All I can say is WOW! Excellent workmanship with no flaws. It has a retro apperance with limited adornments, but still looks classy in an understated way. The sound is wonderful. Deep mellow base with sustain for days. Clean midrange and sparkling highs. When I play, it feels like it's alive. Fast neck with super clean fretwork. Get one before everyone finds out how good these guitars are. The Chineese have become great guitar builders. The set up is done in the USA so it has nice action with no fret buzz. And of course, solid rosewood gives wonderful sound and a great appearance. I had always hoped to own a Gibson, Martin or Taylor. But I have changed my mind. I have found my dream guitar. Even my wife is impressed. About the only thing that isn't excellent is the hygrometer. The case is very nice, but the hygrometer isn't accurate enough to rely on. Thank you Epiphone.
This guitar truly rivals the sound of many top of the line guitars. Smooth yet punch bass, round warm mids, and crisp highs. Really nice woods, and excellent finish. You really can't do any better for the price, even if you spend more you might not do any better. I'm probably going to buy one of the other models!
I am a proud owner of a Guild D55 which I enjoy very much; however, I always wanted a Martin. While search for the perfect Martin sound in the Portland, OR area, I was first introduced to the Epiphone Masterbilt line-up. After playing both Martin and Taylor acoustics, much to my surprise I left the store with a Epiphone DR 500R. Dollar for dollar nothing sounded better to my hears than the Masterbilt lineup. I have been so impressed with this guitar I have recent purchased a AJ 500ME. You can certainly pay more for a Martin, Taylor or Gibson but if it is sound and playability you are looking for; look no further. Epiphone is back!!
