OVERVIEW

An ode to the guitars made famous by Eddie Van Halen when he was blowing minds on and off stage.

Underneath the recognizable artwork are basswood Stratocaster-style bodies with quartersawn maple necks, a hand-rubbed oil finish and thumbwheel truss rod adjustment, compound-radius maple fingerboard (12"-16") with 22 jumbo frets and black dot inlays, plus a single ferocious direct-mount Wolfgang humbucking pickup.

Other premium features include a single volume control knob, single-ply black pickguard (on the white and black striped model only), bar string retainer and Floyd Rose locking nut, EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo with EVH D-Tuna, EVH die-cast tuners, chrome hardware, vintage-style strap buttons and EVH neck plate.

I play Blackstar amps set to full Marshall. Since this isn't a multi stage pre amp I had to adjust. The electronics that comes with this guitar does not contain a capacitor because it's designed for multi stage pre amps. The guitar is just weak with out the right amp. Most of the articles you read states it doesn't matter. Well it does. Paralleling the capacitor in line adds volume and character. The articles are thinking about the circuit backwards. If you want the old school sound such as the first album you will need several things. For the plexi sound you will also need analog delay and chorus. This just adds more character to the rig. Some people think that's a phaser on but it's just an analog chorus except for the string raking. Now back to the capacitor. As for myself, I keep it and the tone knob in the cavity tucked away. Before that it was just weaker than my LP with the same set up. So this isn't theory speaking but trial and error. If you have a muti stage pre amp, then you should be in good shape for hours of enjoyment. As for companies going to basswood, well it is what it is. The guitar is a little brighter but still a blast to play.

The paint job on the body is mint. Nice light weight body. The hardware seem's to be good quality.
The BAD - Fret end's you could shave with, The Bridge is not Stabilized. Tightening the bridge springs so the bridge tilt's back and touches' the body is not what they mean. You almost can't use the D-Tuna .

From EVH web site: http://www.dtuna.com/setup.php

1. Stabilize Bridge:
If your bridge is flush mounted against the body of your guitar (does not pull up) you can skip this step.
If your bridge "floats," then it must be stabilized. There are two different ways to do this. The easiest way is to "block" the bridge so it doesn't pull up. Use a shim or wedge on the block of the bridge in the tremolo cavity. Make it snug so that the tremolo base plate is level with the body and will not pull back.

The other option to stabilize and still be able to "pull up" on the bar is to install a tremolo stabilizer or stopper. There are many options for this, please consult D-Tuna customer service for a personalized solution to meet YOUR needs best.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

After 3 1/2 months of waiting for this guitar, I finally received it yesterday. Out of the box, the EVH Striped Series (Red, White, Black) guitar had a great setup and straight neck. The finish is exactly what I had hoped for (no flaws), and I was very satisfied.

I was also impressed by the fretwork. Frets are beveled and polished - much nicer than I had expected, and far better than on my old Charvel EVH Art Series (I also own the Black/Yellow Charvel Art Series guitar.) I experienced no fret buzz and don't have any notes fretting out when I over-bend, which I experience often with Fender Stratocasters in the upper 17th + frets on the 1st and 2nd string. Overall, this is a great guitar.

Although the Musician's Friend description does not state that the neck is the same as a Wolfgang with a different headstock, I believe this to be the case. The neck does have a great feel. It is very different from the Charvel EVH Art Series - not as "thick" and a bit flatter. I like both, but my personal preference is the Charvel Art Series. I also prefer the pickup in the Charvel Art Series over the Wolfgang. They are definitely NOT the same pickup. The Wolfgang pickup seems a bit too bright to me, at least in this guitar. Definitely not going to get the classic "brown sound" with this pickup, but you will get 5150 era and beyond. It sounds a lot like a Duncan Custom Custom, with a 500K pot in a basswood guitar. If I planned on using this guitar to gig, I would change the volume pot to a 250K pot to cut back on the high mids. This is a personal preference, but I think that the pickup is too bright for this guitar's maple neck/basswood body.

Floyd and D-tuna work perfectly, although the D-tuna is very close to the surface of the guitar body and is in danger of scratching the finish when being used - exercise caution when using it!

