I bought the older version of this guitar that came in regular black. I had to wait five months to get my hands on it, but it was well worth every moment. It's not as uncomfortable to play as it looks, even sitting down, and the neck is incredibly smooth and easy to play on. It came perfectly setup right out of the box and was ready to play with a quick change of strings. The body shape and inlay look amazing, and will leave an impression on anyone who sees your guitar. There are only two downsides to this guitar. The first is that both the neck and bridge pickups are EMG 81s. The 81 sounds amazing in the bridge position, but not so much in the neck, and neither are all that great for clean tones. I replaced the neck 81 with an EMG 60 and it sounds much better now. Until I made that modification, I had played with just the bridge pickup turned on, and it still sounded awesome. The other problem is even more minor, but less easily remedied. There are only one volume control knob and one tone control knob, meaning you can't adjust each pickup individually. It's not really a problem so much as the lack of an extra feature, and I don't really miss it anyway. All in all, this guitar is amazing. It plays wonderfully, it looks incredible, and it's priced fairly reasonably. If you're a metalhead, or just like exotic-looking guitars, I highly recommend the AX 400. Just a fair bit of warning: if it's on back order, it may take a long, long time to arrive. I was almost tempted to just give up and get another guitar, but I'm glad I stuck with this one.
I love this thing. It plays as mean as it looks, and the EMG active pickups give it a great tone and sustain. It likes to play dark power riffs, if you know what I mean... the action is fast, and the weight and shape are very manageable when playing both sitting or standing. With only two knobs (one for gain and one for volume)settings options are limited, but easy. The B-string seems to come out of tune faster than the others, but I believe with a little tightening (or tuner upgrade)it'll be fine. I've had the guitar for almost a year, and overall I'm very impressed and pleased with it.
When I received this guitar, out of the packaging it was gorgeous the finish blew my mind. I personally waited for this guitar to be available in a redish color. The transparent black cherry is phenomenal. Neck-thru design is a big plus and active EMGS sweeten the deal. Besides the shape, the tribal inlays kick. So far I have noticed no fret buzz. Clean's are crisp, distortion is teeth grinding. Both pickups sound great generally I prefer the bridge. This guitar is not built to dissapoint a real stage attention grabber. If you love metal buy this AXE!
Comes with very nice tuners, good screaming EMG pickups, the fretboard and inlay are killer, its a super fast neck, its a really awesome shred guitar, its just too bad theres no trem for divebombs and it would be perfect, but otherwise it has great sustain, great in drop tuning. Only reason i gave it a 4.5 on features is that a guitar that screams this much should have a gain booster on it, i mean its silly not to.
