Huge humbucking tone, easy-play scale length, and sharp looks with a tiny price tag.

The ESP EC-50 Electric Guitar is one of the best values in a serious, hard-rocking electric guitar. The EC-50 sports a pair of ESP LH-150 pickups that generate super sustained distortion. Maple neck with rosewood fretboard on a basswood body provides great resonance while the shorter 24-3/4" scale makes note bending a breeze.

for $210 USD, i can't ask for anything more to have stood by me over the past 10 years through any style of music i wanted to play.i spent a lot of time learning the most advanced picking styles i could along with speed articulation as well as intervallic theory, modes, scales and the like for a better half of 3 years, when it was played the most at roughly 6-7hrs a day straight.this guitar is solid and if i ever lost it somehow, i'd quickly replace it.
i bought this guitar USED when i was 15 but everything on it was still stock and pretty new at $210. i'm about to be 25 in september.i have no prior knowledge from previous owner(s).everything about this guitar is well rounded to me and i've played everything from hardcore punk, death metal, alternative, nu-metal, jazz, blues, classic rock, post-rock, screamo, post-hardcore, grind, math rock, pop-punk, neo-classical metal.. all through many SS and TUBE amps over time.if you can't get a decent tone out of this, please stop playing music or just approach your instrument with some humility next time and learn to EQ. the only problems i have ever had out of this guitar has been the volume pot and a sagging pickup.after about 7 years, i replaced the stock tuners with grovers fine tuners as they always performed better than any locking ones i'd experienced and i was just ready to upgrade.
this guitar has seen extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, harsh environments where water, alcohol and even electrical tape and white out among other such things have come into contact with its surface. it has been gigged countless times and has been slammed into many things creating quite a few dents and chips all over the neck, headstock, back and front.

i once was shoved right over my halfstack live and continued playing right through without any problems.

with all of this, the guitar has never ceased to function for me and has only had very minor hangups like loose screws, fret wear, etc but i've never had to have any heavy maintenance done besides your regular setup and adjustments over time.

i have to say i did NOT baby this guitar and even practically abused it.the 8 rating seems very honest and acceptable given these circumstances.
i can't recall just how much this guitar has been through but it's still being used heavily as a backup and in another project flawlessly.

i have to say that this is a great guitar in the hands of any good guitar player but if you prefer expensive equipment to create your desired tone, then you won't like this guitar.

i've since bought an EC-401 that i've made my main guitar for my main project since it's the same style with better hardware, pickups, setup, etc and have a review on that as well.

This is definitely a Beginner's guitar. I own the one with the satin black finish, and i don't think musicians friends pictures do it justice because it looks much better in person. The neck is nice and thin, allowing easy access to higher frets. It handles gain very well, so if you are a beginning metal guitar player this may not be a bad choice, however i think there are better, and still cheap, options. The down sides to this guitar are small but plentiful. The pickups are not very good at all, being stock pickups from ESP. The neck is very delicate, and i have heard horror stories from a two different acquaintances that told me their neck snapped off when they hit it on something(which is inevitable to do at some point if you are playing shows). I have played many shows with this guitar, and hit the neck and it has stayed completely intact for me, so i do not know how credible those stories are. The bridge produces some slight buzz due to loose saddles, which could be fixed but is an annoyance. I have to say that the two worst parts about the guitar would have to be the fact that the tuners are very poor quality, and the fret work on the upper portion of the neck is poor therefore intonation can be thrown off. On the twenty first fret off mine, if i try to hit the note it sounds as the 22nd fret because of the poor craftsmanship. In addition to that there is some irreversible fret buzz, which can't be fixed with a good setup. Now, these things being said, I really do love the neck because of its 24 frets and ease of use, and for being such a cheap guitar it does handle metal and distorted tones well. I am not a metal musician and bought this guitar when i was young and not a knowledgeable musician, and would have been better off with a guitar from another company. I know it sounds as though i am slamming the guitar but i am just giving the true facts about it from a practical perspective. In conclusion, if you are a metal guitarist the EC-50 is not a bad guitar to go with, but there are better options from ltd and better options from different companies such as Jackson. If you are not a metal guitarist do not waste your time with this thing because it will do you no good.

Comments about ESP EC-50 Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for the past 2 years now. mines all white but I'm diggin the black fade. This guitar is great for multiple types of music. I play alot of Tool all the way to lamb of god, usually use my Jackson for LoG, but anyway, you get the point... great guitar. Great vibe. I cant remember but one of my knobs came un-done(i think I turned it too far without realizing) where I had it soughterd back together, not a big deal at all, that can happen to any guitar!

            Good but not great

Comments about ESP EC-50 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a decent place to start for a beginner. Seasoned (or slightly experienced players) look elsewhere.
It has a polyester painted back of the neck, so the speed of the neck is limited, especially under sweaty hands. This is not clearly disclosed in any advertising for this guitar. Also, frets 20-24 are difficult to reach or play due to its 24.75 scale. This scale should really only be 22 frets. The tummy cut is nice.
The nut clearly needs to be lowered and the slots filed, but it is serviceable as received.
For the money, you get a slightly above-average value. -- nothing more; nothing less.

