I have owned this guitar for over 3 years now and seriously it was one of the best investments I have ever made. It has one of the smoothest actions I have ever played on, and with its emg pick ups it has one of the clearest sounds, with no feed back what so ever. I play a lot of shows and I generally choose this guitar to play on, over my RR3 Jackson and my Black Beauty. If there was one thing I could change on it how ever, it would be that it had a Floyd Rose Bridge, that would make this guitar truly perfect.
I got this guitar in May 2006, and yes like the other reveiws have said it was on back order but it only took a few weeks to get to me. When I got it from the moment I pulled it out of the box, "I was in love." This guitar is light weight, comes with the best of the best and is clearly made for serious metal guitarist. This guitar sounds as good as it looks. I own a Jackson Dinky with dual EMG HZ4's and was not sure what to expect when I plugged this guitar with active EMG 81's into my Crate 120 212 DSP Combo. I plugged this guitar in and, "Oh my !#%*!!!, I coulnd't put it down. This is the crunchiest, fastest, smoothest guitar I have ever played. I couldn't put it down for hours and could remember thinking, "I will never play another guitar again and knew why I have seen so many famous world class guitarist playing it on stage and not their own signature models. It was in tune when I pulled it out of the box and has stayed that way despite my abuse on the strings. Here's the deal, "Get this guitar" and you will not regret it.
I have heard great things about this guitar, and I'm definitely considering picking my own up. Problem is nobody local carries it, my only un-answered question is how much does the sucker weigh? Post a review if you have the answer for me:)
This is a great guitar for mid-level players to Experts. It has a very heavy sound and you are able to pull off some pretty amazing stuff. Its great for rythemist and lead guitarists. If you like heavy metal this is the guitar for you. and by the way YES EMG-81 pickups do make a difference. They freakin roar through my Mesa Boogie full stack. By it now if your a true metalhead. I play everything from Nickleback to Slayer on this thing. GOOD JOB ESP
Oh my god. This is the best guitar I have played in my entire life. I owned a B.C. Rich Platinum Series Beast before hand, and this blows the beast out of the water. If you have enough money to spend on a quality B.C. Rich guitar, then you have to spend less money to get this, and it is many times better in quality, tone, and the emg pickups are perfect for metal and pinch harmonics. But, yes. Pick this guitar up immediately if you have the money. Sooo worth it.
I have owned this guitar for about 4 years now and it is my favorite. I have always been a fan of the f-series and when I saw this come out I knew I had to have it. I love the design of the guitar and features such as emg pickups, neck and string thru, and the tribal inlays. This guitar sounds awesome no matter what style I play. I also love that it is a very simple guitar no floyd rose to mess with or a bunch of knobs to figure out. If you are going to purchase a guitar or thinking about buying this one, DON'T THINK just buy it you won't go wrong.
I don't have to say much because this guitar says it all for itself. It truly is my dream guitar manifested in reality. The action, the sound, the tone, the style, the quality. It's all top notch. I waited for 2 months to get one, and it was worth it. This is a guitar I don't want to put down after I pick it up. Did I mention it's a dream come true?
Out of the box not only was it in tune but the action was set perfect, two things I didn?t expect considering it crossed 5 states during shipment. Playing this guitar is a dream and the pickups are outstanding! I?m not sure what strings come with the guitar (I need to call and find out) but I want a ton more of them, they're perfect. Only negative thing I can think of (and I?m trying to think of something) is possibly the shape, although unique and beautiful, the bottom horn gets uncomfortable on the thigh after sitting and playing for extended periods of time, so if you're a standing player it wont matter. Overall, you will love this guitar!
This guitar is so amazing! This, like other ESP and BC Rich guitars, can be uncomfortable to play while sitting, but you'll be standing and shredding too much with this thing anyway!
Had this for almost a year, it's my favorite guitar. So much in fact I'm not sure whether I should play it all the time or leave it alone cuz I don't want to hurt it. Perfect for metal, the inlays are beautiful and the see-thru black finish is great. I love the EMG's. I use this for my solos because it's so easy to fly up and down the fretboard on this guitar. Comfortable sitting or standing, there's not a thing wrong with this guitar.
Love the guitar. sweet to play, sweet to look at. nice action. Pickups could be tweaked, but overall a good pick.
With both pickups on gives a nice clean tone. This was a nice surprise. The neck is slick and fast. The neck pocket is very comfortable for shredding in the upper registers. The EMG 81's are a nice match for the maple, and mahogany body. The lead pickup screams. While the neck pickup has a nice liquid quality for solos, yet enough chunk for darker rhythm work. I play through a Marshall TSL 100 w/ greenback 1960A CAB and a THD Hotplate YMMV. The fit and finish are first rate. Very impressive. Both visually, and sonically.
this is one of the best guitars i had ever played its neck is lightening fst i had elixer polyweb strings on there and that was the smoothest neck to go up and down on great pick-ups didn't really like the shape that much but one of the best guitars you could ever buy
This guitar is simply amazing. I have never played anything that was perfect from the moment I picked it up. Tone is great, action is great and it just sounds incredible. It comes with GHS 10 - 46 strings and they were in tune when I got it. I also own a Jackson Solist with an EMG 81 and 85. I will probably just put it back in its case for a while hehe. The ESP F-400FM is that nice. After playing this guitar, I am actually thinking about springing for the 30th Anniversary Edition as well.
This is one of my favorite guitars that I have ever played. If you are looking for something that can deliver, look no further, this is the one!
This guitar rocks! It has a good rock sound. I do not like the way the pickups are wired. If you play metal or hard rock this guitar is perfect for you but if you ever need a warm clean sound you can't get it with this guitar. This guitar also looks wicked awesome for you hard core rockers out there. This Guitar is worth buying but if you want to change anything be ready to work a lot.
I bought this guitar without having played it, and it turned out well. It is light, has a fast neck and fretboard, and the active 81's are awesome. The active EMG array is definately the best part about the guitar, and the Earvana nut seems to work well with intonation and sound quality. The one problem is the compensated nut housing is to thing to allow some 12 gauge strings, so it needs to be filed a little wider. Overall, the F-400 is a great deal and a good guitar. Now if ESP only made a seven string...
This thing is a pretty sweet axe. The only thing I dont like about it is that the action was set to high when I got it. I could have 2 tone knobs but I'm not too picky. Good guitar overall.
This is the best guitar I have apart from my Jackson WRMG. I wish I could give this a 4.9 cuz of the dual EMG 81s. This doesn't have a floyd but I don't need it for the C standard tuning I play.
I was going to get a PRS Paul Allender guitar, but was referred that the ESP would be better suited for what I wanted to use the guitar. I went to the music shop a few miles from where I lived and tried several ESP guitars like the Viper 400, EC 500, MH 1000, and a H 1001, but I fell for the F400. I like the way it is made, the fretboard is smooth at the edges and has a thin neck, it is light, the tuning pegs keep the guitar in tune, and the active EMG 81's give a metal sound that I craved. Also, the wicked design, sweet color, and cool tribal design were just icing on the cake. Too bad this model doesn't have a trembolo, but my Fender Stat does, so it is no big deal. The F-400 is a great sounding quality guitar, it is a must have for any headbanger of any age. I can't seem to put it down.