Finally, the picture on Musician's Friend site indicates no "EVH" logo on the headstock. This is not the case. There is an EVH logo on the headstock of the Red/White/Black model as well as the others. This was not a surprise to me, but it is worth mentioning for those that might not be expecting a logo on this model.

I gave it 4 out of 5 stars due to the pickup and D-tuna issues, mentioned above.

I bought this guitar as more of a collector's item than for regular use. It would not be my go-to guitar for gigging, other than for the effect, if I were to play a VH song. All in all, this is a very solid guitar and I am very satisfied with my purchase. A great value for the price! I only wish that there was an optional EVH hardshell case that you could purchase with it.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

I received the first EVH Striped guitar a week or two ago. Completely set up poorly/improperly. Guitar could NOT stay in tune even with Floyd Rose engaged even after flexing strings. De-Tuner? In: Perfect E. Out (detuned) - C#. Its supposed to be 1 step only. Returned that guitar...received replacement. Was working great for 5 days - then the pick-up completely died out of the blue. Extremely disappointing! Plus, the D-Tuner is set-up ANGLED TOWARDS THE BODY - you cannot use the microtuners on the bridge, if you do, you'll lower the DTuna INTO the body scratching up the paint. I own a wolfgang EVH and, while not expecting the same level of quality, was expecting at least FUNCTIONALITY. I know the guitar is cool looking - but seriously, think twice...maybe take some more time and save up for the Wolfgang.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

After 5 months, the electronics quit. Like a piece of junk. PERIOD. Love the guitar, but that's WRONG. I've only played it at home, it's never been played out. For 900 bones, I got robbed.

I've bought some pieces of junk from Musician's Friend for beater practice guitars and they still work and serve their purpose.

This one died after 5 months.

I've got two Les Pauls over 20 years old, worth thousands, that I've played on stage for years and they're always reliable.

The problem with this EVH "art" might be an easy fix, but y'know what, I'm a player not a tech, and I shouldn't have to fix ANYTHING on brand new Eddie Van Halen endorsed guitar.

    Beyond disappointed!

I bought it to get a feel for Eddie's set up. But NOW I think it's all just a SCAM.

    Selling art instead of integrity.

This guitar is beautiful.... It just came in the mail, and is everything I hoped for. I haven't had a chance to play it yet because I'm having a professional gloss finish put on the neck... What good is a guitar with an unfinished neck? A couple of years of shredding with it unfinished will warp the neck, not to mention get sweat stains all over it making it look like doo doo.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

Well, I was very skeptical purchasing this made in Mexico guitar. I was so wrong. As others have stated the guitars craftsmanship and components are top notch. It came setup right out of the box!!! To me the pickups sound brown and less bright than the EVH wolfgang usa. I believe these are the same pickups, but the wood is making a minor difference. I also think Fender has tweaked the EVH wolfgang pickups to make them less bright on the new models. I own a 2013 EVH wolfgang USA and had a 2011 EVH Wolfgang usa. One thing to mention is that they have decked the tremolos and this causes them not to sit level. I don't see it as a problem, but I just wanted to mention it. I think maybe the neck cavity was not cut deep enough. Anyways, you can't go wrong with this guitar. Don't second guess your purchase of this guitar. It's well worth it. It's an evh fans must have item. I really want to buy every color and just hang them on the wall, but they are too good to use them as art!

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar just last week, and it's definitley a player. It had one small issue in the lock nut that was easily fixed. This guitar has a great feel and is very easy to play. It sounds great and was setup well right out of the box. You can dive bomb all day long, make it scream and it comes back still perfectly in tune. You use the d-tuner for some drop tuning songs and it is perfectly in tune, then slam it back in place and it is still perfectly in tune. The intonation is perfect, I can play anywhere even with my heavy fingers, where it is perfectly in tune and sounds great.

