The DR500M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar has a traditional dreadnought shape crafted with solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top for great warm tone.
With the Masterbilt DR-500M Epiphone revives the prestige of its 1930s guitars. This flat-top guitar features solid wood construction and a distinctive 1930s-style "offset notch" peghead shape with historic Epiphone script logo and mother-of-pearl "stickpin" inlay.
The DR-500M is the quintessential flat-top guitar and has other features that include quality vintage-style Grover Sta-Tite 16:1 ratio machine heads; bone nut and saddle; imitation tortoise pickguard; nickel hardware; and a bound body, neck, and headstock.

I've owned mine for 2 years. Bought it after visiting the Martin factory and wanting a Martin. While doing the "try them all" ritual at a local guitar store, I found this in a corner (customer return), and thought it looked and sounded comparable to the mid-range ($2000-$3000) Martins, so I got it instead. Other than the lack of prestige and the gauche "Guaranteed" sticker inside the sound hole, I have not regretted buying it. I play with steel fingerpicks, and it responds well to aggressive play. Workmanship is first-rate regardless of the semi-slave labor used to construct it. Case is among the best I've seen. Matte finish is classy.

i thought the Masterbilt line from Epi' was supposed to be good (the entire body is solid wood). i researched b4 buying but it was in vain. think i'll try a Seagull SWS or a Breedlove. sure, i'd like a Martin, Taylor, Gibson etc......... but since i don't make my living playing guitar, can't really justify the expense. i wouldn't even recommend this as a starter guitar, a Dean will do fine. in the end, thanks to MF's customer service, i'm sending it back.
something to be desired here- disappointing. the neck is surrounded by plastic and the heel cap is covered in plastic too. the fretbd is weird. hard to describe why, but the fretbd seems to resist string bending, i don't understand it.
perhaps i rec'd a lemon but mine (bought it new from MF not level 1) had scratches/scuffs on 4 of the tuning machines, then i noticed that the bottom of the bridge had a small divet in the wood. again, its new, how does that happen? lack of QA/QC? a sticker on the back of the head says "100% inspected and set-up in the usa". somebody is not doing thier job. the guitar itself is made in china- no surprise.
even for the price, not worth it to me.

I picked one of these up today on clearance from GC for $359 NEW! I tried 20 different guitars in the price range and none of them could touch it as far as playability and tone ... not to knock on musicians friend but i was out the door with a hardshell case and new strings for the same price.
