Had this SE Performer for a couple of months now. Not a bad guitar, but there are a couple of things that they could do better. 1. A more secure mounting for the neck/sound hole pick up. 2. Closer attention in Q.A. regarding hardware overall. The cable jack located in the end pin at the bottom of the lower bout came loose and almost fell inti the guitar. I had to destring and scrunch my hand up there with a pair of needle nose pliers to re-tighten the inside retainer nut. Other than that and a pokey job on the nut groove filings (Low E is difficult to tune because of inconsistent spacing in the string groove) and the on board tuner being a quarter to an 8th step low, it's pretty nice. Good clear note articulation, nice comfortable neck, and great stage presence.
i bought my performer "used" on ebay and got a great deal. the guitar sounds best plugged in; unplugged its a little thin sounding, but maybe better strings will help. its a nice looking guitar and i have no complaints on workmanship, especially for the low price. its one of the best low priced guitar I could find. I use it to go jam with, saving my Martin for special occaisions. In this role, the Performer SE meets my expectations.
I played three of these at a local shop and the third one felt "right", so I bought it. It has a great neck that is very playable, and after years of playing bass before switching to guitar it's great to gig without having a sore shoulder and back. Love the sound of the pickups and the on-board tuner has been mentioned by many of my friends as a feature they would like to have. They play Martin's and Taylor's...and they do sound better, but for the price and the features I think this guitar is a good buy. Just don't pay retail for this or any instrument. Haggling is accepted at most shops.
