OVERVIEW

Elegance and performance in one affordable axe.

Some of the most highly-regarded guitars in history have many similarities to the affordable and popular LTD EC-256FM. It features a mahogany body with a sweet flamed maple top. The 3-piece mahogany neck has a comfortable thin U profile and a rosewood fingerboard. Covered passive pickups, set-neck construction and 22XJ frets are all there without the massive price tag you’d usually expect from such a well-made single-cutaway electric guitar. The EC-256FM is at home on blues, classic rock, hard rock, progressive rock, fusion, and much more. Case sold separately.

Quite a bargain

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I bought this as a stupid deal of the day....my main guitar is a 1965 tele modified with a Dimarzio humbucker (I also have a PRS and have used a couple of SGs)....honestly, I took a shot on this just to have a guitar with block inlays for poorly lit gigs (my boomer vision deteriorating somewhat)....it looks awesome, is approximately the same weight as a Les Paul (with similar sustain etc.), fret job very nice....astonishing value for the price....will someday change out the volume pots, which, like most inexpensive guitars, are not very linear or gradual, and strangely, seem to have the front adjusting the back pickup and the middle adjusting the neck pickup, but other than that, this is a steal!...pickups are deep and rich sounding, no odd noises, stays in tune etc.... and the block inlays work great at twilight, especially since the dots on the (white)binding are easily visible. First experience with an ESP, very impressed.

Nice but no quality control

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

The guitar played decent but fretted out a bit on the A and D string near the 12th fret. Also had some bubbling at the tip of the head stock as well as some scratch marks under the finish in one spot. I know it is not an expensive guitar but I demand perfection in finish work and the buzz I could not live with.
I sent the guitar back and they were sold out so I could not get a replacement.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I have never been a fan of humbucker pickups because I find that the clarity is lost (except for my 62 SG - for some reason that was nice). For me, these pickups are only usable in the coil tapped mode. They are supper muddy to my ears. I use Fender amps.........with pedals.

The neck is very thin and comfortable. The extra jumbo frets give you the sense that you are playing on a scalloped neck.....very fast.

My guitar is the black flamed top that was the stupid deal of the day. The finish is smooth...almost plastic looking. The flame top doesn't really come through and in MY opinion looks lousy. I am in a band situation now that requires me to play with much more distortion and gain than the other bands that I play in. I was going to modify one of my strats but because of the stupid deal of the day price, I purchased this with hopes that it would fulfill my needs. This guitar is a very good guitar for the money. I have been playing for over 50 years so I am kind of set in my ways as far as what I need to hear.

Back to the details. The guitar came set up very well. Good action and intonation. It comes with D'addario strings. I think .10 gauge. The nut was to tight on the strings and the guitar was impossible to keep in tune since the strings were hanging up after bends. Since 10s are too flimsy for me tuned down to Eb standard. I re-cut the nut slots for .11 gauge strings. I use Xotic .11s and the guitar feels really nice with those strings on it. I measured the action and it was just under 1/16 of an inch at the 12th fret. No buzzing! That is just amazing that such an inexpensive guitar has such great fretwork!

I raised the action up to just under 1/8 of an inch and re-intonated it. I play some slide in the band so I like my guitars to be usable for both playing normal and with slide. All in all, I am happy with the guitar so far but will change the pickups to something with more clarity down the road.

    One heck of a deal!

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I picked this one up on the SDOTD for 219.00. Initial inspection showed the fit and finish were good, but not great. The binding was a little off and there were some marks here and there. The action was good and intonation was spot on. The fact that it was strung with the same D'Addario's that I use, is a plus. It is a heavy beast, weighing in at 9 lbs 14 oz. Playability is solid, no complaints there. Playing through a 6505 head with an EVH 2x12, on the clean channel, the pickups are a little muddy but overall tone is good and the coil tap is actually useful. Overdrive and high gain channels are it's strong points as it handles the gain well. Eventually I will swap out the tuners, nut, and pickups. Then it will be a gig worthy guitar. For the SDOTD price, you can't beat it. Even after upgrades it will still be less than 450.00. You would be hard pressed to find something better for the price.

You can play it as is, or you can change the pickups. There is nothing wrong with this guitar as is.
It is the perfect vehicle to make your sounds.
