A sleek design with AAA flamed top and HSH pickups with coil-splitting.

Resembling its larger Les Paul cousin but with more defined curves, the Nighthawk has become a cult favorite since it was discontinued in 1999, after only 6 years in production. The original Gibson Nighthawk was conceived in response to the demand for a more modern silhouette and a multitude of tone options. The Epiphone Nighthawk Electric Guitar features a gorgeous non-arched AAA maple top on a bound, thin-contoured, single-cutaway body and a 22-fret bound rosewood fretboard on a set mahogany neck.

You get an expanded range of tone options with the HSH pickup configuration consisting of a Slant NHT bridge humbucker, NSX single-coil middle pickup, and NHR mini-humbucker along with a 5-way pickup selector and push/pull coil-splitting for the humbuckers.

I own a 93 Gibson nighthawk bought from MF, and a Gibson Blueshawk. This model lands somewhere between those two guitars. The build quality is actually better than my Blueshawk. the binding on the fretboard and around the headstock are excellent. The neck is great, the tuners are quality and hold pitch, my first gig proved that this guitar stays in tune and plays like a dream. Compared to the Gibson Nighthawk, the pickups are not as hot, but this is not a bad thing. This guitar has nine tones; and all are usable with a character unique to this guitar. Are the tones worse than the Gibson? No; I like this guitar very much, it is a tone machine, but it does sound different than my Gibson nighthawk. My previous main guitar was a Fender Strat. I also have a fender California deluxe tele. Of my five electric guitars (2 Gibson, 2 Fenders) this will become my main gigging guitar. The only negative to this guitar was one minute sanding flaw that is noticeable only on close inspection. No one will ever notice it besides me. Otherwise the guitar was remarkable. I have never owned an Epiphone before, and I was hesitant, but this guitar is remarkably well built. I am proud play it.the guitar was well set up on arrival, but of course, as we all do, I made adjustments to suit me, and now this guitar is awesome. The unique pick up arrangement, string through, longer scale length, set neck, angled headstock make for a guitar that serves up the best of gibson and Fender and makes you feel like your standing on stage with two guitars in one.Oh, I should say this too, although this is a non american made guitar, it sure doesn't seem like it. I don't see how Epiphone is maintaining this quality control, but it seems to be working, and make this a guitar a worthy investment.

I'll have to change the controls, change the bridge pickup, and add some mass to the rear of the guitar in order to make it a player. Too much work that should have been done at the factory. I a good deal on this guitar, but after all the mods I'll have to do to get it sounding decent I'd have been money ahead by ordering some Seymore Duncan pickups and just taking a router and soldering iron to one of my junky old Kramers. Doing that would have gotten me the same switching capabilities without the investment in this Epiphone.
I mostly play Gibsons and Peaveys, but I like a single coil sound so I bought a nice Strat. I can't play it the way I usually do my Gibsons and Peaveys because my struming hand hits the volume knob and turns it down. I saw this Epiphone guitar and thought "A Gibson style body and a set neck with Fender switching? I'll take it!" The volume knob is in exactly the same relative location to the bridge pickup as is the one on a Strat, so I still have the same inadvertently-turning-it-down problem. The balance is bad (it's neck-heavy) which makes it annoying to play for long periods. I do like the single/dual coil switching possibilities, but the pickups in humbucker mode are really muddy (probably the pots and caps, see below) and eally can't be made to sound balanced. In single-coil mode they work much better. The controls designer apparently forgot to take the single/dual coil change in impedance into account when figureinout what pots and caps to use.
Luthierwork, fit, and finish are pretty good, or at least as good as I could expect from Indonesia. No finish flaws I've found yet. There was some weird residue on the pickup surrounds which took a lot of effort to clean off. Pots are absolute junk and (with the caps) are mismatched to the pickup impedance in humbucker mode. They will be immediately replaced with some properly-spec'd decent quality parts.
For the cost of this I expected better quality hardware and electronics. The value rating is reduced because of the necessity of replacing the controls and pickups in order to make the guitar sound proper. Will probably replace the slanted humbucker with the Seymore Duncan JB. I would not take this guitar on stage without replacing the controls and at least the bridge pickup.

I've been dealing with your company for over 10 years and I've never been let down. The gear that I purchased over these years has always been exactly what I wanted and was at the best price quoted online of any other website. I don't have to buy at local retailers either. I love to play and, especially the gear that I buy from you. The axe that I just bought was perfect and it was easy to set-up. I like to buy gear from you and will definitely keep buying in the future. I have a few items that I have on my wish list and I will be buying in the next couple of weeks. Keep up the good work and may God bless you.

Been playing this at gigs weekly for over a year now. Plays as well or better than the many other great guitars that I own (around 50), many new and old Fenders and Gibsons included. I love the feel and sound - truly a cross between classic Fender and Gibson. For the money, it just can't be beat for overall quality and versatility.

