I've been wanting this guitar for years. I finally could afford it and ordered it. It took a little longer to ship than normal, maybe 3 or so days, but it was quick getting here when it shipped.

When it arrived, the setup seemed pretty excellent out of the box. I just plugged her in and played. And let me tell you, she sounded incredible. The bridge pickup gives a nice and well rounded tone in clean settings and with distortion and overdrive. No feedback issues at all so far.

The neck pickup is nice in clean, but gets muddy when you add some gain. It's not terrible but certainly not great. I'll probably get Gibson '57s for both neck and bridge.

All things considered, this is the best guitar I've owned and played and definitely worth the money.

Let's start with the positives. The Sheraton is simply stunning. The chunky neck feels great and the guitar feels substantial. It's not too heavy although it is slightly neck-heavy. Some reviewers have complained about that but it doesn't bother me at all. Some have also criticized the pickups. The bridge pickup can be a little thin sounding at times but through a good amp the pickups have not held me back from dialing in excellent blues and rock tones.

The negatives... In addition to a scratchy pickup selector switch (not really that big of a deal) my Sheraton needed a significant amount of work to get it up to snuff. I'm talking about fret leveling ($$$) to minimize obnoxious string buzz (it's still there but manageable). Also the cheap plastic nut, aside from causing tuning issues, was cut poorly. The slots were heavily biased toward the treble side which caused the high E string to fall off the fretboard constantly.

I bought this instrument from Musician's Friend as a "scratch and dent" at a significant discount (the "damage" was very minor so I'm happy with that aspect) so the money spent getting it set up didn't hurt quite as badly as if I had paid full price. All in all I would recommend the Sheraton with the warning that it may not be 100% right out of the box. While this is true for many guitars the issues with mine went beyond simply needing a setup. Now that its issues have been rectified I'm really enjoying playing it.

Right out of the box it needed a sting height and pick up height adjustment but, what a deal. This axe sounds and feels and plays great. There is nothing better in this price range and the Alnico humbuckers sound awesome.

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton II Electric Guitar:

I have several Epiphone's and a couple of Gibsons. You can't beat this 335 semi hollow guitar for the money. The finish is perfect (natural)as are the tuners and even the set up out of the box. I love the extra bling of the Sheraton including the full binding and gold hardware. The Sheraton's playability is better than My Gibson 335 studio. The frets are lower and it stays in tune much better than the Gibson. Granted, the pickups don't sound as good as the Gibsons, but that's not to say they sound bad or muddy. I give this guitar 5 stars.

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton II Electric Guitar:

I was somewhat nervous when I placed my order because of the comments others had made about having to make structural modifications. I had played this guitar many years ago and really liked it to the point I never forgot it. So after not playing for roughly 30 years, I had it in my head this was the way I wanted to go. BTW guitar is NOT like riding a bicycle! But it really is neat when the fingerings start to come back to you, without you having to think about it. I love this guitar, it's easy to play, the tone is OK (although I suspect I'll eventually get an archtop) and although not cheap, it is very reasonably priced. I bought a restock and it looks new.Speaking of looks, I really did not care about how it looks, just how it plays, but this is VERY pretty. Ironically, I suffered an arm injury just before it arrived. So I spent more time looking at it than I would have expected! It has a lovely narrow neck and I have not had any issues with fret buzz. Shipping and packing were fine. The one guilt factor I had to deal with was my local music store, who refers to Musician's Friend as the evil empire. I bought my amp, case, etc. locally, but they did not offer anything close price wise to this guitar, and in all honesty, if it had not been for Musician's Friend I probably would not have returned to playing, and for that I am greatful! I really do love this guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton II Electric Guitar:

I own a Sheraton made in the early 90's and I love this thing! Build quality is top notch all the way, and tone is exactly what you would expect from a guitar such as this. The neck pickup has a very warm jazzy sound, the bridge has a great sound for classic rock and the like, and the two combined makes for a good tone for rhythm playing and chording. Is a great guitar for the price, am enjoying playing this guitar!

Bought it new in '88, wouldn't get rid of it now. Not happy w/ bridge p/u, changed out for set of Seymour Duncans, new wiring and pots. Plays as well as any Gibby I've played in the last 25 years, and sounds great with the Duncans. Best bang for the buck in a semi hollow guitar in it's price range.

Overall, I am happy with this guitar. It looks and sounds great after a good setup. Mine came with a poorly shaped nut, cut too low, and consequent fret buzz. I replaced the tuning machines with Grover gold locking ones, and had it professionally setup. It also had a crack in the pearl inlay at the 12th fret, but I can live with it. For the price, I am happy. I also bought a hard case for it, and have absolutely no idea why MF did not ship the guitar IN THE CASE!
