I have finally found the travel guitar I need. Objectives: Nice Looking, Well Made, Good Tone, Playability, Electric, Inexpensive. The Epiphone meets every objective. This is a very nice guitar. Fit and Finish is exceptional for this price. Tone is more than adequate. Neck, frets, intonation, all more than expected at this price. I bought the Mahogany removed the pick guard, added new strings, and brass bridge pins. I'm good to go. Thanks Epiphone for the attention to detail and quality control. Truly this is a no brainer if you want a very nice guitar for the money! Thanks MF for, as usual, excellent price, no hassle guarantee, and quick shipping. You guys and gals do indeed rock my world!

Awful set up. The A D and G strings had sitar-like buzzes on the first 4 frets. Unplayable. The strings coming out of the bridge peg-holes took weird angles between the holes and the actual bridge. I had to loosen the strings and realign them to get them running in straight lines from peg holes to tuning pegs. I put the guitar back in the box and returned it the next day.

Phenomenal guitar for the price

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary "1964" Caballero Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

A great-sounding guitar in a beautiful package, the Caballero is the perfect guitar for people like me -- no longer a beginner, but without the talent to justify spending $500+ on a single guitar. Lucky for me, the Caballero plays and sounds like a guitar twice its cost.

It arrived perfectly set up out of the box, and the built-in tuner helped me get started playing literally one minute after it had been unboxed. After a few days of playing, I've gotta say that I couldn't be happier with the build quality, size, or sound. Yes, it's smaller than a dreadnaught and doesn't boom quite the same way, but that's a plus in my book. It fills the room just fine on its own and still sounds great amplified. The smaller body makes it more fun to play and it still has all the sweet tone you'd want from an acoustic guitar.

And there's no getting around the fact that it is a legitimately beautiful instrument. The mahogany finish is much deeper and darker than comes across in pictures. The tortoise binding is a really nice touch -- very subtle from a distance and very striking up close.

Bottom line, I couldn't be happier, and if I had to do it all over again with twice the budget, I'd still buy this guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary "1964" Caballero Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Just rec'd this guitar today. I chose the Mahogany. Absolutely beautiful guitar. On board tuner, great action and no adjustment needed what so ever. I have a $1500 Breedlove and a Yamaha APX acoustic and for this price this is a great buy. Great sound plugged or unplugged. I don't write reviews but for those of you out there that were on the fence with this guitar, jump off and buy it. You know the saying "you get what you pay for". Well in this case you get a lot more for what you pay for.

Amazing inexpensive guitar

By chadwellw

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary "1964" Caballero Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar out of curiosity. I am a luthier and I already own two Gibson LG0's. The Caballero of the 60's is exactly the same as the LG0. With that said. The only thing that this guitar has in common with the original is the shape and size. The original was solid top and back, laminated sides. This is all laminated. The original was ladder braced. This is X braced (but kinda crude). The original had a cheesy plastic bridge. This is real wood (not sure what kind). Depending on the year, the original had either a 1-11/16" or a 1-9/16" nut width. My LG0's have the 1-9/16" and I love them. This guitar splits the difference..1-10/16"...very nice compromise. The original was bound on the top, but not the back. This has tortoise binding top and back. The original did not come in black, mine is black. The original had no electronics, this has a Shadow pickup and preamp..I'd rather it didn't because the preamp is mounted on the body. I have two 1967 LG0's. I restored one to original. The other I took apart and rebuilt with X bracing. This new Caballero sounds better than the ladder braced one, but not as good as the X braced one. Oh..another difference. The originals had low wide frets...very comfortable. This new one has standard frets and they needed quite a bit of attention to make them smooth. Ok, those are the differences. So, here's my review: The guitar is amazingly inexpensive. Mine was an "open box" greatly discounted. That's almost free. I'm not sure you could buy the pickup and preamp for that. It arrived set up quite well and even in tune. I spent a lot of time doing a further setup. The nut is plastic, but very hard, so I retained it. The saddle was cheap plastic, so I replaced it. The guitar just feels great and sounds surprisingly good. This is a great deal. Get one. Even if you have to pay for a good set up...it's still worth it. Love this guitar. It's no match for my X braced LG0, but still a great guitar.

Goergous finish

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary "1964" Caballero Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was thrilled with this guitar right out of the box. I bought the ebony model and the finish was perfect. Being ebony I expected flaws but there were none. It is the perfect size for fingerstyle and blues. Put on a set of Elixers because that's just what I do. I love Epiphone guitars. They play and sound great and are so affordable. Plus Loretta Lynn endorses them and if they are good enough for her they are more than good for me!

      History Repeats Itself...With Upgrades

      By Jimifan69

      Pros

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary "1964" Caballero Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is 1964 all over again! As an owner of an original '64 Caballero, the only difference in a blind challenge is, obviously; the difference in a guitar which is brand new and one that's 50 years old.

I have the Mahogany finished model, and thanks to Musician's Friend...It actually arrived in tune!
This is not a replacement for my '64, but a guitar I felt I needed to purchase; how often do you get an opportunity to buy a guitar and its near double for just about the same money-adjusted for inflation?

So I suggest you buy one, right now! Don't even read the rest of this review, order one now.

If you play folk, alternative or blues fingerpicking or "just a strummer"; not only will this guitar amaze you with its quality, it will also help you make friends, lose weight and in general make you rich and famous.

OK, you got me...everything after quality is up to you.But buy one before Epiphone realizes what they have one and stops production or jacks the price!