I have a tube amp with the gain all the way up, so this guitar screams, then I just back down the volume a little bit and it cleans up beautifully. My Gibson Les Paul doesn't even cleanup as well as this Wolfgang Pickup does when you back down on the volume. I get that really nice brown sound tone, just as you would expect from an EVH Striped Series guitar. All I have to say is... That is a fantastic purchase and one of the best guitars I have purchased in a long time.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

In 1978 Edward Van Halen revolutionized the way that rock guitars were built and played. Edward was one of the main reasons I stayed with the guitar for all of these years. I have been playing for over 35 years and have almost 40 guitars.
The EVH striped series is no exception to Edwards attention to detail. I purchased the white with black striped version at first for the paint job and the price. It is made in Mexico but do not let that fool you. It is a fender product and they have some great instruments come from south of the border.
Now for the guitar. A basswood body, one "tone" knob, one direct mount Wolfgang pickup, a EVH (german) floyd rose. Maple fretboard with easy access truss rod. The neck has a nice flat radius for legato, vibrato, chromatic and penatonic scale maneuvers. It is a compound radius fretboard meaning it gradually gets flatter as you reach the 12th fret. It chords very easily.
Straight out of the box (no case with this guitar) it was set up nice. Neck was straight. The strings were slack for shipping, but after one tuning it has stayed in tune through some very hard whammy bar acrobatics. This is new to me. I have an art series Charvel (EVH) and a Wolfgang special. I had to do a lot of work on both to get them to stay intonated. This guitar is a real suprise.
The pickup really goes good with this basswood body, which I am sure is not a "select" wood at this price. No matter. You can back off of the volume for a nice clean tone on your clean channel, and get full on 80s distortion with a nice overdrive.
The neck feels nice and full without being cumbersome. It is fast. It feels different from any of the other EVH products I own. I really like the shape and hope they are consistent.
The finish (graphic) is superb. I have this guitar hanging on my wall across from a picture of Ed from the 70s holding his old homeade axe. I think they got it pretty darn authentic.
It has a stratocaster cable jack only on this color version to stay authentic. If you don't use a flat curved jack, the floyd bar will hit your cable (click click click). Just be aware of this when looking at this version.
The floyd is flat mount and not recessed. I have read complaints about high action. The action on mine is correct for a floyd rose trem and Ed always flat mounts his floyds.
The wolfgang pickup is hotter than usual so I don't advise sitting too close to your amp because it will feed back. I found that the guitar is very well balanced standing or sitting and is a comfortable wieght(8 to 9 lbs). I jammed with it today for about 30 minutes and was really impressed with the sound and the overall feel.
I have some very expensive guitars, and this one is just as much fun to play. It looks cool, it sounds good, and it plays good.
I think that Ed wanted to make something nice and affordable at the same time, and he did it with this instrument. Thank you Edward for having these made, and thank you Musicians Friend for selling me such wonderful instruments for the last 20 years.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

I read the reviews. I took into consideration that this was a Fender(I have only found 30 year old fenders worth playing)I am a long time EVH fan. I received my red, white and black striped guitar took it out of the box and checked it over. I found a small paint chip behind the bridge. Okay? I tuned the guitar plugged it into my 5150 II half stacked waited for the tubes to warm up.... and there it was the sound, feel and ease of playing a guitar that I felt I had been playing for years. I could not believe that this was a fender. I prefer an unfinished neck and the feel was like my Peavey Wolfgang that I've had since they came out. I have not played any other guitar since I got this one. Okay the paint chip I could have sent this guitar back to Musicians Friend and they would have sent me another guitar but I prefer things a little dinged up. That paint chip adds character and I am a character so it fine by me.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

Love this guitar. Got one for christmas.
Now I can get the vh sound! And it's so choice! If you have the means, I highly suggest you pick one up. I'm so into the 80's again, and this guitar has me spending my time relearning classics like you really got me, somebody get me a doctor, dance the night away... It makes it so much easier to get those sounds, and it's such an awesome superstrat- the first real superstrat! It's so lightweight, I can play all day and night. My other strat is in it's case- too heavy.
Love tapping and dive bombing all day, and getting that horse whinny, and breaking glass harmonics- wow! Fun! It's what vh was all about and it looks so cool.
Best guitar I got in a while, my favorite toy, makes me want to play all the time!

