This guitar is purely amazing. First of all, right out of the box I didnt have to set up the action. The EMG's tonal response well exceeded my expectations. The neck feels so good and its perfect for fast riffs and screaming solos. The body with the black hardware is just stunning. I would have never expected this good of a guitar. The quality and craftsmanship put into this beauty is superior to half the gibsons ive played. This is my new jem, I just can't put it down. If you want a screaming les paul, get this one!! It's well worth the money. Very Well Done Epiphone!!!!
This guitar is amazing. EMGs are insane. Switch out the strings as soon as you get this though. I play with GHS ZWs and they really sing through those EMGs. Craftsmanship is great. I highly recommend this guitar, you won't be disappointed.
The guy below is an idiot. Gibson owns Epiphone. Not everyone an drop a grand on a low quality Gibson. Thats why Epiphone is here. To provided good guitars for minimum price.
I just got this guitar and it is awesome. The EMG buckers are increadible. This guitar is great for playing all kinds of music. The clean tone is excellent and when plugged into distortion you can easily sound like Metallica or any metal group. Overall this guitar looks and sounds great. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a solid ax without spending a fortune.
Great guitar. The looks, sound, and playability of this guitar is outstanding. Seems like these guitars coming out of Korea are getting better and better. The Emg's really make this guitar an outstanding value. Grover tuners, tuneomatic bridge, and the multiply binding really set this ax off.
This guitar is exactly what i wanted to see out of epiphone... a Les Paul with EMG's thats affordable. Epiphone's quality compared to their price is very good. Adding EMG's to an already solid instrument was definetley the way to go. Definetley good bang for your buck.
Very nice guitar for the price. I have a transparent black sunburst les paul that I put zakk EMGs in and I would say I prefer the 81, 85 combination over the two 81s, but still this guitar is smoking hot and the easy access battery door that they put in on the back cover was a brilliant idea. The playability of the neck and fretboard is awesome, and intonation was perfect straight out of the box. Don't waste your time on the regular epiphone les when you can get this one with the EMGs for the same price.
This guitar is no con as described in previous reviews... This guitar lives up to its name and stands equally to any high end les pauls. This guitar is armed with two high powered emg pickups made to shred and is built with flawless quality. Don't allow your decition to come down to the fact it's not a Gibson, this guitar is so much more than something that should be judged by brand over quality. Honestly, this guitar has everything anyone could want in Gibson for a fraction of the cost not to mention a rare find of a modern metal look in a classic guitar. This guitar is great although, the only thing I recommend is to change the bridge pickup to an 85 emg, to have the classic 81 85 emg combo.
For one, my job consists of trying out every piece we get in our store. Checking for flaws. I do this so I can use it as a selling point and I am honest in my reviews. This guitar is built like a TANK. The EMG's are absolutely one of the most powerful sounding pickups that I've played. The frets are nicley dressed. The rosewood is extremely dark and smooth. I have always hated the sound of a clean Les Paul. The clean pure sound of a Strat is in my opinion way better But with these EMG's it's not all that bad. Beautiful sound not as chimmy as a single coils but this has some of the punch of a Strat. Through a Dirty amp this thing has a great blues tone. Infinite sustain. Through a High gain amp this baby Screams. The bridge Has that crunch that's chunky yet holds it's brighntess. The neck Pickup sounds like Zakk's Grail dead on. Perfect Guitar for the price. The only reason I didn't give it 10 stars on overall this would be better with an ebony fretboard.
My friend owns this guitar and it plays like a dream. The action is perfect and has no buzz anywhere. It has great treble levels as well as bass levels....very well balanced. I would get this guitar before the price goes up.
This guitar is honestly great. The playbility is great and the dual emg's have a killer tone. Also I would like to comment ont he person that said this was a con. Well first of all they are like gibsons and copy gibsons because epiphone is gibson. Gibson owns epiphone. *news flash* Epi makes some really nice guitars. This is one of them. And also, the eprson shouldnt be mad because they were stupid enough to drop the damn thing. The person has no idea what theyre talking about. This guitar is nice.
Well, I would just like to set the record to the guy up there. Epiphone is a Branch Company of Gibson. Therefore they have a right to use Gibson designs and logo style lol. Anyway If you enjoyed playing the zakk wylde bullseye model, you will have a blast with this one, Minus the maple neck. The EMGs really make this guitar growl, and scream. I run the guitar through a Mesa Triple Rectifier, with a shot of a Boss SD-1. Use that combo, and you will be on top of the world!!! Buy it!!!
Whether this is your first guitar or your hundredth this guitar will serve you well. All black hardware with Emg 81 active pickups. This axe screams even better than it looks wich is saying somthing. It has a set neck with a rosewood fretboard on an alder/mahogany body. Grover tuners and beautiful block inlays really set this Epi off. The cream and black binding is gorgeous and really goes well with the black finish. This is really an awesome guitar at an awesome price. MF has sold out of these babies but I think you can still get a refurbished one. If you can get your hands on this guitar you won't be disappointed. Great job Epiphone!
I dont know how anyone could not like it. Its like a cheeper Kirk Hammett signature series
Since I love all things limited edition and needed a new guitar anyway, I though I would try this out. The action is super and it has awesome sustian. I've been playing through my effects processor and headphones for about a week, and finally hooked it up to my friends Marshall stack and started playing some Pantera and LOA. It blew us both away. It looks mean and sounds like it to. Great for hard core and blues. My only complaint is it comes with useless strings. You can't beat the price.
No, it's no Gibson but Epi's owned by Gibson so that's why they can use the same body and logo designs but anywho, this does play very well. I've never been a fan of Ibenez bc of how thin and tin sounding they seem. This guitar has some heft to it. I played it at the local store and it's pretty much the Zakk Wylde with active emg's and minus the paint job...give or take. I still prefer the raw maple neck tho
Wow! The frets were flawless, the finish was like a mirror - which suprised me because it looks flat on the webpage. One tiny sliver of binding was all I found wrong when it arrived. The sound will blow you away - crisp clean sound, add some overdrive/distortion and it'll grow ya some chest-hair. Set-up was perfect right out of the box - even in tune! This is a great buy!
This guitar is killer. It's set-neck and mahogany body creates a great tone, and the EMGs will rip your face off. Anyone who says "Oh, Epiphone is just a Gibson knockoff" is wrong. Mahogany is mahogany, no matter the name on the headstock. And the stuff about them copying Gibson is stupid, too. How can they copy Gibson? Epiphone IS Gibson! Just like Squire is Fender and Charvel is Jackson.
This is a beautiful guitar at a fantastic price. It will be a long, long time before I am too good a player for this guitar! The playing action is low, and I have had no problems with fret buzz. I just love the look and feel of the guitar, the neck is smooth and fast.I am completely happy with this guitar.
I've played for 25 years. This guitar is an outstanding value. For the guy claiming they are copying Gibson he needs to know Epiphone is owned by Gibson. This guitar is built well and plays great. The EMG 81's are very nice. Play this through a Marshall tube amp and you get that exact les paul/marshall tone we all know and love! Forget the posers, listen to a pro. For the money this guitar is unbeatable.
