The perfect tool for a little sonic mayhem.

Kirk Hammett is the lead guitarist for Metallica and the first inductee into Guitar World's Hall of Fame. His ESP guitar designs are immensely popular, and now ESP extends those awesome features to a junior electric guitar that is perfect for travel or for a young metal head just starting out. With a light basswood body, 3/4 scale, extra thin flat maple neck and rosewood fretboard with 22 extra jumbo frets, you can keep on shredding on the tour bus or in your room for a long time. The EMG-ESP LH-301 humbuckers make it all come through loud and clear. Black nickel hardware and skull & bones inlays reveal Kirk Hammett's sense of style, too.

Ok, there you have it. It is a well made little guitar and has a nice sound, seems well built, looks great too! But be forewarned, it is very small, it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. I also have a Squier Mini-Strat, and that seems like a full sized guitar compared to the Kirk Hammett Jr. But if you need a great little travel guitar, the Kirk Hammett Jr. seems to fit the bill. It has a lot better quality components than the Squier Mini--particularly the tuners. The skull inlays are well done, and overall its a mean looking machine. I would just caution you that you consider what you want a 3/4 size for? I think the question is whether the extra $150 for the Hammett vs. the Squier mini is worth it to you. I replaced the stock strings on the Mini with some Elixrs and it now seems to hold tune better. Bottom line though, both guitars are a good solution for a travelin' guitarist. All of this applies if you are buying for a kid as well. Its just a price vs. quality consideration. If you kid is a budding shredder, go for the Hammett Jr. If its just a starter, the Squier Mini is the way to go.

I bought this guitar to save space while travelling. It looks good, the pickups sound great but this thing will NOT stay in tune. I had it set up by a tech, changed strings, and changed tunings but it won't stay in tune for five minutes. I also think the jumbo frets were a bad idea on a short scale guitar. I am either going to sell it or gut it for the pickups which I love, But a guitar that won't stay in tune is a baseball bat. Be warned - you'll get what you pay for.

    Update on KH JR

Comments about ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Junior Electric Guitar:

I was impressed with this guitar out of the box, but I just replaced the strings with Ernie Ball Skinny Top/Heavy Bottoms which appear to be the exact same gauge that was on it before, and man did that make a big difference. It went from sounding decent, to sounding excellent. As a general rule, anytime you get a new guitar, change the strings. You never know the age or quality of what they put on them at the factory.

    Sincerely Impressed

Comments about ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Junior Electric Guitar:

I just bought this for my 5 year old son to start teaching him the basics, he always wants to try on my full size, but just can't wrap his hands around the neck, much less hold the guitar. I had been looking at squiers and others, but the quality just was not there. I found this while looking at ESP's sight one night and read the reviews and decided to give it a chance. I received it and opened the box, it is sooo little. When I took it out, the quality was immediately apparent. Then neck and frets looked and felt great. I pulled the strings real snug on the tuners before tuning it up and then played it through my VOX Valvetronix and I am very happy with the tone and playability. I can see myself playing with it also around the house, it really is nice. I bought this as a child's first guitar and if that is what you are looking for, you will not find a better guitar. As far as a travel guitar, I think it fits that role nicely too, and when he grows into a full size guitar, he will have a nice travel guitar. Buy it, it really is nice...

Big sound for a little guitar

Comments about ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Junior Electric Guitar:

This guitar plays very well. The pickups sound great. You would never know that it is not a full-sized guitar when listening to it through an amp. I was surprised by the small size of the guitar, but that is one of its greatest features and the reason I bought it. It is quite comfortable to play in tight spaces. A full-sized guitar sound at half the price.

    A Good Little Axe

    By Stratcat From Rescue

Comments about ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Junior Electric Guitar:

I've had this for almost a year now and I must say that I've been satisfied for the most part. I had to change the strings and do a complete set up before I was happy with the tuning and intonation. It's very small and travels well. It's as tough as a tank and looks cool. I've met some other travelling guitarists and they've looked at it with envy. I have strong hands and thick finger tips so I'm still having difficulty with the small upper frets and bends are challenging at times, but it beats hauling my Strat all over the place. The pick-ups give out a meaty sound through my studio amp. On the road I run it through a Vox AC-30 Amplug and it sounds fine.

Comments about ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Junior Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a few years for a travel guitar as I do travel alot and for extended periods sometimes and leaving the guitars at home just sucks. Today I stumbled on this guitar, and after staring at it for 30 minutes, and then fiddling with it for another 45, I walked away with it! It is by far the best built, best quality travel sized guitar by far. Well done ESP/LTD!

Comments about ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Junior Electric Guitar:

I'm on the road a lot, and wanted to be able to take along a guitar that was easy to carry, sounded great, and looked cool. I found just that with this ESP Kirk Hammett Junior. Its built so well, the paint job is deep and looks amazing. The pick-ups sound awesome through my Pandora. For an amazingly low price, you get a lot of guitar here. Not to mention some great compliments when people see it.......
