail Axe than this.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

Just came in way ahead of schedule so im very pleased with their service. The guitar itself came all wrapped up safe and secure, no dings or scratches. Its neck heavy like all SG's are but a simple strap will cure that. Factory strings are pretty generic and il have to adjust the action but thats all normal for a brand new guitar. Only reason its 4 stars is because i wish they would would put SG on the truss rod cover, but im going to replace it anyway with a custom anyway.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Electric Guitar:

I'm a Fender fan, but sometimes you just want something different. After hunting months for a Gibson-type guitar, I found this and thought it was awesome. Then I got it home and noticed the negatives. I put a strap on it and stood up. Playing was comfortable, but as soon as I took my hands off the guitar, the neck went south. So, you have to hold this guitar up while playing it. Then I noticed it wouldn't stay in tune. The neck moves a lot, especially in temperature changes. The tuners are fine and hold well, but the neck, being a thin "D" shape, bows every ten minutes hampering tuning and throwing the action off. I usually play an 11-50 string set, but there's no way this guitar could take them.
As for the tone... well, it's super good. Solid P90 tone that's almost as good as Gibson or boutique pups. They have great bark and stay clear through almost every amp and pedal combo. I love this tone. The electronics are great too. The volume and tone knobs work well with each other, and the switching is solid. The bridge does its job, just not as adjustable as other models. But this guitar is basically a plank, so it doesn't need to do much.
Fit and finish are excellent, especially at this price. I didn't notice any flaws in the paint, binding, nut, or frets.

The P90 pick ups on this thing really wail and it can get a great loud, rocking sound. I use a lot of distortion and this guitar is perfect for that warm fuzzed sound.
