The LTD V-500 is pretty much the replacement for the Dave Mustaine signature series, as he left ESP for Dean Guitars in 2006. The V-500 is the same shape as the DV-200/DV8, and is almost identical in terms of looks. However, many of the components are different from its predecessor. First, the V-500 utilses two EMG 81s (active pickups) instead of the Seymour Duncans, which are passive, and also the neck is a Set-Thru neck, not Neck through. Plays very well, and comes with an Earvana compensated nut for tuning perfection. Mine needed bridge and intonation adjustment when I received it through the mail.
I've owned this guitar for a few months now and it has been amazing. It's built like a tank, sound is amazing...I wasnt to sure about the dual 81 actives but it gave a really nice tone. Distorted it sounds amazing, and suprisingly really nice clean as well. This is my second ESP and they have yet to let me down. If you are thinking about buying this guitar..do it. It could easily cost a lot more!
This guitar is amazing! I'm buying one as soon as I get the money. I'm selling my Dean Dime O Flame to get one of these babies. I mean, come on, it's awsome! Dual EMG 81 pups give you that awsome heavy sound that is great for stuff like Metallica, Bullet for my Valentine, etc. Loaded with 24 frets, grover tuners, and the V shape. ESP will never let you down.
I researched for so long before I spent my money on my second axe. The pickup config isn't very versatile b/c it has two 81, but that's where my issues end. I love the 81 in the bridge, love the wood, love the playability of the neck and upper fret access. My hands aren't very big but I can hit every single note on this 24 fret beast. If you're hesitating but you love V's just do it. I guarantee you will love the guitar. Every time I look at this thing I pick it up and play it. Great price for the materials, great company and overall a great product.
This guitar could easily cost a lot more. of course it's perfect for metal with the emg's, but I got some surprisingly clear clean tones from them. The earvana nut is awesome, and of course the grover tuners keep it in tune. I'm definitely getting one, and if you want a great guitar for realativly low cost then you should too.
It took me about half a year for me to get the guitar do to problems with esp, but it was well worth the wait. it plays really well, and the pickups sound amazingly heavy played through a marshall. The neck is very fast, and the body shape is surprisingly comfortable. Changing the strings is a bit tricky because of the string-thru-body, and its hard to reach all the way up to the 24th fret, but other than that, this guitar is a must buy, this guitar could easily be priced at over $1000, so its definitely worth the price.
