OVERVIEW

An excellent choice for aspiring guitarists to work on their chops without killing their bank account.

The easy-to-afford dreadnought Epiphone PR-150 is the perfect instrument to get started on. It has classic looks, great tone, and is made to be road tough. Like all worthy acoustic guitars, it begins and ends with tonewoods, and the PR-150 Epiphone chose a select spruce top and mahogany body for a classic sound that's balanced, clear, and will only get better with age and lots of playing. The rosewood bridge and synthetic bone saddle are a perfect match for the resonant profile of the select spruce top. The vintage-style soundhole is supported by a tortoiseshell-style pickguard with the '60s era "E" logo. The SlipTaper 25.5" scale mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, a 12" radius, a 1.68" nut, premium die-cast 14:1 tuners, and the classic '60s era Sloped Dovewing headstock. The Epiphone's all-nickel hardware will last as long as you play the guitar and the PR-150 comes in two color finishes, Natural (NA) and Vintage Sunburst (VS). Choose the finish you want in the drop down menu above.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

This was my second purchase from Musician's Friend and I continue to be impressed with the quality, price and condition of their products. My Epiphone PR-150 (Vintage Sunburst) sounds as great as it looks...and it looks AWESOME! Holds tune after lengthy jammin', excellent craftsmanship and the finishing detail is what you would expect from a much more expensive guitar. I hesitated to get the Sunburst finish, now it is one of the things I like best about it. It's so easy to play and sounds so good it actually inspires me to practice! Great right out of the box. My brother suggested some high quality strings, but I can't imagine it sounding better. Quite a score for [$]

Received this guitar today, and was really looking forward to giving it as a gift. After the initial inspection, it was seen to have a crack in the neck pocket area where the neck was beginning to separate from the body. The fret edges were like razors and were not the result of a shrunken neck, but were simply poorly beveled/filed. I was not expecting to receive a 2000.00 Martin however; based on the stellar reviews, I was expecting a guitar without defects that played within the realm of an entry level guitar. The pain/cuts that would result from playing this neck alone would make a younger person quit. Honestly, how hard is it for Epiphone to take 2 long pieces of masking tape place them on the sides of the neck, and sand the edges of the frets? The guitar says "setup in the USA". Obviously, setup in the USA means a truss rod adjustment only without a quality inspection. As of now it is on the way back to MF and I am waiting for them to receive it so they can send out another one. Hoping the 2nd time around I get a guitar from an inspector who actually released a passable instrument. All things said, the guitar does show promise as the action is fantastic, and the stock strings make it sound very pleasing to my ears. If it were not for the neck, I would have taken care of the frets myself however; a separated neck will only get worse with time so in my case its rinse repeat. If not for the neck, this would have been a 3.5 to 4 star purchase.

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I loved this guitar from the moment that I picked it up. I believe that out of the many of the same model that is made, a few of them are stand outs in every category that matters in playing and enjoying an instrument. You may take 100 of a particular make and model and though they appear well nigh identical, a few of them are simply going to be better to play and listen to. I feel like I got one of those. I have played guitars at every monetary value level and yes, it is the general rule that the more expensive a guitar, the better it is made, plays and sounds. But this is not always the case. I played a VERY expensive acoustic Gibson and a high end Martin. Both had marvelous action of course. I know that these are impeccable in craftsmanship and quality but neither one of them produced an unamplified sound any better than what I hear coming from my Epi PR-150! The action on the 150 was very good when I bought it. After a few tweaks and adding solid brass bridge pins the action and tone are perfect. The neck is very slim and it feels like good electric guitar action. It plays and sounds like a dream and I can't put it down. I just got an Epi Hummingbird Pro today. It does not sound or play as well as the PR-150. I swapped the plastic bridge pegs for bone in the HBP and sanded down the bridge to perfection, so that helped a good bit. Unplugged, t is still not up to snuff with the 150 and I doubt if it ever will be. The 150 has a richness in bass as well as sparkling tone across the board. I'm pretty sure that I can tweak the electronics of the HBP to compensate. I got lucky with my 150 as a straight up acoustic non electric guitar. It will take a hell of a guitar to better it. There are some things that money can't buy. You just have to get lucky like I did. I wound up with a Cinderella guitar in my Epi PR-150.

A great starter guitar. I helped a friend by recommending a starter guitar for his son. This guitar was highly recommended and those recommendations were spot on. Low action. Looks great. Good sound, after some better strings. The price was excellent also.

I ordered two of these for my daughter and myself. When I received the guitars and saw the quality, I was shocked at how great the price was. The first guitar I ordered got lost somewhere and never received it. Customer service was so awesome. Everyone with whom I spoke was so friendly and very helpful. I would order from them again anytime.

This is the first guitar I've ever bought so I am very pleased with this guitar! Sounds great and plays easy! I don't have to press down as hard to get a good sound so my fingers don't hurt after playing. The only draw back is I have had to tune the guitar a lot. (Might just need some adjusting) Definitley satisfied with my purchase! Getting a good quality guitar for an awesome price!
