An ode to the guitars made famous by Eddie Van Halen when he was blowing minds on and off stage.

Other premium features include a single volume control knob, single-ply black pickguard (on the white and black striped model only), bar string retainer and Floyd Rose locking nut, EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo with EVH D-Tuna, EVH die-cast tuners, chrome hardware, vintage-style strap buttons and EVH neck plate.

After 3 1/2 months of waiting for this guitar, I finally received it yesterday. Out of the box, the EVH Striped Series (Red, White, Black) guitar had a great setup and straight neck. The finish is exactly what I had hoped for (no flaws), and I was very satisfied.

I was also impressed by the fretwork. Frets are beveled and polished - much nicer than I had expected, and far better than on my old Charvel EVH Art Series (I also own the Black/Yellow Charvel Art Series guitar.) I experienced no fret buzz and don't have any notes fretting out when I over-bend, which I experience often with Fender Stratocasters in the upper 17th + frets on the 1st and 2nd string. Overall, this is a great guitar.

Although the Musician's Friend description does not state that the neck is the same as a Wolfgang with a different headstock, I believe this to be the case. The neck does have a great feel. It is very different from the Charvel EVH Art Series - not as "thick" and a bit flatter. I like both, but my personal preference is the Charvel Art Series. I also prefer the pickup in the Charvel Art Series over the Wolfgang. They are definitely NOT the same pickup. The Wolfgang pickup seems a bit too bright to me, at least in this guitar. Definitely not going to get the classic "brown sound" with this pickup, but you will get 5150 era and beyond. It sounds a lot like a Duncan Custom Custom, with a 500K pot in a basswood guitar. If I planned on using this guitar to gig, I would change the volume pot to a 250K pot to cut back on the high mids. This is a personal preference, but I think that the pickup is too bright for this guitar's maple neck/basswood body.

Floyd and D-tuna work perfectly, although the D-tuna is very close to the surface of the guitar body and is in danger of scratching the finish when being used - exercise caution when using it!

Finally, the picture on Musician's Friend site indicates no "EVH" logo on the headstock. This is not the case. There is an EVH logo on the headstock of the Red/White/Black model as well as the others. This was not a surprise to me, but it is worth mentioning for those that might not be expecting a logo on this model.

I gave it 4 out of 5 stars due to the pickup and D-tuna issues, mentioned above.

I bought this guitar as more of a collector's item than for regular use. It would not be my go-to guitar for gigging, other than for the effect, if I were to play a VH song. All in all, this is a very solid guitar and I am very satisfied with my purchase. A great value for the price! I only wish that there was an optional EVH hardshell case that you could purchase with it.

The paint job on the body is mint. Nice light weight body. The hardware seem's to be good quality.
The BAD - Fret end's you could shave with, The Bridge is not Stabilized. Tightening the bridge springs so the bridge tilt's back and touches' the body is not what they mean. You almost can't use the D-Tuna .

From EVH web site: http://www.dtuna.com/setup.php

1. Stabilize Bridge:
If your bridge is flush mounted against the body of your guitar (does not pull up) you can skip this step.
If your bridge "floats," then it must be stabilized. There are two different ways to do this. The easiest way is to "block" the bridge so it doesn't pull up. Use a shim or wedge on the block of the bridge in the tremolo cavity. Make it snug so that the tremolo base plate is level with the body and will not pull back.

The other option to stabilize and still be able to "pull up" on the bar is to install a tremolo stabilizer or stopper. There are many options for this, please consult D-Tuna customer service for a personalized solution to meet YOUR needs best.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

This is the first review I have ever written for a product.Great guitar for the money.
I've been playing for 35 years and have owned and played Gibsons, Fenders, High End Charvels, and
and lately my trusty PRS McCarty Rosewood.
The music I play is mainly Rock and Metal.
I have been reading about this guitar since it first came out and wanted to give it time to receive some
solid reviews before I pulled the trigger and bought one.
All I can say is Wow! What great job they did on this guitar in this price range.
The neck has the same feel of the Charvel necks from the eighties and it plays like
a dream. I will probably change the pickup to one with more definition but the one it
    ships with is fine.
As far as the Dtuna goes, I have found if you tune the guitar to drop D before you lock
the nut with the Dtuna pulled out then lock it down and fine tune, the Dtuna works flawlessly.

This thing is just a blast to play. The unfinished hand-oil rubbed finish on the neck feels very smooth and the jumbo frets are just awesome.A lot of people are saying it's just a one trick pony.I beg to differ because all I have to do is roll back the "tone" knob and get a nice, crisp, clean tone out of this thing. If you love tapping, then hold on to your hat because it's a breeze to do some rapid-fire,"eruption" like tapping on here. You really can't beat this for the money and yes,the paint job is KILLER!!