Comments about Epiphone Nighthawk Electric Guitar:

This guitar is light, comfortable, with great playability. My luthier says electronics better than average. He dressed the fretts, installed a bone nut, and I always have him put a metal input plate. The tones I can get out of this thing is sick.Coil tapping and three pickups give you NINE different tonallities.Mini humbucker is a real treat.Tones from Telecaster plinks, Strat quacks, and full humbucker tones are at your command. Doesn't cry like my Les Paul. This is a pickers guitar not crazy about placement of volume control but it is something you get used to real easy.Gets a lot of attention too! Great Guitar go try one out. Bet you take it home...

Comments about Epiphone Nighthawk Electric Guitar:

Bought one of these for my father-in-law last week. WOW what a nice little player this is. I cannot believe the number of different tones that come out of this guitar. Ya like everyone is saying Strat to Tele to Les type sounds or at least close enough but still putting out its own voice ya know? Set up was bang on right off the shelf at the shop which is weird ya. The fingerboard is so smooth, it states rosewood, but it could be that new richlite or something .... dark and super tight grain. Finish is gorgeous (got the honeyburst). I'm not a huge fan of the Epiphone headstock unless its bound, and the binding on this looks perfect everywhere. The factory that produced this has done a fabulous job. Tuners are tight. Nothing bad to say about this guitar. Im no serious players, but the clean tones on this are outrageous. For the cost I cannot beleive the value here. You might have to get over the non-traditional look, but once you do man o man. I might have to get one for myself now.

I went out on a limb in this purchase.Had heard good things about this Epi, and I wasn't disappointed!High E kept going flat, so when I started re-stringing with 10-46, it snapped off in my hand.Had to re-do intonation, and string height, since it came a little high for my tastes. Now, it's one of the first guitars I grab. Very nice finish.Any defects u would need magnifying glass to discover.Must be chambered body, it's so light. My chiropractor would like it!

Comments about Epiphone Nighthawk Electric Guitar:

Incredible! I bought the Epiphone Nighthawk Custom Reissue last week, the guitar is amazing.

I'm 50 years old and have owned 3 Gibson LP's, 75 LP Deluxe, 80 LP Custom and a 99 LP Smartwood. I have also owned a mid 80s American made Strat, 82 Ibanez Destroyer II and a 83 Ibanez 335 Style semi-hollow body. My point being I have owned a number of guitars that are all professional quality. Unfortunatly I don't own any of those anymore. I do own an 81 Alvarez Yari DY51 Acoustic and a 11 Epi LP Custom Blackback. The Blackback is a great guitar and I'm very happy with the quality of it.

That brings me to the Epi Nighthawk Custom Reissue. As I stated in the first paragraph its and amazing guitar.

The build of this guitar is as good as any other guitar I have ever owned, quality, quality, quality. I have never owned a guitar that didn't need a setup right out of the box this one doesn't, the action and intonation are perfect. The pickups on this are killer and are hugely responsive to how hard you hit them or backoff the volume control. Epiphone says that with the 3 pickups, the 5 way selector switch and the coil splitter you have 9 different sounds from this guitar. I think if you know how to use the volume and tone controls effectively you can double that number. Epiphone specs on this guitar say the fretboard is Rosewood, it is as black as any Ebony I have seen and the grain is very tight unlike Rosewood. I'm not sure it is Ebony but I am very sure it is not Rosewood. Whatever it is it, looks great and whatever it adds to the tone, works. The bridge with it individual string height and length adjustment make for a perfectly in-tune guitar. The tuners are Grovers, they feel great and do what they are supposed to do. The Mother of Pearl inlays are beautiful and the Nickel (not chrome) hardware really gives the guitar a classy look. When I originally saw this page on the web site I liked all the colors but the Honeyburst. When I started looking at these in stores the Honeyburst looks nothing like it does pictured here. The picture here is yellow tone and actually the guitar is more of a burnt orange tone, It reminds me of the fall colors I'm seeing outside. It is the color I bought and after seeing all the different finishes I think its the best looking.

I would recomend this guitar to anyone who is playing or wants to play guitar, this has got to be one of the best values you will find with any brand of guitar. Just to be clear I am not saying this is an amazing guitar for the price, I am saying its an amazing guitar AND an amazing price.

                Try this thing out!

it feels great and looks great. the neck is a slim feel it not super thick and fat. It has an SG feeling neck. The flamed maple on the top looks great, i have the fireburst one. The only problem i have is that the bridge and middle pickups are weak. at first i thought they didnt work at all but the people that put the guitar together didnt level them out. one side was almost inside the guitar while the other was near touching the strings. after that was sorted out the bridge works fine but the single in the middle is very weak with overdrive and doesnt work at all on a clean tone. i manily use the neck pickup so this isnt too much of a problem, but i like knowing everything on my guitar works. Overall i still absolutely love this guitar. it does sound amazing and its absolutely beautiful as well. The coil splitting lets you get stratocaster sounds from single pickups and the standard switching lets you get the deep power of a les paul. I highly recommend getting this instrument, just make sure to check the pickups first.
