First of all let me just say that this is a really great guitar. Right out of the box it looks amazing! I got it with the 2 year limited lifetime warranty. The factory setup was decent, but I adjusted the string height a bit lower and raised the pickups. This guitar is up to par with the Gibson sg standard and Gibson les paul goldtop 50's tribute I have. Epiphone did a great job on this one. Great sounding pickups. Excellent finish looks like it should last a long time. Stays in tune very well. Fretboard is a resin compound material which looks amazing! Much cooler than rosewood or baked maple, and gives the guitar nice tone too. Overall great guitar. I've been playing professionally for about ten years now and would use this guitar as my main instrument.

I've only had this guitar for a couple days, but straight out of the box, it had the worst set up of any guitar I've even brought (I have about 20 guitars). Massive fret buzz on four strings; the action was set far too low--most of the strings were visibly touching the frets.

I'll write another review after I get this thing set up right -- just be forewarned that if you buy this, it's probably going to take more effort than it should have to to get it right.

On the plus side, construction seems fine. It looks good. I noticed a couple very minor cosmetic flaws, but nothing major or obvious. Pickups seem great. This should be a good axe once it's step up correctly.

Weird problem with the action being so bad -- I have two other Epiphones, and both had very good action straight out of the box.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for my son for Xmas and am blown away by the overall quality! I've been playing guitar for almost 40 yrs so I know what I'm talking about. Paint, binding, fit & finish, etc. are all imacculate. Surprised to find USA pickups and real Grover tuners on an Asian guitar at this price point. Coil split functions and the gig bag are nice additional touches. Pretty decent setup right out of the box as well. Also, don't be scared away by the fingerboard material: it looks great and pretty much feels just like the ebony board that I had on my mid-70's Les Paul custom. Overall this thing competes head-on with the USA Gibsons that are marked at 2-3 times the price. There's a reason why these are continuosly on back-order. If you are a fan and/or want a solid, radical metal axe with a sick look, do not hesitate.

The epiphone thunderhorse is a pretty nice guitar. Owning the Gibson thunderhorse, I was a little disappointed in the epiphone thunderhorse. Although its a good guitar it just doesn't come close to my Gibson version. If you don't have the Gibson thunderhorse then I would buy this guitar but if you do stick with the Gibson

I cannot WAIT for the Brendon Small Epiphone Thunderhorse to finally hit the shelves!!!

I pre-ordered this months ago, and I'm still looking at the August 9th ship date and I just can't take it! I'm thinking about buying another just for the investment!!!
I love that they opted for the Silverburst finish on this, as it reflects the later seasons of Metalocalypse, and rightly so, as the original Gibson Brendon Small release flew in with flat black, in keeping with the earlier seasons :)

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

i liked the idea of push/pull pots, but when i played the les paul of equal level, i wasn't impressed by sound or feel. it seemed clunky and badly made, but i was on a budget. i thought that if the guitar was wicked looking it would slightly compensate until i could buy a "real" guitar.

i feel bad for thinking that because when i got the thunderhorse in the mail and plugged it in, it felt like many Gibson Ive tried. i love this guitar. i thought i was going to be playing metal a lot with the guys but in my spare time im playing jazz and funk. its very versatile without even changing settings on an amp. the tone is great. mine was a restock and i cant see why it was returned.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

This guitar is evidence that epiphone can in fact make a guitar that satify the needs of all players and a high quality intrument. The guitar has a neck thin enough to play fast yet full enough to fill in the empty space in your hand, much like two pieces of the puzzle that fit together. The intrument is pretty solid and and will play anything you want it to.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

For the comment above about brendon small playing the black Gibson explorer that's true but he released a Gibson version of the thunderhorse. The Gibson one was really hard to find and that's the one skwisgaar plays on the show. Not the epiphone version. I have the Gibson one and its absolutely amazing. If this epiphone is anything like my Gibson one, then people will be in for a surprise. It's such a fast playing guitar. I pre ordered this epiphone thunderhorse to hang on the wall next to my Gibson thunderhorse and autographed pic of brendon small

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

I've played a lot of cheap guitars and a handful of mid-range guitars, and this surpasses them all. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful details in the craftsmanship. Everything is pristine. The tuning gears, push-pull knobs, and toggle switch all work very smoothly.

