I have an Ibanez RG, a 1960 reissue strat, and an original 1970 strat. I play the strats sometimes in the studio, but for most everything I use this musicman. The fretboard is extremely fast. I have fallen in love with ernie ball. I play mine through my peavey transtube. It's wonderful.
This is one of the best guitars in its price range. I own a epiphone les paul and a american strat and I would choose this guitar over either of them. Sounds great right off the shelf. If you are looking for a guitar in this price range buy this one!
I never thought I would find an ax like this for the money. I bought it last monday, and ive playe a show with it, and even after transporting and eveything, the only problem I've had is some minimal fret buzz (easly fixed). I think that it playes very well, and it sounds good right out of the box(just a little too much bass in the middle and neck position for me). plus the "fake" steel pickgaurd is cool-looking too. I have absolutly no regrets about buying this ax, and I know from some frends who use some of the higher-end Music Man stuff that this ax will last me for a long time. I would give it a 9.5 out of 10.
The Music Man Sub1 guitar is an incredibly well crafted instrument for such a bargain price. The tone is great, the neck is sleek AND smooth, and the guitar really does stay in tune when you go ape on the whammy. I was a little doubtful (being a Floyd guy), but after giving it a good workout, the Sub1 really did stay in tune. I originally bought this guitar as a backup to my Music Man Axis. Now after jamming on it a while, it might give my old faithful a run for its money. Trust me, the Sub1 absolutely rocks!!
This guitar is great. Smooth neck. Fast action. Excellent tone. Worth every penny.
I was very excited when I saw that music man was offering the Sub1, since I could never afford an axis or petrucci model. as soon as I got this thing, I couldn't put it down. Even without a setup it played great, and after a setup it is flawless. You can beat the tremelo to death with confidence, because the tuning isn't really going anywhere. Pickups are really good and versitile. if you like the feel of a music man, you will not find a better guitar for the money.
I don't actually own this axe yet, BUT I have been courting it at G.C. for a few months now and it's by far my fav. Guitar there to play hands down! I play a punk/metal sound similar to A7X, atreyu, tsunami bomb and this guitar despite not having a mahogany body, delivers all the warmth and presence that I could ever want. I highly recommend getting one, cause I'm sure gonna!
I happened into my local guitar store just before Christmas. I stopped in to buy my son a gift certificate. Since I was there I thought I'd play a bunch of guitars that I can't really afford. I played several Les Paul's ranging in price from $900 to a little over $3000 and while I was at it I figured I'd try a PRS and some Epiphone Les Pauls and since I own an OLP which is a Music Man copy I figured I'd try a Music Man. The only Music Man they had in the store was this Sub1. Wow was I blown away! This little guitar plays nicer, stays in tune better and sounds better than any of these higher priced rigs bar none. If you can find one run don't walk to get it. You won't be sorry. Needless to say I didn't get out of the store without one either. Oh BTW I played all of those guitars with a repro Fender Bassman amp the Sub1 sounds way better than any Les Paul, the sustain will blow you away.
The only reason I gave it a nine was because the pickups. I replaced them with Dmarzio Evos, now it's cooking! This guitar turned me in to a Music Man believer and I own quite a few high end guitars.
Well worth the money. The feel is incredible and the tone is excellent.
