I bought mine used for a great price.

The installed pickups are best described as weak sounding. They are G and B electronics from korea. I swapped mine for a set of duncans, pearly gates and 59. Replaced the pots and got rid of the coil tap.

I absolutly love these guitars. They have a very comfortable neck and board, very light and resonant. Minor neck adjustment, replaced the nut, crowned 2-3 frets lightly, swapped the electronics and now its been my go to guitar for several months.

Shortly after purchasing this one I bought the EC1000 model and Im equally as impressed with that one. I own fenders, gibsons, ibanez and heritage guitars to name a few and while they are all different and have different qualities, I do not judge this as cheap guitar. Inexpensive, but not cheap, and a lot of fun to play.
Love it.
The output jack broke within a week. cheap fix with a soldering iron. Otherwise, I would have rated 10.
I believe that these ESP LTD guitars are about the most bang for your buck you can get.

There are a lot of different products coming out of asia that are of ouststanding quality and I have not tried them all, but of the ones I have used or own, these are second to none.

When I received the guitar in the mail it was set up badly. So after fixing fret buzz and leveling the neck, i plugged it in. The pickups sounded awful clean, they were way too trebly. Distorted they were extremely muddy. (they were played through my VK112, great amp) That's not all though, Upon closer inspection I noticed the frets were cracked and dinged everywhere. I sent the guitar back because i do not accept such poor quality instruments. Save up for an EC-401VF or EC-1000 instead.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

For the amount features with a Mahogany body you really can't ask for more. You would not waste your time purchasing this guitar. I let a local band use it and had a hard time getting it back. The guitarist liked it so much he played the rest of the gig with it.
The features on this classic looking axe is excellent plus some. I absolutely love the finish on the gold model. The push/tap is an excellent complement to bringing out that vintage sound. I couldn't ask for more features than what it comes with, especially with the neck through body design.
There is only a couple of items that are adequate but can be upgraded quite easily. The stock pickups; they are pretty good, but me being a Michael Wilton (Queensryche) enthusiast I really appreciate the sound of the JB bridge and '56 neck pickups in my ESP guitars. The tuners do their job, but I would pay the extra money for Grover tuners.
The value is awesome and left me room to purchase the ESP EC hard case. Thanks ESP.

Sweet guitar, a thing to know though

By William Scarbrough

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great, I bought it today (awesome price for what it is). Something important, or at least to me, is that each color has a different weight. I bought the Gold Top one which I just weighed at 10 pounds, the black one weighed nothing!! and the sunburst models were somewhere in the middle. I can handle the weight through a gig, but if you play a lot of shows, then ten pounds gets to be heavy by the end...just something to keep in mind. And also there was a difference in playability and tone between the gold and black. Love the feel of this guitar. It plays just like my Gibson LP studio and the single coil switch is a sweet nicety. I do a lot of fingertapping as well and the way it came set up was perfect and it handles my weird tunings prefectly. Definitely recommend.

A Big Fan

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar about three months ago, and I can not put it down. I have owned a Les Paul, and I would choose this Guitar over a Les Paul any day.The body is lighter than expected and the contour on the back makes longer periods of play more comfortable. The neck is really smooth and playable.I have found that the quality of this guitar is far better than you usually get for the money. I have been playing in varying weather, and the guitar is not its intonation at all.The most impressive thing that I have found in the guitar is the pickups and pickup tap. I, like so many others that have reviewed this product, planned on replacing the pickups, however the pickups that come standard are pretty rocking. I will be able to invest that money in other gear.I have the black version, and I was not a big fan of the finish, but I figured it was going to end up looking that way anyway so it is really not a big deal.I would suggest this to any of my friends that were in the market.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

Hey guys, got the ESP LTD EC-256 guitar about two weeks ago. Let me say it is an awesome guitar for the price. Pushing it through my new Peavey Vyper 30 and it is sounding amazing. I wouldn't say it is better than a Les Paul like I heard someone say. If you can't afford to pay the big bucks for an LP this guitar is the right way to go. It will get the job done!! Give it a try! You want be disappointed.

Gold tops...

By Bama bluesman

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I went looking for an epiphone les paul standard and found this little monster instead. I tested the epi and th EC-256 in aged vintage gold (gold top) together and the ec just felt better. I have had it for 6 months and play it every day. she does as intended. The push pull coil splitter is useful for clean bluesy playin. I tseems really well made. The only thing u didnt like was the paint on the binding Oh well, nothing a razor blade cant remove. ;). If u want a good playin, nice sounding les paul like guitar, go for it. Rock etal blues, it will do it.

Awesome Player!

By Cuzo-DyVLu

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I have plenty of guitars and this one is one of the best if you go by value. I have two Gibson Les Pauls, one of which I purchased last year (Classic) and for the money this blows it away. This thing came ready to rock. Could use a little relief in the neck but otherwise perfect. It's amazing that ESP can have such good Quality Control in China and an American Made Gibson comes off the wall setup poorly IMO. No American's seem to take pride in their work anymore. I have 27 years of club gigging experience and find this guitar will fit right in to my guitar rotating. I won't worry as much about beating the snot out of it like the Gibsons. The neck is fast, thin and I love the frets. You can wail on the 19th fret b/c of the thickness of the guitar. Something that is hard for me on a Paul. The neck binding work and fret nubs were set nice. Can't say the same about my $2000 Classic. The pickups sound pretty good for stock but might change them out. I use Seymour Duncans in most of my gear but too early to tell on this. Haven't gigged with it yet. This is my first ESP but don't think it will be the last. My GAS is never ending. Ask the wife.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

While this instrument is well-constructed, with decent hardware and a nice, solid body, as shipped, it requires major setup. While all instruments need some setup to be at their best, the intonations were so far off that the instrument was unplayable as shipped, which really is not easy to overlook.
For the price, however, this instrument is a good value, especially if you can do the setup yourself.
As for specifics, the body is solid and somewhat heavy, which is important in transmitting decent tone to the pickups (light weight bodies tend to cause the body, and thus the pickups, to resonate in the same frequencies as the strings, somewhat diminishing the magnetic field fluctuations at the pickups).
The tuning pegs were solid and serviceable, and tight, not loose and wobbly like many cheaper instruments.
Likewise, all knobs and switches seemed solid, with tight travel.
I have not had much chance to play through amplification, but so far the instrument sounds decent, if constantly out of tune, due to the intonation issue above. This should be fixed once I finish setting up the bridge.
Aesthetically, the artificial wear patterns are a bit silly, and come off as damage to the instrument, and in the end are unnecessary cosmetic details that would have been better left to occur on their own with time. Outside of that, however, the finish was well done, and attractive.
Overall, I am satisfied with the instrument, assuming I can get the intonations under control.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

Played a few in past few years, ordered from MF, prompt delivery, arrived in good condition. ESP builds these in Viet Nam but don't let that put you off, build on this and others I've played is better than Chinese Epi Les's and ESP does the set up in U.S. prior to distribution. I've owned some high and mid-range guitars, in terms of build, playability, pups/electronics and range, it's a great value, very close to a PRS SE Singlecut but the coil tap expands it's voice.
