OVERVIEW

John Petrucci says he's proud of this guitar that has everyone talking.

Featuring laser-etched maple that's finished to resemble carbon fiber, the Majesty guitar boasts a super-lightweight body with unparalleled fret access, DiMarzio voicing and an ebony fretboard with the Majesty logo (for Dream Theater's original moniker) above the first fret. Music Man's Majesty guitar was a hot topic leading up to the 2014 NAMM Show.

The Majesty comes with Music Man's Game Changer technology, which is used to enhance the switching speed of the 3-way and the piezo to HH switch. True to form, the audio signal is never digitized or modeled in any way, providing a transparent analog signal path for the absolute purist.

Includes case.

"The Majesty guitar symbolizes the very reason why I am so proud to be a Music Man artist. I had the idea for this guitar a couple of years ago but it is because of their innovative spirit and dedication to the art of guitar building that it is now a reality.

I wanted to push the boundaries of sound, feel, design, ergonomics and esthetics and from day one Sterling and the Music Man engineering team were completely on board and committed to the project. It's all about asking the right questions; 'How can we make this guitar sound and look better, feel lighter and easier to play?' 'How can we make access to the upper frets even easier, make the guitar an even more versatile creative tool while designing a modern, sleek and beautifully crafted musical instrument?'

Those questions were pondered and answered by head engineer on the project, Drew Montell and tested, tried and questioned again and again by myself Sterling and Dudley over the past 2+ years. Things that we learned and loved about my previous JP signature models were carried over such as the fast neck contour, fretboard radius and stainless steel frets while new additions such as the Game Changer circuit were added to make the Majesty even more incredible.

The preamp and volume boost from the JP13 that I absolutely love was also kept onboard along with my signature DiMarzio 'Illuminator' pickups while a complete change to the body design and the incredibly creative "Maple-Carbon-Fiber" laser etched top was added as a really slick aesthetic touch.

Lastly, the mirrored 1st fret Dream Theater 'Majesty' logo and beautiful pearlescent frozen paint make the guitar look like its ready to be wielded on the battlefield. Truth is, I can't put the Majesty down! I am so grateful that I am able to collaborate with the best guitar company on the planet and so incredibly proud that together we have created what is to me, the perfect musical instrument for guitar players. I really hope you get a chance to play one and am confident that you will feel the same!"

I rarely write reviews, but in this instance, I felt compelled to do so. I received my EBMM Majesty this Saturday and the guitar is an absolute revelation. Never, in my 28 years of playing guitar, have I ever found a guitar that I would ever rate a 10 out of 10, but I certainly would in this case…

…I own a EBMM JP6, as well as a EBMM JP13. Prior to getting this guitar, I rated them an 8 and a 9 respectfully. While superbly crafted in their own right, neither of these guitars can match the ergonomics, the sleek modern looks, the tone, and the resonance of the Majesty. The Illuminator pickups are smooth and fluid, but with all the necessary gain that one would require of a modern metal guitar. The ebony fingerboard is an absolute delight - its dense and smooth, and feels like butter under your fingers.

As a special point of emphasis, this is one of the lightest, most compact guitars you'll ever find. The body is what I would describe as downright tiny! Comparatively, the Majesty's body width is 12" whereas the JP6 is 12 1/2" and the JP13 is 12 3/8". The neck is sleek and thin, the fretboard [at 17" radius] is essentially flat, but comfortable. The factory action is very low, with no buzz or rattle. Tuning stability is exceptional.

Honestly I agonized for days about the purchase of the guitar. I know that the stock photos online are absolutely horrible [the guitar does NOT photograph well] and this has led to a very polarized opinion on the aesthetics of the guitar. Let me assure you that when you're in physical proximity of this guitar it is STUNNING. You honestly get an opportunity to appreciate the level of attention that has gone into the dimension and the shaping of the instrument - something that 2D photos can't capture.

If you're on the fence trying to decide whether or not to try the Majesty, do yourself a favor…it is WELL worth the investment!

Not sure if I should flame Music Man or Musician's Friend. Guitar plays amazingly, sounds great, looks killer, but the input Jack cuts out with just a bit of side pressure. Even just bumping it lightly cuts out all sound. I returned the first guitar to have it replaced and waited for the backordered second one. Same problem. This time the original packaging g had been opened and the tags etc were missing. I'm thinking they sent me the same guitar after a brief and innefective shot at finding the fault. I'll be returning this for good this time. Will update after I call Musician's Friend AGAIN.
I will also post a video of the faulty Jack.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty Electric Guitar:

This is my first EBMM and I'm relatively happy with it as a package. Fit and finish is pretty amazing. Guitar plays really really well right from the factory and the look and feel of the instrument is ultra-pro. I dig the tonal versatility....I haven't used the coil tapping features much but use the piezo a ton. It mates really well with my Fishman Aura Spectrum. Neck is superb. Love the ebony, kind of a cross between rosewood and maple for feel. Dig the shape and ergo of the guitar itself.

My one complaint [4 stars instead of 5] is a pretty significant issue in my opinion. I cannot get the guitar to intonate perfectly. I have eight guitars in my studio right now ranging from 400-2500 and they ALL intonate better than the Majesty. My wound strings intonate perfectly but the plains require a give and take. In other words, if I am spot on at 12, my 5, 7 and 9th frets are flat. If 5,7 and 9 tune, my 12, 15 and 17 are sharp. This wouldn't be a problem if it was consistent across all 6 strings but because the issue is only prevalent on the plain strings, it causes significant tuning problems "somewhere" on the neck depending on which area you cheat. It's a real shame because it's an outstanding guitar otherwise.....it's been enough of a problem for me to put it down for extended periods of time.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty Electric Guitar:

Everything about this guitar is beautiful, but there a few features that did not feel right with my peronal preferences.