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

Okay I am going to say that all in all this is a great guitar. If you like the sound of EVH's sound in the early 80's this is a great guitar. The feel of the neck and the pickups sound great. Obviously the look of this guitar is AMAZING! The only thing I would personally change in this guitar is that I would change the body wood to something less soft than Basswood. You have a Floyd Rose right against the body with a hollow cavity underneath. This is a recipe for disaster with cracks and chipping. I know incidents where someone could accidentally slip and snap the Floyd back and damage their guitar in the process from what I was told. Other than the Basswood; I would say this is a beast of a guitar, and it has great quality; it also has the Fender warranty behind it, and Fender is a great company to work with!

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

I play Blackstar amps set to full Marshall. Since this isn't a multi stage pre amp I had to adjust. The electronics that comes with this guitar does not contain a capacitor because it's designed for multi stage pre amps. The guitar is just weak with out the right amp. Most of the articles you read states it doesn't matter. Well it does. Paralleling the capacitor in line adds volume and character. The articles are thinking about the circuit backwards. If you want the old school sound such as the first album you will need several things. For the plexi sound you will also need analog delay and chorus. This just adds more character to the rig. Some people think that's a phaser on but it's just an analog chorus except for the string raking. Now back to the capacitor. As for myself, I keep it and the tone knob in the cavity tucked away. Before that it was just weaker than my LP with the same set up. So this isn't theory speaking but trial and error. If you have a muti stage pre amp, then you should be in good shape for hours of enjoyment. As for companies going to basswood, well it is what it is. The guitar is a little brighter but still a blast to play.

This is a reply to my other post. After changing the pick up to a Gibson 500T and also a Gibson volume pot, it's so close I could sleep with it. The pot was acting like a Fender meant for increased mids and highs. I guess due to Trademarks some things you just have to learn for yourself. The basswood isn't really a problem, the tone is there and I love it! ( in all tunings and just not 430)

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

Well I'll be straight for you. The guitars EVH used in the studio may not be what he used on stage. I can heard the difference between a ceramic hum bucker and alnico by the mud and thinness. If you are expecting Jamie's Crying you will be disappointed. Everything is do able but the pick up won't cut it. The alnico doesn't work well on the amp but it does a decent job on Guitar Rig with 6L6's or so. It's a bright pick up similar to a 59 and the height on the thing is just too close. You really need to lower a pick up to get out of the treble range. If you put in a hot ceramic be sure to get it as low as possible and rock on. Other than the pick up, you have something to mod to your taste. I don't fight alnico anymore, too much of a battle just to get mud. Go ceramic and it will surely help it.

Just a follow up. My tech set this up and it's very nice! Action is better, Floyd stays in tune and the d tuna does its job. Yes it close to the body so I still use the whammy to lift and then pull the d tuna out. It's a great axe for the price and if it came with a case I'd go 5 stars.

This guitar is awesome! Lightweight, super easy to slide chord fingerings up and down the fretboard, and looks great! I was afraid that it wouldn't have good tone for playing chords, but in my opinion, the tone is as good or better than the Taylor T5z electric-acoustic I recently got. Absolutely pleased with this guitar. By the way, you can't use the drop-D AND the tremolo at the same time - you have to have the bridge hard mounted if you want to use the D-tuna because otherwise it changes the note by about a half step rather than a whole step and has trouble locking in or out. Another bad thing is that when you try to play muted with your right hand muffling the strings close to the bridge, it's super easy to flick the volume knob way up or down. Tremolo works great and is a lot of fun!

This is a very nice looking axe. I have the white with black stripes. I love the neck! Very nice feel and easy to play. The jumbo frets are really nice and I can easy work up high on the neck. I would spend the money on the more expensive USA built model for the neck alone. The D tuna is a little rough on this as it does rest close to the body. Use the whammy and then engage it. Needs some fine timing after you switch. Normally anything made outside the USA gets hardware and a pick up after I buy it but this pick up does sound good and I easily get the EVH sound with my Marshall. Overall, nice guitar, built decent and fun to play. I am just using it at home, practices, etc. It does not replace my top shelf guitars for live performances. EVERY DECENT GUITAR SHOULD COME WITH A HARD SHELL CASE! This comes with NOTHING.

I had ordered a Schecter Hellraiser first, but after playing it for a week or so, I just didn't like it. It was my first guitar with active pickups, and I wasn't that impressed, honestly. So, back it went, and this was my second choice. It's the same configuration as my main electric, which is a vintage Kramer, so this type of guitar suits my playing very well. Sure, it's not as versatile as other guitars with multiple pickups and configurations, but for the music I play (classic rock), it's perfect. The feel of the neck is very good, and it plays and sounds great! One thing to note is that the Floyd Rose is configured to rest on the body (NOT floating), so out of the box, you can only dive-bomb with the tremelo. This is my preferred configuration, which I didn't know prior to ordering it, so it's nice that I don't have to hassle with adjusting it.
