I just received this beauty the other day. First impressions looks wise, were amazement. This is a very stunningly beautiful guitar. I got the red sparkle one. First negative I have is, I think it's almost embarrassing that epiphone claims to "set up" each guitar in the US because this guitar was not even close to being considered "set up". I am not really a guitar set up snob or something with very specific needs. I just think that the condition it came in was ridiculous. The neck was bent, electronics loose, rattling in the bridge, loose screws, it was hardly put together! If you get the RED SPARKLE version you get Gold Hardware (not silver/nickle like the blue and silver sparkle versions). The first day I had the guitar, the gold glimmered and shimmered. BY THE SECOND day, the gold hardware was already rubbed off!! Hah, it was a joke! I've had it a week and it looks like its been used for 5 years! The gold hardware is just ridiculous, to even call it gold colored is far fetched. Now for the good: This guitar is absolutely beautiful, it is the most eye catching LP there is, even out of the custom shop. After you set the guitar up properly and put some new strings on, this is an amazing thick sounding guitar. It just has that heavy chunk you can't get out of a knock off. Last thing, if you do not know how to properly set up a guitar, Have someone do it professionally. IT WILL BE THE BEST MONEY YOU WILL SPEND. Seriously, I cannot stress this enough. GET IT SET UP PROFESSIONALLY. Amazing guitar, at an amazing price.

I know i already put up a review already. but after a couple of months of playing, i began to realize a few VERY IMPORTANT MALFUNCTIONS!!!! the first bad thing that began to happen, and already happened twice, was that the volume of the bridge pickup was screwing up bad. when the volume was at zero, that vol. was off (usual), but when you turned it up 1/2 way, that was the loudest it got! and when it got to 10, the vol. was off again!!! Like i said before, this has already happened twice. And IMO, the biggest screw-up with this guitar was the frets, which are the most important part of any guitar. I just realized this about 2 weeks ago, when i started to solo more often. THE FRETS ARE NOT PARTED THE DISTANCE THEY SHOULD BE!!!!!!!!! the difference in the 1st fret and the 13th fret is about a 1/2 step down on all of the strings! it's a problem you CAN'T FIX on the guitar! and this thing was $600! Terrible quality of the guitar, especially considering the price. Looks great, but that's it.if you are only buying a guitar for its looks, then this is the guitar for you!

Tone for days

By colonel86

from Kentucky

I have been playing for 30 years and have had great guitars in the past. I was really in the market for a Gibson LP. I played hundreds from Florida to Kentucky, I found a 1960 LP Gold Top that was awesome, but for $30,000.00 a bit out of my price range. This guitar was by far the best sounding I found.I was not really looking for flake painted guitar, but it grew on me. The neck is a little thick but I like it. You cant go wrong, but play lots though till you find one with the tone you like, as they will all sound different and sometimes better than Gibson.

Best guitar I've ever owned.

By GladToBeBack

from Detroit, MI

i had an Epi Lp Special II before and this blew it away. The look is amazing, the thing shimmers still after having it and playing it nearly every day for 6 months. I put the ernie ball skinny top heavy bottoms on it to give it some more raunch but it plays wonderfully. I did have to replace the nut last week, but that could have because the .52 E string I use. Other than that, no complaints. Grover tuners hold the tune nicely, once my strings were broken in I would rarely have to make adjustments to tuning more than once a week. I play rhythm and lead with it and both sound phenom. I'm very satisifed.

Great Guitar for the Price

By Guitar Bum Drew

from San Francisco CA

I bought both the silver flake and the blue metallic versions of this guitar. I decided I like the Blue one best and upgraded everything on it so that it is now Blue with gold hardware and gold pickups (I might put active EMGs on it still....but it looks better with gold than silver). As far as quality goes, I thought it was just fine stock, at least for 90 percent of the people that would be buying it. For the "picky" 10 percent out there, basically new tuners and nicer pickups and pots....and you'll have yourself a real SHOW STOPPER....cuz it REALLY looks great in front of a spotlight, really.Otherwise, it plays just like you would expect from any good Les Paul, at any price.

Just upgrade the electronics! It would be perfect

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I wanted to buy this guitar the second I seen and played it. So I did. The sound is amazing. It sounds like a les paul all day long. But you may have some electronics issues. It's worth it to spend a few hundred bucks and upgrade the pots and the pickups. Mine is still stock but in a week a plan to dismantle it and upgrade the tuners, bridge, pickups, and pots. quit whining about the short comings of this guitar. If you expected it to be flaweless then maybe you guys should have bought an actual gibson. I love my guitar and it works great.

Fantastic!

By Hendrixthe2nd

I bought this guitar when it was on sale because it was too much of a deal to pass up. The guitar came set up superbly. I guess I may have lucked out and got a good one because this thing kicks major ass. At first, I didn't find the finish to be that great, it looked different than I expected but once I got it out in some light and played it.. the thing was Stunning to say the least. The guitar blew me away once I played it. I spent too much time reading about all the reviews, blogs and info dogging epiphone quality but this guitar, right out of the box was incredible. Great hardware, sustains for days. If your interested, I'd recommend trying it.. maybe you'll get one like mine :)

beautiful with guts

By suburban366

from Shreveport louisiana

could not believe the inspectors ever looked at this guitar they must have just open the box and placed stickers on it! It took a lot of work toset this ax up. from the action to the tail. The strings were about a quarter of an inch of the neck. The strut rod was literally loose.NOW for the good! after all this it is incredable inrich sound, equal in ever way to myGibson les paul. The finish is very lovely! All of the electronics are the way they should be.I highly recomend this for anyone. If you are not a luther or guitar tech take it to one to have it set up AND I asure you it will be a prize worthy of owning

Blue Sparkle Epi LP

By www.nobodysdog.com

from Indianapolis, IN

I own over 50 guitars, This one is a bit overpriced...after changing out some parts, I set it up to play about as good as any that I have, the finish is a bit thin (not near as deep as my earlier model epi purple metalflake. It has a thicker neck and overall construction is very nice though...my biggest peave is the finish....looks cheap compared to my others.

Very Sweet Axe !!!

By alice axeman

from ontario, canada

I just got this axe in mail yesterday. I must say I was very happy when I opened it. Unlike the epi sparkle issues in 00,01 this model has sparkle flake on the entire body. Back of neck, back of body, back of headstock, etc. Very Sexy !! This axe is of the same quality as my other 7 epiphones. Great value for the $$. Put some duncan's or dimarzio's in and your set to rock !!This guitar will look and sound awesome for my Alice Cooper tribute band. If your looking for a "unique" axe that just ooze's rock & roll, check out these epi's. They are too much !!!