First off I have never owned a guitar that has the high E string so close to the edge of the fret board,. If you look at the guitar front on you will notice the stings are not centred in the middle of the fret board. I found this to work against my play style.

Second, I could not lower the action below 3 mil from the 12th fret without getting significant fret buzz on the bottom E string.

Apart from not being able to lower the action without it buzzing, the rest of my complaints are purely personal preference.

The guitar is clearly a work of art and the craftsmanship is space-age like.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty Electric Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for almost 20 years and I say with 100% honesty I have never played an instrument like the Majesty. I am the typical guy that goes on these websites and reads the overly positive reviews and think "this dude definitely works for Musician's Friend or something". Nope, because here I am writing this. And I have never wrote a review for a single product in my life, never was that guy. However I felt compelled to write one for this guitar. For live performances, you could use this guitar for a whole set due to its tonal variety and diversity. I have not put this guitar down since I bought it. While you play it you feel the quality that was put into it. This is no assembly line guitar. I could play this guitar and this guitar only for the rest of my life. Needless to say, GO BUY ONE RIGHT NOW !!!!!!!!!!!

I've been playing for 40 plus years. I've owned, and currently own, a lot of guitars. This is by far, not only the nicest guitar I've ever owned, but it's the finest instrument I've ever played. It's like cutting through butter with a hot knife. The action is amazing. It's so comfortable to play. Unlimited access to the 24th fret. I got the Siberian Sapphire, and it's beautiful. And the sound: awesome. The piezo pickup is a godsend. I tell you what, if you want a versatile, great sounding, easy to play guitar, look no further.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty Electric Guitar:

I bought one of these elsewhere and it was amazing. I bought one here and had fret buzz on the low E and also the issue with the jack. EBMM has a weblink "how to setup your petrucci guitar" and after a quarter turn on the nexk relief wheel the fret buzz was gone. As for the jack, I endes up returning the guitar and the new oneis perfect!!

Thin neck, and fast due to ebony fretboard and the matte fisinh on the back.
Pickups are amazing, piezo is amazing run thru my fishman loudbix acouatic amp.
The shape and weight of the guitar are amazing.
String change is a breeze with licking tuners.
The floating trem staysin tune weel.
The inlays are almost 3d as they are more of a mirror material and you can see depth in them.
The knobs and switching are in good positions and quality electrinics.
Siberian sapphire and arctic dream are both absolutley stunning in person!

I wouldnt change a thing on this guitar and cant imagine thete is a better one in existence.
It seriously has it all. I was on the fence over spending this much, but after 30 seconds I knew Id made the right call!

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty Electric Guitar:

I grabbed one of these in Copper Fire. It's visually stunning. The photos don't do it justice.

John Petrucci knows how to spec a guitar. This is my first guitar with a piezo bridge. It's not as good as an acoustic, but it'll do. The ability to mix the piezo signal with the magnetic pickups can help create some really cool tones. Throw in some reverb, chorus, and delay and the sky is the limit.

The neck is fast, yet comfortable. I can play it for hours without my hand cramping. The back of the neck is smooth and provides unfettered access up to the 24th fret. Action is great right out of the case.

The Dimarzio pickups are incredible. Note definition and articulation are off the charts. They're not a high output pickup, though. I suspect that's why the tone from them is so good. The 20 dB boost circuit is pretty cool, too. I don't think it'll replace my tubescreamer, but it's pretty useful for solo bits when playing a cleaner tone.

The tremelo if fantastic. I can dive-bomb all day long and the guitar stays in tune. Just incredible.

The EBMM Majesty is not an inexpensive guitar. There's a reason for that. Fit and finish and quality are evident throughout. It's worth every penny in my estimation. All I can say is, if you're considering one, go ahead and pull the trigger. MF's 45-day return policy makes it a no-risk purchase. If you like the guitar, which I'm sure you will, you're going to be adding one heck of a fine instrument to your arsenal. If you don't you can always return it for a refund. Just my two cents.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty Electric Guitar:

Excellent guitar in every respect, with one large caveat that others have mentioned. Tone, playability, aesthetics, and so forth are all spot-on. I seriously love this guitar, and my collection consists of high-end PRSs, custom shop Les Pauls, etc.
The caveat is an intermittent output jack issue, which other reviewers have mentioned. The output jack occasionally cuts out partially or completely, in a way that's not consistently reproducible. I initially thought it was my cable, but six months and many cables later I've confirmed that it's the guitar and not my cables. This is a serious issue, which I hope Music Man addresses, because this is otherwise a fantastic guitar. I have four Music Man guitars (All JP editions: BFR 6, BFR 7, Majesty 6-string, Majesty 7-string), and of the four, two have quality-related functional issues. It's a shame, because they're all excellent guitars in every other respect.

This is my 6th Music Man guitar, so I will preface by saying that I'm biased towards them. Unbelievable playing experience. Very light and comfortable and the neck is perfect for my hands. The neck joint is non existent, so playing in the higher register is completely effortless. Sustain is ridiculous.
