Comments about ESP LTD M-330R Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because I wanted a cheap-ish but solid guitar for rock/metal that would allow me to change my tuning quickly (my main guitar is an origianl Floyd Rose). When I saw there was a special Christmas deal on this guitar, I looked at the woods and hardware and thought it looked good enough on paper to try.

My first ESP ltd and I was pleasantly surprised! First inspection upon receiving it showed that it was essentially perfect. The action was good, no fret buzz, no globs of glue (some was visable sandwhiched between the fretboard and neck in some places, but who cares) nor any problems with the wood or paint. I took off the plate covering the electronics and everything looks well soldered and in good shape. Everything sounded fine when plugged in. The neck is fast which is a plus for my taste and the guitar feels solid even though it's kind of thin (that's mahogany for you), but it's still kind of light which is also nice. I've been playing it for over a month now and no problems.

The only subjective negative is that it sounds kind of chirpy and trebly when put on the distortion channels of my Mesa Boogie RoadKing when compared to my other guitars. From what I read, some people said that's the problem with these stock pickups. In my opinion that's the only thing holding it back from being the perfect cheap guitar for my taste. So when I change out the pickups it may become my #2 ax.

All in all if you are looking for a very respectable guitar for metal or rock on the cheap, buy this! When you're ready to drop another hundred or two, get the pickups you want and you're set!

Comments about ESP LTD M-330R Electric Guitar:

I got mine with a promo code which saved me a good bit of money, so for the price I'm very happy. The build is very solid, the neck has a great feel and I like the fact it has a very simple lay out of one 3 way switch and a volume knob. I always control my tone with my amp and they used a Les Paul style 3 way which makes changing the pickups easy. The pickups themselves sound great clean, but when added over drive or heavy distortion(especially considering I'm running through a Peavey 5150 2x12 combo) these pickups sound extremely weak. It's sounds like they took their passive design, made it active but didn't put a preamp to the pickups which would explain why they're quite yet have no punch. I also checked out their assembly job. The fret work is nearly flawless, the intonation is dead on and the build is very solid, but I had a little dirt at the bottom of the neck which I cleaned using some rubbing alcohol and I checked out the solder job and it had a few cold joints. I'm going to replace the pickup with a Seymour Duncan TB-6 and an SH-2. That will not only make this guitar sound better, but those pickups will work great with a mahogany body and it will be unique considering that ESP has nothing in this price range with that build that has passive pickups. Once that stuff is done this will be a guitar that I'd feel proud to gig with. I already lowered the action and it plays great, it's a little heavy, but considering it's so well balanced I couldn't see that being an issue.

It's pretty much the Kirk Hammett signiture guitar. This baby has everything a metal guitarist could want or need. Check out addisonrattlehead on youtube for a sound test. i couldn't get the attachment to work so i had to do it this way.

Comments about ESP LTD M-330R Electric Guitar:

This guitar is flat-out great. The way I like to think of it's place in the ESP lineup is that it is the highest quality without EMG pickups. But when you have ESP pickups that are so great, you don't really need them! This thing plays like a dream and you can get some great sounds out of it. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a guitar.