This guitar has made me come up with some new interesting sounds and combinations.. Yes I was worried about ordering a EVH guitar but I have 2 and they both play like butter.. The neh sayers really must have had a bad batch or are busting on the EVH name.. I would highly recommend this guitar because it is what King Edward is all about.. Oh and as for the neck feeling dirty because your bodies oils sink in and make it play better.. Sorry but it does not play slow it plays just the way it is supposed too.. Enjoy it if you buy it :)

This is a beautiful guitar. Feels awesome in my hands. Sounds great, pick up has a nice bright bite to it. Paint is beautiful, satin back neck is great.

However, my first guitar I received it was electronically corrupt. The volume pot was bad, had a mid point flat spot and spun 360 degrees. Second one so far is pretty sweet. Both of these had a pretty lame set up, floating Floyd was not parallel at all. I think they used the wrong screw on my D-Tuna too for the sleeve flops around in D tuning. Lots of low E fret buzz that I have not corrected yet...

Other wise, it is great. MF was fantastic on the return process too. MF rocks!!

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

Ordered the original style from the 1st album (white paint with black stripes and black pick guard). Ordered early and got a low serial number, nice! Overall this could be a five star review however there are a couple of issues. The neck is quarter sawn which is good, but mine has a darker area which indicates a knot in the wood which may cause some minor problems down the road. The fret wires are sharp and had to be filed and beveled. Also, out of the box the action was not radiused to the neck, and measured a 7/64" height at the 12th fret-there's no way to get a smooth legato without adjustments. Problem is, EVH uses a flat mounted trem and you have to remove the 10,000th's shim from underneath and then re-radius. If you live in the midwest or south, wait until the dead of winter to fully crown and dress the frets because humidity from the wood curing will 'swell' the fretwires out and you won't be a happy shredder.

Aside from that and the adjustments I made, this guitar plays really good. The unfinished neck is in character with EVH's playing, it allows it to breathe and wear-in nicely with age, and no sticky paint to slow your fast runs or smother the wood's aging process. Pickups sound really good through my vintage tube Randall stacks, and the larger Strat-style headstock add to the sustain and attack. Worth the money aside from the issues mentioned, but nothing that can't be tweaked to suit the end user.

All around a really cool axe. I bought 2 black & White and Black & yellow. Setups were identical out of the box. action was a little high but nothing to complain about. pups well they definatly do the VH thing with in reason anyway. a bit bright but not shrill. a little sloppy in the low end yet articulate at the same time. kinda like "Eddie" LOL.There is an airiness to this guitar which is due to the Bass wood body that's kinda kool.
All the components of this guitar are well made from the tuners to the Floyd Rose. The neck fits tightly in a deep tennoned neck pocket and the neck is a nice modern "C" shape comfortable to play for hours on end. the fret work was better than expected.
So the reality is if you love Van Halen and want a piece of history these are GREAT guitars for the price. Even if you hangem on the wall as art. Though they are players. Bottom line is as with all Mexican made guitars play 20 and ya might find 1 that's a keeper. My black and yellow really seems to have some mojo to it and could be played as a main axe and record. Not that the white and black is much different but it doesn't quite have the it factor. but just jamming on either guitar and looking down to see those stripes puts a smile on the face of the most discriminating tone chaser.
Oh yeah the pup cleans up nicely too just roll back the volume and strum away. FYI I've played both through an Bogner Exctacy 101B and Various vintage Marshalls.
All I can say is stop debating Just order it you won't be dispointed

Have dozens of instruments and over 40 guitars I've collected over the years and this guitar is a great addition and well worth the wait and every cent. The UPS guy actually asked me to give him a sample jam right out of the box. Perfect! Plus it was a good idea to make sure the guitar was tip top before he left. He flipped out when I told him what was in the box and when he saw it, WOW!! Beats spending 25K on the limited edition custom made replica fo the real Frankenstien. No complaints here! Thanks Musician's Friend!

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

Plays great right out of the box. D-Tuna is spot on. The unfinished neck feels great; just like my Charvel Transgold's. I plan to wear the frets out on this! Fun guitar.
