Overall I love ESPs as I learned what I liked as musician by playing my first guitar, and others...I've learned what I liked in guitars which is why I bought the EC 401 one after having tried an EC 1000 at a store. I was offered a two year service plan, this is separate from the warranty, I say take it if you can because it is a notable expense. So far I am really enjoying playing this guitar, it sounds so great even naked I usually don't plug in when practicing scales. This is not a Les Paul knock off by any stretch of the imagination, I can't stress that enough. This guitar is its own thing.
Now most comparable to this guitar in the line up is the EC 1000, while it doesn't have a lot of things that are standard on that model, it is still a great guitar by anyone's standards even professionals. Things like no lock in tuners may not mean much against the quality of the built and and pick ups which are the same in both models.
Even without an initial setup and playing naked with no amp this guitar sounds great, if you are able to get 4 notes straight it will make you think you sound better than you actually are. It is the quality of the wood and and built alone. Now LTDs do not have a a longer drying time to the wood than standard series, taking this under consideration; The sound you get is really high end you would not have guessed it.
Now by high end guitar standards this is isn't expensive, but by real life CURRENT economics standards, IT IS. What you have to remember is this guitar looks and plays like it is more expensive, and quite frankly it is pretty much a one time expense for your average play one club a week giging musician like me. I think it is a good alternative for pros, either way completely worth it if you ask me.

I've been a Guitarist since I was 6 years old. I'm almost 17 and I've used everything from 7,000 dolla Gibson SG to 50 Dolla First act Guitar. I Actually LOVE The look of this guitar. BUT I picked this over an SG and now I wish I never did. The pickups are too muggy and I like even EMGS. The fretboard is thick and wide but still not too bad. I own an Ibanez RG370 And thought this would be a great complementary guitar for it. I was wrong, the guitar has a tangy sound too it and it never stays completely in tune for more then 6 hours. Its a good practice guitar and plays better with low gauge strings. But for the Price I wasted my money and that's the bottom line. If you want a nice guitar thats well made then buy either an RG350 Or an RG370 Both made my Ibanez and play like gold and have great fretboards. Btw there in the 300-500 price range.

I bought this guitar for a friend but he backed out so I keep it for myself. I am glad he backed out. I have Fender,Strat & Tele GibsonLes Paul, 335 and acustic from both campanys but this Esp LTD stands up to them all you can run it throught anything and it tops it out any music on stage or in the studio. I love the ways it feel and plays and sounds. BUY THIS GUITAR YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT EVER.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-401 Electric Guitar:
No guitar for this price has a closer feel to a high end LP than this one does (in my experience.)
The EMGs sound awesome, just how you expect them to. The feel of the guitar is what you will fall in love with though. Just sweet.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-401 Electric Guitar:
Good souding guitar! I am very impressed with sound and playability however it doesnt stay in tune very well at all. Also my pickup 3 way selector doesnt always work the best. Ive owned the guitar for 11 months and already running into these small issues. The nickel hardware doesnt hold up either. If the pickup selector wasnt cutting out and it stayed in tune alittle better i would give it a 10 out of a 10.

Good buy for the price. Recommend it for all syles of play, regardless of experience.
The features on this guitar are great. The emgs sound awesome and make lead and rythm parts shine. The hardware looks and works great too.
Good quality guitar. The stock strings werent that great but I replaced them with D'Addarios and it deffinatley worked.
The value of the guitar is deffinatley worth the price. It plays smooth and the emgs make it sound amazing.

i saw the ec-1000 online for $100 more and liked it but wanted to pay a little less and i saw that my local music shop carried ESP's and had them both in stock and when i went i played both and they felt the same and sounded the same and really loved the feel of both. theyre les pauls with emgs but has a better metal sound i love it! cant put it down!

I have just recently bought this ax. I ususally play Gibsons, but wanted to change it up a bit. I was not disappointed. This thing delivers. It has an amazing sound, and plays very well. Take if from a "Gibson Through a Marshall" guy, this Guitar will not let you down. Buy it!
Comments about ESP LTD EC-401 Electric Guitar:
I recently purchased an Ibanez Artist 600 but exchanged it for a black ESP LTD EC-401. The overall feel of the EC-401 is better than the Ibanez especially the neck. The Ibanez has better sustain hands down but comes at a cost of weight. The sustain on the EC was just right (Goldie Locks Style) The build quality of the EC was better than the Ibanez, the picks are superior without question. The Tuners on the Ibanez were better but what tuners arn't better than standard Grover tuners. I already have a set of Sperzel Locking tuners on there way. The finish on the EC was perfect and flawless. The only complaint I have about the EC would be a slight buzzing in the first few frets but nothing a setup can't fix which should be done on every guitar. I did mine myself and it's fine now. This guitar is considerably lighter than the Ibanez and very comfortable to play, not like a traditional Les Paul replica. To summarize, I highly recomend this guitar or brand to anyone looking for a quality guitar they can grow into at an affordable price.