The Gibson USA pickups sound amazing, very crisp and clear, with strong sounds when clean, lightly overdriven, or heavily distorted.

The fretboard is perfect; there is no fret buzz, sharp frets, etc. Also, the electronics are solid, with no issues.

The neck is a little on the thicker-side, so take that into consideration, but I find it very comfortable.

I got this for lower tuning, and it can really get a fairly-good Dethklok sound through my Line 6 amp. However, I love it so much, I like leaving it in standard E tuning as my main guitar. I'd love to get another one, and it's well-worth the money.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

              First the negative comments:
1.) The Thunderhorse took a bit of adjusting to get the action just right, and even so, there are a couple of places where the notes just don't ring like they should. Mostly around the 14th – 16th fret on the B and high E.
2.) This thing is a giant chunk of wood. I bang into everything with it, mic stands, amps, waitresses, vocalists, etc.
              The good parts:
1.) The sounds you can get from this thing are vast, sundry and useful! The coil tapping makes this guitar more versatile than I expected it to be. The Burstbuckers sound great and both pickups are very clear and useable. The switching and coil tapping give you 8 pickup configurations to help widen your tone pallet.
2.) The neck is comfortable and fast! This guitar feels so comfortable and the neck lends itself to accuracy and speed.
3.) It is a cool looking guitar. I get more questions and "can I hold/touch/fondle/play it" than any of my others.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

This guitar is awesome. Exact same specs as the Gibson version at a fraction of the price with the added bonus of coil splitting, and a custom gigbag. The silverburst looks way better in person compaired to the pictures online. The neck is a little on the thicker side, but you can still move up and down really quick. I went to Las Vegas to see a friend and while I was down there I went to see if they had 1 of 6 guitars I am and was interested in. This being one of them. I tried it out and it felt like a perfect fit. I originally planned on buying it online after I got the chance to see if I liked it. I liked it so much I baught it that same day. Mainly because I didn't want to wait X amount of days for it to be shipped to my house and run the risk of it being damaged when I got it. Would highly recommend to anyone who plays metal or hard rock. Just buy it. You won't be disappointed.

This guitar has excellent tone. It's powerful, yet it's coil tapping makes it sing nearly as well as my Strat. Great guitar for anything.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

As a fan of Metalocalypse, I had wanted to buy one of the first run of Gibson Thunderhorse Explorers. Long story short, I didn't have the money at the time so I got the Epiphone. Although made in China, the build quality is excellent. The pickups are able to produce any tone I want, making this a very versatile guitar. Out of the box, the action was higher than I prefer, so I lowered it and reset the intonation. The gig bag that comes with the guitar seems pretty nice. Good padding and well shaped to make the Explorer body seem smaller than it is. Tone and sustain are remarkable. The large mahogany body and smooth mahogany neck generate nice warm tones that are easily brightened by use of the bridge pickup. The push/pull coil tapping allows for even more tonal options. I would recommend this guitar for any style of music and any experience level.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Brendon Small Thunderhorse Explorer Electric Guitar:

This is a swell knock-off of the Explorer for a fraction of the cost, plus this one has the coil-splitter pots.

The only drawback on this Chinese-made version is the quality control at the manufacturer. Two items right off the bat: The low E tuner was turned about 10-degrees ccw from where it should be. This does not alter ability to tune, but it isn't in line with the other 5 tuners. This could be corrected if the new screw hole doesn't cross-thread to original hole. Also, the paint had some minor dirt flecking under the clear coat. Simply running a cleaner paint booth and inspecting the planks before clearcoating would have corrected this.

Overall: a good value, but not minty-mint like you'd expect from the factory. Probably the reason this was restocked. Someone who bought it at Retail realized it wasn't perfect for the money.
