OVERVIEW

Learn to play guitar on a classic advanced jumbo.

The Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 Acoustic Guitar shares the classic Advanced Jumbo style acoustic that’s been making history for nearly a century, now built especially for new players. The Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 sets a new standard for entry-level instruments without sacrificing tone, style, or quality. The new AJ-100 is available only at Select Epiphone Dealers

The first “100” series guitar, the Epiphone DR-100 “Dreadnought” style, has been Epiphone’s best-selling acoustic guitar for over a decade and is renown for its bold tone. The new AJ-100 "Advanced Jumbo" or sloped shoulder acoustic guitar is just as famous for having a slightly sweeter tone that’s perfect for both leading a band and for solo singers.

The AJ-100 features a mahogany body and a select spruce top, one of the premier tonewoods for superior acoustic sound. The select spruce top is braced internally in the same style as vintage "Advanced Jumbo" guitars to give the AJ-100 its trademark up-front tone. The mahogany neck has a SlimTaper "D" profile that’s easy to hold for long hours of play. The neck is glued to the body and hand-set so the entire guitar resonates as if it were a single piece of wood. The Mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard with a 12 in. radius and 20 Medium Jumbo frets. The bigger the frets, the easier it is on your fingers when learning to press down strings and form chords. The neck is fully adjustable via a truss rod under the traditional Epiphone & Gibson "bell-shaped" cover. The AJ-100 also has a rosewood bridge with a compensated saddle for consistent intonation.

Tuning the Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 is easy with Epiphone machine heads with a 14:1 that make learning to tune easy, intuitive, and best of all–fast and accurate.

Since I work away from home, I bought this guitar to keep at work so I wouldn't have to travel with one. I honestly didn't expect the guitar I got for the price. It looked like an excellent deal on SDOTD, so I figured what the heck. It's a good guitar, period. It stays in tune. It's easy to chord. It looks fantastic and sounds great! I have been playing guitar for 20+ years and have played some awful acoustic guitars that cost considerably more than this one. This is a good deal even at the regular price. This would be PERFECT for someone to learn on. Based on the guitar that I received, don't hesitate to buy this one.

Comments about Epiphone Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar was bought as an experiment. When it arrived it was setup well for a cheaply made guitar. The finish looked very good. -

It was bought with the intention of taking the finish off the top and sides. And drilling a sound port (hole) in the side. It turned out very well. While taking the finish off you realize a few things. One is how much polyurethane chokes the tone out of guitars. Especially finishes that are this thick. Another thing is you find out is that the "rosette" is a thinly painted on fake. Not surprising at this price point. You also find out how thinly layered is the laminated top. -

This guitar experiment was planned to be tuned down a full step ( D to D). And I used very heavy gauged strings with this tuning. D'Addario EJ18 14 to 59's. -

It turned out great in the end. If you're willing to do a little work on the guitar such as a fret level and dress. It's a good guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 Acoustic Guitar:

This 79 buck guitar was the biggest surprise ever! I really didn't expect much, and was having second thoughts after I placed the order. I bought the sunburst version on a SDOTD as a total impulse buy. I have several expensive acoustics, and I don't need a cheap guitar. But I have to say, this is a really nice instrument. The fit and finish is above average, with relatively smooth fret ends and a huge sound. The tuners, however inexpensive, work as intended and stay in tune. The sunburst finish is lovely, with only one small thumbnail scratch. The neck joint is well done, and the neck has a comfortable full feeling. Epiphone has improved the "E" symbol on the pickguard, it is made into the plastic, and not glued on and wanting to fall off like on the older Epiphones. The rosette appears to be painted on, but it looks good regardless. The bridge (rosewood) is solidly attached to the top, with no lifting or gaps. The body has a white plastic binding front and back that is well executed. The rosewood fretboard is attractive with nice grain. And the sound! This guitar has a huge, loud sound for a laminate guitar. Tomorrow I plan to replace the original strings with some quality mediums, which can only make it sound even better. One odd feature is a false truss rod cover, held in place with three wood screws. There is nothing under it! The access to the truss rod is inside the sound hole. I did have to remove some glue from around the truss rod adjusting nut inside the guitar. Quite frankly, the quality and sound of the Epiphone just blows me away! If I had to sell all of my other acoustics and only keep this one, I would be content. It's that good!

Comments about Epiphone Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar for a friend's 15 year old son that said he wanted to learn to play guitar. It arrived in a few days, and I went to set it up and it was already fairly well set up straight out of the box. neck is straight, string action was good, and I was able to adjust it even better. I tuned it up and played it for a while and I was really impressed by the sound, comfort and feel of this INEXPENSIVE (not cheap) guitar. I gave it to him and he was very happy with it, and plays it every day. I highly reccomend this guitar for anyone just starting out. excellent student guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 Acoustic Guitar:

I picked this guitar up on a pre-Christmas special for a ridiculous price. I'd bought the Epiphone PR-150 about a year and a half ago and I just loved that guitar. I knew I'd get another model eventually. I've really come to like Epiphone acoustic guitars. The AJ-100 is a more compact than the big PR-150. My interest was piqued for that reason. So I decided to get one.

Out of the box I was knocked out by the look of the guitar. But most important is the sound. The guitar has a very sweet, warm tone. With bright highs (not too tinny) and robust mids and lows. At first I had an issue with the intonation and attenuation of the guitar between the individual strings. The neck tuned out fine. Even though I loved the appearance of this particular guitar—very nice workmanship: the top and back are gorgeous—I was giving consideration to sending the it back. So, as a last resort, I changed the strings out with a new set of D'Adarrios. That did the trick!

And ever since, the guitar has been quickly developing a rich, full tone. Very nice. For the price, there's not a better guitar out there. The one I got is a real beauty and I'm looking forward to playing it at my next gig. At some point I would like to put new tuners on this (as with the PR-150) guitar, as the stock Epiphone standard issues leave a bit to be desired. But changing tuners on an Epiphone guitar is easier said than done. So that upgrade will have to wait until I can find better tuners that will fit. Ultimately: Great guitar. Great sound. Easy to play. I can't put it down. Now the PR-150 is jealous.

Comments about Epiphone Ltd. Ed. AJ-100 Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar on Stupid Deal. I am very pleased with it. It benefitted from small adjustment to the trussrod with the included wrench, but would have played fine out of the box. The finish is nice and intonation is very good on open chords - probably due to the compensated bridge. The tone is comparable to most mass produced acoustics for a lot less money.
I have not yet recorded with it, but expect that it will have good results. I like using different guitars on tracks to enhance the separation. This guitar plays and stays in tune, so it's good to go.

I got this open box …everything looks great needed lil saddle lowered the neck is falling off at the 12th fret which don't affect the playing now i've never seen a neck like that but if it was the other way a ski slope at the end of the fret board it would be a problem so -one star for that but i got a good price on it as a gift it will be great.

I wanted a guitar for travel and to keep in my classroom so that I would not be worried about it being destroyed. I purchased this on a Stupid Deal special, and I could not be happier about the value this guitar provided. I did replace the nut and bridge with bone and the bridge pins with ebony. It was a quick and cheap fix, even with the files I bought to do the nut slots. With a proper setup this guitar is unbeatable
                              in look, feel, and tone.

I bought this as a throw around guitar and because I've owned a few Epiphone guitars now. This still surprises me how well it plays. Actually a little better than my expensive one. It sounds good and because of the bridge, has really good intonation. Unless the wood splits or the neck twists in the future, this is a winner!