            By Christopher Rico

            from Kansas City

Comments about ESP EC-50 Electric Guitar:

overall i'm really happy with this guitar. i would temper your expectations as far at the tobacco burst finnish though
All the features you could ask for at this price range. I especially love the countouring on the cutaway and and the body it really sets this guitar apart. i don't care for the LTD logo instead of ESP on the headstock.
this feels and plays great. I ordered the tobacco burst finish but the guitar i got really doesn't look like the picture, it's more of a cherry burst, it goes from dark cherry on the back and edges to orange in the center and the wood grain is not as transparent as shown in the picture. it's still a beautiful finish it just not tobacco burst in my opinion.
I love les paul style guitars and previously owned a 99 gibson les paul studio. this guitar is much more affordable but holds its own incomparison to the studio with the exception of having a bolt-on neck

I love this guitar! I bought not too long ago and haven't had a complaint! It had some pretty good strings when I got it but then I put some Elixers on and the sound improved tenfold! It's light, and very easily played. I would recommend this to anyone experienced or beginner!
Great ESP pickups, Not too heavy, Easy playability
The price on this was amazing! It is obviously worth more!

            from Colorado

Comments about ESP EC-50 Electric Guitar:

Overall, I can't say anything bad about this instrument, especially for the price! I'll get my money out of this one a dozen times over and I would buy another one tomorrow! I can't wait to save a few more bones and try a step up ESP's Ladder to one of their deluxe LTD models! I can't seem to get My mind around the idea that They make a bunch of 'em higher in quality! I CAN"T FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS ONE! ESP has won My business! 20 THUMBS UP!!! Other brands are now just a faded memory, Who Cares!
For People who are just starting out on an Electric Guitar, I would say that You are kind of LUCKY to have something like this available! Where were these 30 years ago? I wish I'd had this one back then! A lot of name brand guitars I've owned over the years now seem a little like junk by comparison! How Ironic! GO ESP!!!
24 Frets, Neck is Fast and Comfortable, Perfect Cutaway Shape, Stays in Tune nicely (Even Under Abuse)! Pickups are O.K. too!
I am thoroughly delighted! The best bang for the buck I've seen in ages! This is TOO COOL!!!
The only thing it doesn't do is shoot sparks!
Sometimes I just catch Myself staring at this insturment across the room sitting on it's stand! It's like looking at a fine car, Your eyes just can't seem to leave it alone! THEN, You pick it up and You realize why it looks so good, It flat out FEELS GOOD TOO! The neck is So Comfortable and these guitars are well balanced! The fretboard, pickups, finish, hardware,... everything is Well Made! Thank You ESP for putting a real quality instrument within reach, especially to someone on a budget! I couldn't be happier!
Who would have thought that just a Couple Hundred Bones could buy such a quality instrument?!!! These guitars are well made and just plain do it all. This is a more economy model in ESP's LTD Line-up, but I am still shocked by the quality for the price. I can only imagine how good the more deluxe ESP models are, especially in the LTD series. WOW! I feel a little guilty because My other guitars just sit around collecting dust now! All My friends who own an ESP/LTD as well ALL say the same thing! If You haven't tried out an ESP yet, Well, YOU REALLY JUST DON'T KNOW what You're missing! These instruments are NO JOKE, Seriously, They ROCK!!!

I want to Offer a Special Thanks to ***Musician's Friend*** for carrying the Entire ESP/LTD Line Up, I'll be back for more!!!

            Great Novice Guitar!

            By Alex Hulsey

            from Longview, TX

Comments about ESP EC-50 Electric Guitar:

It was a great guitar for me to use as a novice. it has such a great tone with just a simple Boss MT-2 metal zone pedal. i play metal music, so ESP is the first choice for me and this guitar really introduced me into the superb quality of ESP LTD guitars. GREAT buy i reccommend to any new to moderately skilled guitarists, especially those who want to play metal or rock music and are on a budget.
The features on this guitar are simple at best, but the stock pickups are easily the best stock pickups ive ever heard. The tone knobs breoke off the 2nd day i had it though, an easy fix i was just too lazy to attempt as the knob still worked, it just didnt have the fancy chrome cover. the small neck size was great for me because i was 14 when i got it and it was a good sized neck that was easy to play on.
Even though it is a rather low-numbered model in the EC series, this guitar really is BEAUTIFUL. i got the white finish and its very pretty. its sturdy and well made for the most part, exept that i was rough on it and didnt yet have strap locks so the strap holders came unscrewed. after many times of sliding out, it wore the grooves down and i had to drill a new hole, but it was again an easy fix, just get strap locks.
This is an overwhelmingly exeptional guitar that plays great for any style of metal or rock. its beautiful and WAY worth the price.
